There's a niche footstool setup that I like to use when I'm playing him. Whenever you can get your opponent trapped in your up b as you're going for ledge in a straight vertical motion, as soon as you grab ledge, ledge drop and footstool. The top players of my area get dooped by it, I first learned the setup as DK, because I'm a DK main, and turns out it works on the plant too lol.

As someone with a plant secondary, I feel that even though plant is slow, I don’t think that means lack of range The best way I’d describe my plants playstyle is a slow approach that is deadly when your in the space that plant dominates. Plant is really good at denying the opponent space using Neutral B and Side B. And Down B is a really good bait to try to get the opponent to approach. Back air is really good as “mini-Ivysaur Up air”. I think plant has potential to be a lower-mid tier but as of right now I don’t think many see his strengths

Plant has a lot of power in specific moves, but I think the main thing the character is missing is just good normals. They don't at all fit the character's speed, which isn't near good enough to make up for their lack of range. Additionally, their frame data is also not amazing, with their safest move on shield being Uair at -6. Plant also doesn't have any good burst options, and doesn't exactly have a way to reliably zone their opponents either, All of this means that in order to enforce their gameplan, Plant has to take risks than other characters. And if you're up against characters with better range, speed, or frame data - which is basically almost the entire cast - that risk is only compounded. At the same time, a ton of characters get a lot more reward for when they do get their openings. Combine all of that, and the only real things Plant has going for them are good ledge-trapping, good kill power in the right situations, and being heavy while still maintaining decent speed. Even though their damage output can be amazing, the situations in which you get that reward are too few, while characters such as Sheik can hit you with one of their many safe moves and get the same if not greater reward. Or you're Kazuya. Or Min-Min.

As a plant main, my biggest goal for Smash by this point is to show the potential of Piranha Plant. I understand why he is low tier, but you cannot tell me that he is worse than Lucario. That character is abysmal to play and only has a counter and his aura come back mechanic that allow him to be in C tier. Piranha Plant is in mid D tier and I really think these two characters should easily swap places on the tier list.

@@UmbraStarWolf I have 4 years of maining Daisy that I put away to start this series. My Daisy is worse now than she was when I mained her but I'm a better player overall because of this challenge. If I wanted to pick her up again it would take less than a week to get back to speed on her, and less than a month to do even better than I did in the past.

If anyone here is familiar with Clash Royale, piranha plant is like Mega Knight. It does amazing against lower skilled players but is easily countered the higher ranked you get.

I agree with this somewhat. I think that Piranha Plant has a lot more depth than one card in a game. While Piranha Plant has gimmicks that can be countered, I think that Piranha Plant has a lot more depth to his metagame and it just needs to develop more. Lucky has been consistently doing well with Piranha Plant this year and is showing that there's potential to this character.

Who on earth is regarding Plant as the worst character when Gannon exists? Lets see, Plant is a fighter with some of the strongest zoning tools in the game between down B and side B, a kill throw, and some of the best edge guarding in the roster. Contrast this with a glass cannon heavy with no neutral tools or mobility, and one of the most exploitable recoveries in the game. Seriously, the lowest I've seen people put Plant is in 6th or 7th place. Most people recognize that Plants kit has some potency.

Here's the secret about tier lists they don't really matter. It might matter at top level play but ultimate is so balanced that I'm not even sure about that these days.

Well I feel like he's more a bad character tied to ptooey, an incredibly stupid and strong move. Like little Mac's smash attacks. They are ridiculously good and little Mac's only good tools

That happened to me but I stopped playing and started to know myself, in the end I chose the Villager, even if he is not meta he is a character that I enjoy using him and that is what makes me happy haha ❤
