Long Lake, Port Orchard Wa, has the biggest lillypad patch Ive ever seen. So I took my frog lure out see if the bass are just as big.

I fished for like 8 hours that day.. while editing the video, I realized I might have a problem, cause about 4 hours of it was just me squishing the frog

Newish to fishing. I've only gone a couple of times as an adult. How do you not get tangled and snagged on the lilypads? I remember when i was little, my dad told me to stay away from them because I'd get caught up on them. He always casted near them, but I've always thought of it like casting directly into a tree, thinking it'd be snag city so i avoid them. Its always made sense that the fish would be there, but how do you get a line out and not hook into the lillies?

You wouldn’t want to throw a light line trout setup in the pads but with a heavy rod, braided line and strong hooks, you uproot the vegetation before you break off. The frog is designed for this but there are ways to make other lures “weedless” too. You can Texas rig soft plastics on an EWG hook and use heavy line and weight to punch through and fish the bottom in these areas. All about having the right gear for the conditions.

My particular setup is specific for fishing for bass in lily pads. My rod is a med- heavy, so it's strong enough to handle ripping out some lily pads if a get wrapped up in them. I also use 45 pound braid, which is strong enough to handle mostly anything. But my lure is where it gets really cool. The frog lure floats on top of the water, and stays above the lily pads at all times. Bass will see it up there and make a pretty violent attack. Once they do, you're supposed to wait for a couple seconds to ensure they have it in their mouth, then set the hook. Do it too soon and the frog will come flying at you, too late and the bass may start to swallow it (and that's never good... nearly impossible to retrieve) Definitely my favorite way of fishing so far! Come on out to Lake Fred in So Jersey and witness a sea of lily pads that nearly covers it's L = 2,400' x W = 750' surface, nearly 37 acres, during the Spring and Summer months!
