FYI - This video was not made to “romanticize” student debt. The reality of my situation is what it is and I’m choosing to view it in a positive light. That being said, I made this video to also encourage others who have debt to realize that (1) they’re not alone (2) you are capable of paying your loans back (3) you are worth investing in.
I’m grateful to God and my parents that I got the opportunity to pursue my dream of going to law school and eventually becoming a lawyer. and although I wish I did not have to incur debt, it is not the end of the world!❤️

As a lawyer you need to figure out solutions; this video nails it. Bro, for $200k you can be a lawyer and it is a career that makes millions. Doctors accrue the same debt and make bank, too. I agree that taking on debt is normal. I mean, put $50 down on a traditional $250k traditional mortgage is ok; yet that house may not double in value for 10-20yrs. But paying $200k for school that can make millions is a bad idea? I see law school as a business transaction: pay us 200K, and you can make millions. Buy a house for $200k and it will triple in 30 years? The former is a better value and investment.

Especially the lawyers earing $22.00 per hour doing "temporary document review jobs". Those folks make money faster than you can count it. . SMH. . you have been watching too many TV shows about lawyers if you honestly believe what you said in your post. . .and there is no comparison whatsoever between Doctors and Lawyers. It is profoundly difficult to even get into one of America's medical schools, whereas anyone with a pulse and the ability to sign some student loan documents can get into a mid or low-ranked law school.

@@pep590 I'm not disputing that, or saying anything about her looks. Just pointing out that borrowing big to go to a low-ranked law school in a state with ELEVEN FREAKING LAW SCHOOLS is not wise. Does anyone on this thread honestly believe that there are enough jobs in Florida to employ 11 graduating classes of new lawyers every year? And before you say go to another state to practice, there are ten law schools in Pennsylvania, 8 in Virginia, and so on. I run into unemployed, and severely underemployed lawyers all the time. . .

@@criminallaw9573lmao right the original comment is delusional. The students who have a shot at the highest paying opportunities are concentrated at the top schools, and most of them aren’t paying sticker price either. Even still, most leave those jobs after a few years bc they don’t find the work-life balance sustainable and that usually comes with a pay cut. Three years of forgone income + 300k debt (which will be more like >400k after interest payments) is not a sound financial investment when there are plenty of fields that pay well without this cost. Go to law school to become a lawyer but don’t expect to get rich from it lol

Your channel has inspired me with advancing my career and focusing on maintaining a more positive attitude. I love your advice, inspiration and your perspective on the day to day routines. Your words hit hard about in five years what will still be nagging at me that I have not done and I would regret, that is going back to school for my bachelors. I would love to be a high end paralegal and would love any advice you have in regards to pursuing a bachelors degree. Would you say it could help me in the long run for career advancement and raises? I would love your opinion on a degree in social science or criminal justice. Love your videos so much, congratulations on law school!!

Life is so short to not do what you've always dreamt of doing!!!! If other people have done it, why cant you! I do think a bachelors degree gives you a leg up in any career, specifically when it comes to negotiating salary, but it is by no means a requirement. If you do decide to do your bachelors, you should look up what degree is the best for people who aspire to reach high-end salaries in the paralegal field. Criminal justice sounds good primarily if you were interested in doing criminal law. If not, then I honestly don't know which one would be better. I personally would choose the one that I was most interested in! Also, thank you so much for your positivity and support!! I expected to get hate on the size of my loan, but I am really happy to read all of these sweet messages! Good luck on your journey!

Why did you choose University of Miami in particular if they did not give you any scholarships? Did you apply to other schools or external scholarships? Genuine questions as I only want to commit to law school if I get a significant scholarship. Reason being that I want to go into immigration law and that field is not lucrative enough to pay off student loans.
@thelegaldiaries
@thelegaldiaries 9 ай бұрын
Hey, that’s a really logical reason for wanting to choose specifically on scholarships. I know people who take the same route as you! It’s smart. I personally really wanted to attend Miami and felt it was my best option even while considering scholarships at other schools. The decision is honestly going to be different for everyone, but I didn’t want money to ever be the reason I didn’t get the education I felt was the best

There are 11 law schools in Florida, and the one you appear to be enrolled in is not well ranked. Rest assured, there are NOT jobs for over 1,100 new JD's every year in Florida (or any state). So I'm not sure that going $300,000 in debt makes sense, when literally finding a job practicing law--at any salary--will, in all likelihood, be very difficult for you and most of the students in your class upon graduation. Honestly, even if you had a full scholarship, you would probably still just waste 3Y of your life, attending law school in a state with 10 other law schools makes no sense whatsoever, we do not need 100 new lawyers a month. .
@thelegaldiaries

Honestly there’s some solid advice in here. I made the best decision I could for what I knew at the time and I know that I will be okay!
@criminallaw9573
@criminallaw9573 4 ай бұрын
@@thelegaldiaries Alright. So honestly, how can you say that borrowing 100K a year to go to a low-ranked law school in a state with ELEVEN LAW SCHOOLS makes sense? You do understand that one state does not need 1,100 or more new lawyers, each year, perhaps as many as 100 per month, right?
@criminallaw9573
@criminallaw9573 3 ай бұрын
@Vulcan-fo5gj Respectfully, it is a fact that there are 11 ABA-accredited law schools in Florida. The legal job market might support most graduates of one law school each year--not 11. Most of those JD's will never get a full-time job practicing law, iin their lives, and they won't pay off their student loans either.
@criminallaw9573
@criminallaw9573 3 ай бұрын
@Vulcan-fo5gj OK. . . respectfully, you are making a couple of bad assumptions there. First of all the demand for lawyers in Florida is so weak that licensed attorneys work for as little as $19,00 per hour doing "temporary document review jobs". That's true in pretty much every state, document review jobs paying from 19-26 per hour, because there are so many desperate, unemployed lawyers willing to work for pennies.
@criminallaw9573
@criminallaw9573 3 ай бұрын
You then seem to imply that getting a JD has some intrinsic value on the job market for doing other things than practicing law--it doesn't. In fact, many employers consider a JD to be a "Scarlet letter" and lawyers who can't find work often take it off their resume.
