Amtrak train yard tour in Los Angeles. Train spotting up close and personal. 100 year old train turn table in action & inside view of train locomotive.
I had the opportunity to visit a Los Angeles train yard. I got the chance to climb into several train locomotives & train cars. Was lucky to see the turn table in action. The turn table has been restored and is approximately 105 years old.

@@Trainman2015 the cars are being used on the Pacific surfliner trains
@jaanfo3874
@jaanfo3874 3 жыл бұрын
@@Trainman2015 You probably know by now. When the Siemens cars come online in Northern California then all the second generation bilevel cars in use up there will be transferred to the Pacific Surfliners to help spread out the fleet and expand service throughout the state (Yes, they have “Surfliner” cars in California paint up there). During the pandemic, with fewer cars needed throughout the state, the state returned a number of cars being leased from Amtrak for the state services and started the process of redistributing the 2nd generation CA-owned bilevels in anticipation of the Siemens cars being in service by the end of the pandemic. Unfortunately, the Siemens cars have had a major setback and now the state is short on equipment, which has halted the equipment redistribution and is slowing the post-pandemic service recovery (There is not enough equipment available to return to pre-pandemic service levels now that the 25-ish leased Amtrak cars were returned to Amtrak). The current situation will sustain for a while until the Siemens cars finally enter service, then you’ll see more of those northern CA bilevels come down south.

It’s restored, not rebuilt. The operator shack, wood deck, motor, and bearings were replaced. The frame was sand blasted, restored, and repainted.

Not sure...some go to the train garages and others are just dead ends where the turn the cars around. One interesting fact is they turn all the cars around every so often to even out. the ware on the wheels....
