Some other blocks I’ve seen Fhwip use in stone detailing is light grey wool, andesite, and acacia wood. He has quite a few videos where he’s detailing stone, if you were still looking for more ways to detail stone

Lore idea for the duplication machine: "Once a powerfull entity, strived to understand every nook and kranny of the world surrounding them. In our modern language we might call it a godlike being. After a span of time, that is not even fathomable for us mortals, it had fully explored the world touched by daylight. In an attempt to go beyond the boundries, it shattered space itself and simultaniously it's own body. The left overs are the endportals, that allow us to cross into the imaginative realm of this entity as it never realy made it to a place beyond. The void in it's imagination is so painfull to it, that it sucks in every block touching what is left of it. To it's anger, non of the blocks can fill the void, since they are nothing but conjured by it's mind. That explain, why they exist on both sides of the crossingpoint i.e the endportal. The being exists half in reality half in it's imaginative reality and brave explorers travel into it's realm, to retrieve the created blocks into the real world " I know it is a Bit complex but it would be a possible explanation. (Pls excuse any spelling mistakes, my IPad is in german and misscorrects a lot of english)

I have been watching a lot of Minecraft content/youtubers through the years and from the hundreds only a few had planned content with storytelling or lore in mind, even then they didn't do it right or just quit midway, it might be a bit early to see if you will keep it up with everything till the end but, if you do I guess you will be Top 3 in my MCCC (minecraft content creators) list.
