One benefit of journaling is that when you get older (like me!), you can look back on things from many years ago. I started journaling in 1982, during my freshman year of high school, and I got into the habit of writing just what happened the day before in a paper journal, including whatever feelings I had about it. And now I can look back 40+ years and see all of that, and I honestly wouldn't have remembered half of it without that record.

I still have a journal from when I was about 14 years old. I'm now almost twice that age and even though I often feel like I haven't changed at all it's wild to see how much I've grown in over a decade. Especially thinking about things that really upset me at the time which I can't even remember today.

I went to a movie on my own the first time when I was 19 & I loved it but it wasn't until I became a parent that I truly embraced my love for eating out & seeing a movie on my own. You don't need to worry about anyone else's schedule, if there's awkward scenes in the movie you see, anyone else's food preferences or a timeline. I'll get to a restaurant hours before my movie starts with a book or headphones & just slowly enjoy my meal, if the restaurant doesn't need my table I'll ask for the bill right away so the server doesn't need to worry about me. I'll just ask them to check in every 30 min or so for a refill or to order dessert but other than that they can ignore me. I bring my blanket to the theater & choose a showing that won't be so busy so I can spread out be comfortable without bothering anyone then hit a coffee shop after my movie for some tea & more reading before heading home.

@@renasiegel honestly I only do this a couple times a year always when my son is with his dad for the weekend & every time I go I think "why don't I do this more often". Well there's Mom guilt, spending money eating out & on a movie just for me, it's a little spendy so definitely can't do it every month, and I don't think it would be such a treat if I did it all the time but it is absolute bliss. I always wait until there's a movie I really really want to see & it's been in theaters for weeks so it's not mobbed.

I'm someone who enjoys their own company, but until recently I NEVER went out to a restaurant by myself. The first time I did I realised how amazing it is!! There's no discussion on where to go, what everyone wants to eat etc. I got to order whatever I wanted and read my book the entire time it was 👌

i’ve never been really good at journaling, i would start a journal and than stop it. One thing that’s been working for me is making a list through out the day of things that impacted me (even the dumb shit) and than writing as if it was a book

I think when it comes to journaling, writing down your feelings or what you went through in the day, really depends on you as a person. Like I personally don’t like dumping my feelings and keeping them to myself, I feel much better telling people that are close to me. So yes it’s some sort of : I like it, or I don’t like it, situation 👍

Great video! So good to see you stepping out and trying new things. And your cooking is really coming along, so that's definitely something to be proud of! 👏 Journalling is something I do on and off, so I'm yet to get into doing it regularly. But the key word is 'habit', so I guess I should just try to do it more often. Building habits definitely seem better than resolutions, and you'll improve in various ways for sure! 👍

Well done, Taz! Might I suggest a method I use to further my cooking skills is simple I will find an ingredient be it protein, veg, condiment anything goes. Bring it home and look up all the uses for it, how to cook/prepare it and then put my personal spin on it's use. Solo outings, dinning, movies and such are great. You don't have to obligation of polite small talk, you can focus your personal experience. Keep up the good work.

I have also been struggling with journaling for years! Like you say, it's something that theoretically is great but practically it just doesn't work for me. And I used to feel the same way about going out by myself but after moving to London from Spain by myself I have had to learn to just go, because if I had to wait for someone to want to come with me to do stuff I wouldn't get out of the house! Where is that ice skating ring? I love ice skating but haven't found a place to go that isn't fake ice. BTW, if you want to soften your tortilla you can put it in the microwave for a minute next to a glass of water! It also works for hard bread and next day pizza!

Great work at cooking more for yourself!! I've seen some sites/apps that suggest meals you can make with the ingredients you have. When I was growing up we had stuff for cooking, but also some snacks and stuff, good for lunch. And you don't need to call it "solo dating" or whatever, just "going out" and having fun... By yeself... It -is-- completely normal, especially for people with hectic schedules

The solo date/travelling thing is my life goal. I have complex mental health problems and therefore am reliant on live in carers for most of my time. Ido work, travel, have hobbies and friends etc but this nearly always has to be with other people or only a couple of hours alone. So I love this so much!
