Thanks everyone for the supportive comments. I see more and more scams now on FB and it's not just cars. People will DM you about something they want to buy from you and ask you to confirm via a txt to your mobile so watch out for those too.

You can google the image to see if its used else where. I bet they haven't taken their own pictures. What FB should be doing is checking on one of the car price trackers, throwing up any cars that are way off what they should be and other flags. It's not difficult.

You'd think that even the gullible wouldn't fall for a way way way too good to be true price for this vehicle in mint condition with that mileage, especially with current hyper inflated prices and especially with Toyotas. They might as well be posting mint 10-20 year old Lamborghini's under 100k for $100 because they need a "quick sale", and people would fall for it.

@@aconformist1 Can't always assume it's a scam; although it is good to be skeptical in this economy/these situations. My friend's grandma sold her seemingly mint condition 2008 Honda Civic for $500 a few weeks ago and I feel like a dumbass for not taking her up on it in the current car market. She was fairly legit and super up front on why she was selling it for so low too. She said she took it to a mechanic and they said it'd need at least $1200 worth of work and since she already had a car to replace it and is on a fixed income; she no longer saw it as viable to fix. She said she'd rather pass it onto someone who needs it and is willing to put in the work. I don't have a car mind you, but can borrow from my family like I've been so I passed. Didn't want to potentially get stuck with a lemon or a money pit of perpetual repairs if it turned out to be more work that what she knew. But yeah; there are legitimate people selling cars for the low. You just gotta actually meet someone reputable.

@@aconformist1 That's quite an exaggeration about the lambo analogy you gave there, but realistically, there are some gems out there that would be worthwhile to look into. Ofc this could be me coping about the fact that scammers are ubiquitous, but if there isn't any serious red flags on the seller's account or anything out of the ordinary, why not look into the post? Edit: I made the comment before watching the entire video, and now i see where you are coming from, at least if you are referring to the gullible who would take the deal outside of FB Marketplace...

Just for kicks, I once played along with the scammer. Allegedly, the vehicle was already wrapped up for shipping and the seller was on a base in So. Cal. When the scammer said the name of the base, I said, “Perfect! My brother is there too so he can go see vehicle and deliver money in person.” Credit cleats after that.

I suspect that the tech companies could easily get rid of most of the scams if they wanted to, but they don't. I don't use Facebook, but I've reported obvious scammers on Ebay and nothing was done. Google and Facebook both allow scammers to buy advertisements. They're probably making a calculation and concluding and letting the scammers do their thing will result in greater profits for them. KZfaq is owned by Google, so Google should either delete or shadowban my comment because if users are allowed to communicate ideas like these, it's really not good for their business. I'd be surprised if they actually let us write back and forth.

We are getting the same scams over here in england & no matter how many times i report them to fb & block the profile/s more & more pop up. Fb do not do anything to stop this even if they know it's a scam, but a new law has just been passed in the commons that sites like fb can be prosecuted & fined severely if they allow these scams to operate without checking, so maybe in time they will have to check these bogus scams & stop them automatically, but the worse part about it is they are using innocent peoples fb accounts to rob people of their hard earned cash. If i know it's a scam just by reading the ad then SURELY fb must know, but just turn a blind eye.

Great video! It's sad to see people actually fall for these scams. A good rule of thumb is if a vehicle is significantly less than the market value for the region, it is either because it is damaged goods such as a recinstructed title, etc., or it's a blatant scam. If I can't test drive it on the highway, it's a no-go for me. It's also wise to bring along a creeper and flashlight, if they don't let you roll under the car, they're probably hiding some sort of defect.

Thank you for this video. Anyone who knows anything about cars/trucks, especially a Toyota Tacoma, knows these trucks are VERY valuable and will never be sold for around $1000 unless it is in very poor condition. The market understands the value of these trucks and a good condition one in the mid 2000s can still sell for over $10,000 if it has under 100k miles.

Vins dont match of course. Personally I wont deal with an account that is new but yes scammers definetly using other people's accounts to sell stuff. Marketplace is worse than Craigslist now. I used to trust Marketplace alot more because you can go through yhe seller's profile but as you pointed out, cant even do that now. I usually use Kijiji, Ive had alot less hassles on there. Being retired I would spend the evening reporting these ads. They all would have the same basic description, just serviced 3 days ago, lol. I would go to the page which is basically a hacked FB page and there would be 100 of the same ad going to all parts of the US. I would usually report about 30 of each ad then give up. Then they started claiming that their messenger wouldn't work to contact the scammer by an email account. For whatever reason I haven't seen any of these scammers on market place in several weeks. But knowing now that facebook sent out a memo to their staff to allow these scam market ads to continue as long as Facebook was getting paid they are probably just shielding these scammers. There has to be insiders working in Facebook helping these people

The plates were always covered and the floor always had paper mats from being just detailed. I'd play their game that the car was in a locker, needed money to get it out, medical bills, but failed to realize that here in Canada its free health care. Then after playing a while I'd thank them for their IP and the next knock on the door would be the Sheriff as Canada and the US just passed a cooperation bill.

I would really like a budget to track these people down and prosecute them - they rely on the lack of accountability of online platforms and the anonymous nature of setting up an online presence. The police are not interested, banks only marginally. The whole thing is frankly a cesspool of chancers operating wherever their activities have little or no consequences to them. Nothing will be done to fix this because there's no money in it and in fact others make money on gift certificate purchases, transaction fees etc

I have seen this before. Lots of scammers lately. I have learned that if it looks fishy, don't do it. I also report fishy posts. You can often tell if they are scammers.

I ran across a scam where the widow was selling all of her husband’s items at a really reduced price. What’s up with that? Scammers have gotten better at home they attract but they all fail in the same way. They miss important key details that prove they aren’t in the same country as you. In America you’ll never be asked by a real person to contact someone on WhatsApp, Skype, email, anything but a message to or a call is a scam

Great video. I'm guessing these scams happen regularly because I follow these scam posters and notice after few weeks they delete their account. So perhaps it works. Should be a red flag when they ask to contact on a different platform besides Facebook. I know this might be a hated idea but Facebook should add some verification or method checking to these posts. Maybe some basic credentials someway verify sale. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for going thru all of the emails and showing everyone. I always knew these scams were there, never bothered to follow up with them. So is there a policy or process for Facebook, ebay, or gmail that you can report these accounts, or no?

A 2008 Acura depending on the mileage is a 2500-3000 car with 100-150k miles with 200k miles ore more 1000-1500 depending on condition if all power options work rust frame rot in PA you will have frame rot tires int and these older Honda/Acura Automatics are kind of weak they do have transmission problems around 100k to 185k miles. I got my 2004 Buick Park Avenue Ultra off of Craigslist and off the original owner that listed of with a full description of the price of 3500.00 2 1/2 years ago. He even listed his name and telephone number and took 65 pics of the car. Its been very reliable and that Buick 3800 Series V-6 and every part is always available at the local parts store or used at a salvage yard. Some of these might have a branded title such as Mileage exceeds Mechanical Limits, Mileage exceeds Mechanical Limits Odometer Tampering box Mileage exceeds Mechanical Limits Odometer Rollback box , Rebuilt/Flood, Rebuilt/reconstructed means previous vehicle was totaled by insurance company totaled out vehicle repairs exceeded ACV(Actual cash Value) ,Mileage Exempt , Taxi/Police Use,Abandoned are a few.

I almost fell for this, they have a way 🙈 first it was the good deal on FB. Then I messaged them. They said it was a listing for their neighbor and gave me their email. I believed it. So I emailed her and got the same exact email as the closing Toyota Camry email. It was also a Toyota Camry for $1500. I replied being supportive and saddened that their husband had passed. Then the next email they sent seemed like a different personality almost very dull. That’s when I found something off. It seemed robotic. I tried looking for the car on eBay but nothing. I came to KZfaq and found this video. Thank God 🙏🏻 now I know.

It's also so easy to spot the fakes often they post many many of the exact same post, it's so annoying to go through them. They also kinda make the REAL cars look less appealing. How has Facebook not done anything about this when they sensor so much content already???

It's not always this game with me in a 2005 with 71000 mi for 1500 if they lost the title that's what he used car dealership would buy it off of the owner with no title but other supporting documents. Because I a couple weeks ago decided to sell a 2014 Nissan Sentra 60k odo for 2000$and i wasn't worried about the offer price, inhave multiple vehicles. I just wanted it gone.not to say people dont scam,i just don't understand how anyone falls for it and doesn't ask for other supporting documents like insurance paperwork or something

I wouldn't worry too much about that, name/phone/address is all public record anyways. You can pay a low fee and get a lot of info on someone based on what's already out there.
