Ubuntu can be used in old laptop i am using it in hp pavilion g3 and it is performing perfectly , one can do gaming through steam ,can do coding through visual code , can edit video and photo via gimp and blender , can view edit documents using libre office Linux is at another level when it comes to free and open source

Arch linux is far better debian packages are atleast 2 3 months older and many packages are just not available.

Please dont say generally to new users that "linux" is user friendly, tell them specific lightweight distros like linux mint, cuz most general users would understand ubuntu from linux, and ubuntu isnt definitely for old laptops as it uses gnome, though i dont even recommend ubuntu to people having high specs even

Really happy to see linux enthusiasts here. As an artix linux user, I think gnu/linux has truly come a long way in the desktop space and hope it continues that momentum.

If you not run your windows 10 smoothly use windows 8.1 because windows is windows nothing can replace it.👍😄

@@Deadrose27 i installed ChromeOS on my 6 year old laptop before the windows 10 was lagging but now the laptop is working smoothly go for it! but yeah remember only google apps are there and no playstore till now

I am yet using Lenevo laptop 12 year old ( purchased on 2010 ) and really working fine. Even battery backup is nearly 100 minutes. With windows 7. I am really surprised by its performance !

Bhai Chrome os is not full fledged computer, if you want full PC experience in old PC try out Zorin os 16 lite which is Xfce based and its super fast

It can be used for programing and its very great at it due to linux support, at least better than windows on the same laptop.

Hmm So, gaming: Forget about AAA titles, Android games, but still we can do retro gaming through emulators (Linux app) Photo and Video Editing (beginner to medium level): Gimp, Kdenlive and more options (again Linux apps) So it's not that bad overall... And final thing: When you are doing everything with the help of Linux, then why not install it on your laptop or desktop 😁😁

i have pavilion g4 2012 model with 2gb ram and i am using chrom os flex and it is so smooth and fast booting time is very less only 20 to 30 sec 👌👌best for students ......... sirf ek kami hai isme playstore ki aur web store pe bhi koi app seacrh karo to nahi milta

Hi! My pc is also 10 years old (Lenevo C2 Series) and I want to install chrome os flex in it. It has intel atom processor and 3 gb ram, so I am not sure that it will work or not. Which processor does you laptop has?

I was using chrome OS flex on my Dell laptop with wd gd green sata ssd. Suddenly chrome refused to save images from Google. It said permissions denied. Previously it was working fine. Then I restarted my chrome OS laptop. But now it is saying "your system is repairing itself please wait" It is 2 days that my laptop is not working. I removed this ssd and connected with the other laptop. Ssd is not appearing in file manager of the other laptop but I can see ssd is available in device manager. There is some important data in my ssd I want to get the data back. Please guide me to solve this problem

I will suggest you xfc versions of linux. Works fine with old desktops.

Processor must not be older than those of the year 2010. Use XFC versions of Linux distros for PCs older than 2010.

Fyde os is better then flex laptop....because wifi is not working in chrome os...on the other hand touch pad is not working in fyde os...but play store is working with fyde....

Yes, you can obviously download and safe stuff on your HDD/SSD. USBs are also visible and usable, FAT32 formatting available.

Chrome os flex is seems to be very promising for old laptops. But my experience haven't been that good. I had an hp laptop (core i5 8250u, 8gb ram, 512 M2 SSD), but chrome os flex did not support the wifi chipset in the laptop, thus i was not able to install chrome os. So if someone is thinking about installing chrome os should check if there wifi chipset supports or not.
