The best thing I did for my family and my sanity is create labeled bins for my kids' toys. They put them away fast and easy. I do a 5 minute pick up everyday too. Massive change in my home. Then I started flylady and it got my husband on board. I had to rush out one morning and my husband had made the bed, wiped counters and put the dishes away. I hadnt asked him too he just got used to my routine. I think once you show your commitment to your family they will try to help.

I work housekeeping at a resort, so I understand the concept of "screw the dishes, shine the sink." When I train girls and they walk into a trashed room, I tell them to vacuum/clean the floor where they are going to start first in the room. They get confused until they actually do it and it IMPROVES the room immediately. The floor is the largest visual cue of cleanliness, so it lightens the room immediately even if there's mountains of trash on the tables. "Shine the sink" also works with the kitchens we have. You move out all the dishes, see where all the food has fallen and clogged the sink. Clean out the drains, wipe it down, and now you can double check which dishes need soaking, scrubbing, or a regular cleaning and work from cleanest to dirtiest. Maybe it's twice the cleaning (because we have to vacuum again at the end), but it visually puts the brain at ease for the tasks at hand.

I'm a flybaby myself. I had found her way back in 2000 but then sadly stopped for years. Recently found her again last year. Marla is beyond awesome her system that she "made her own" from two wonderful ladies and their system... good for you and I hope that it's something you (& all your followers) can stick with! May we all not just flutter but fly!!

I found Flylady 3 years ago and I love her system. The best thing for me is the 15 minute chunks of work throughout my house. Sometimes it's really hard to stop at 15 minutes but it's good to walk away from the task for a little bit, think of something else for awhile and then go back to it.

I been using FlyLady since 2009, back then she had Fly Kids too!...It helped organize my kids while homeschooling and help with kids routines! I still shine my sink every night!!

My mom is also a momma to 6 kids and she found flylady when I (baby #4) was in elementary school and it changed her life. I now have a baby of my own and am starting my own flylady/cleaning journey. You’re doing a great job with all the hats you’re wearing/tasks you’re juggling! Keep up the good work!

Congratulations! I stayed home with my kids the whole time (oldest just married). I wish I'd had a system. But the only regret I really have is not having more kids. You will be so glad! I now have the slow and steady system, but this would have been great to know in that awesome but fleeting season. I love shining my sink every night!

I'd love to see your control journal! I've tried fly lady on and off for years. I feel like once I had a minimal mindset our house is way easier to keep organized and then clean up is pretty quick. It does help that we have a pretty smallish house for the size of our family. We were all drowning in stuff at some point! And I declutter constantly. It's such a blessing when the kids get old enough to help. The past two years my two oldest have been in training and now being 5 & 6 they can really clean up a lot of their own messes and help with the toddlers messes. It's refreshing waking up to a picked up house😀

I grew up with my mom doing flylady and teaching us and I really need to get back to using her methods. They were so easy! I think it's an awesome way to teach kids since her methods are very small task or short time oriented.

I've done fly lady for years .I've had a book called sidetracked home executive actually they have several books .I did there system when Mt kids were younger and it's worked miracles. Definitely worth the read..

I love FlyLady! I’ve been doing the daily routines and weekly home blessing for the last several months and it has made a night-and-day difference in my home. I reworked zone cleaning, daily focuses, and monthly focuses completely to customize it to my and schedule, and implemented those at the beginning of the year - so far so good :) I’m glad it’s working so well for you!

I have been doing Flylady for years. I absolutely LOVE Flylady Kat and Kimmy @ She's in her Apron (KZfaq) I am so glad that Flylady finally has an official APP which I have wanted for years. Staying consistent and delegating jobs keeps things manageable so you don't get burned out. I love the weekly home blessing hour. I have always struggled with zone cleaning because I homeschool 5 children but I am getting better at it. Progress not perfection 😃

Love this! I was introduced to fly lady at the very beginning of my marriage (almost 22 years ago...gulp). It hasn’t always been my go-to depending on what season of life I was in, but it’s a solid system. I’ve altered it a bit. For example, I’ve given myself a different “shiny sink”...putting all laundry away is my “shiny sink.” Dinner dishes always get completely done around here (thank you big kids!), but we were struggling with getting the laundry put all the way away...voila! 😊 Can’t wait to see how you continue to implement the system for your family!

Just saw your video and I'm so glad you've found the FlyLady system. I've been using it for over 5 years now and it has totally changed my house and life. I always felt overwhelmed by how much there was to do and could never keep on top of it. But with FlyLady's system I could and I really liked how little time I felt I was having to spend cleaning. Definitely stick with it because it keeps getting better and easier as the routines become habits and you get more decluttering done. One change I made is I added a quick scrub of the bathtub to the Weekly Home Blessing so it was easier to deep clean when it was time for that zone. I’m a mom of nine and appreciated your feedback on FlyLady. I used the Organized Mum over the summer and it was wonderful, but I can’t keep up now that we’re homeschooling again. I think I’ll try FlyLady again. I just get overwhelmed with all of the steps, but maybe this time! 😉

Yup.the fly lady eats changed my life. I just stuck to what the book said and it straight up changed my life. Underneath it all, it is cognitive behavioral therapy.

Another flylady follower here! My only tough parts after a few years of doing Flylady is that I needed to figure out how to do my zones better. I’ve recently decided not to try to do zones for 15 minutes a day but one hour on Thursdays. That way I do WHB, Monday & Tuesday, (I do it two days to make it easy for me- upstairs one day and downstairs the next). As for what to clean in that week’s zone, I am using the flylady plus app. It has check-off lists you can customize. Another change I’m making is to only clean (not tidy) during my zone cleaning hour. Marla (Flylady) said to declutter first but that didn’t work for me. I love to clean more than going through stuff…Decluttering got me off track for Flylady zones because I had trouble with finishing it, so I never had time to get to the zone cleaning part. I changed all that last month. (It’s perfectly fine to go back and tweak your routine!) SO, I’m following Robyn Buchanan and Dana K White on KZfaq and making decluttering a different part of my routine, in addition to Flylady. I’m clearing the clutter one area at a time. But the zone cleaning, for me, is just CLEANING tasks. That works better for my brain. How amazing that you are trying this in a busy season of life! My advice is to focus on finessing and practicing your morning & night routines in particular. WHB needs to be done, but set a timer for 10 minutes each task and either let it go or do it on a different day. Don’t wear yourself down, in other words. Flylady says to “finally love yourself” and I think that means allowing yourself lots of Grace. “Progress not perfection” and “Even a little done wrong blesses your family.” Favorite quotes of hers.

After seeing your group posts I’ve been slowly implementing fly lady techniques in my daily routine. It has made such a huge difference. The only thing I’ve done consistently is made my bed, dishwasher unloaded and reloaded, clean kitchen at night and doing short pickups and tidying. My home is so much more manageable!

I was able to hop in for December, but I did follow along with the group and I have all my stuff to get her to start next week!

Good for you, girl, doing home school!! Did that for 20 years with 5 kids through high school. They're all great adults now. I'm ecstatic with having had the home education option.

Thank for this video... I started using fly lady years ago but slacked off for some reason, however I still shine my sink!! I am definitely going to go back to following her routine again because I felt like I was in charge of my home instead of my home taking over me (if that makes sense). I homeschool a 12 and 16 yr old plus babysit (6 mos, 2 yrs, and two that are 3) My house definitely gets away from me 🤦‍♀️

I've just started flylady at the beginning of December too. This week I did heaps of cleaning and finding it hard to set a timer.

I had never heard of Fly Lady before watching your video. I currently live in an 892 square foot 1 bedroom + den apartment so it is pretty simple to maintain ~ plus the fact that I am 57 and the only people that live here are myself, my husband, and our 5 year old goldendoodle. I will say that I am interested to see if the cleaning routines are carried out and followed consistently or if they are something that you do for a month or two and then let slide. I am not suggesting in any way that it is going to happen, but I think we have all at some point and time in our lives started out all gung ho and excited about something only to eventually fall off the bandwagon (I know that personally I am guilty of this). What frustrates me about some of the homemaking / cleaning channels that I currently watch is that I will see them put out an organizing video for various spaces in their home and by the end of the video everything looks clean, neat, and absolutely amazing. Then a few weeks or a month later they have uploaded an organizing video of the exact same space. And I totally get that sometimes you organize a space and think it is going to be functional and work great for your family and be a system that is totally manageable, and over time you come to realize that things just don't work efficiently. But more often than not, I am watching people clean and organize the same spaces using the exact same storage containers and in the exact same way somehow magically expecting different results. I find myself sitting there asking ~~ if you were not able to keep it clean and neat the first time and you have changed nothing about your system, how is it that you are expecting different results the second, third, etc., time? Good luck to you. Again, I am excited to watch the content and see if it is a manageable and attainable system long term.

i love her system! at first i thought it seemed overly complicated but all the routines are so quick and easy once everything is being done so regularly! i definitely adapt it a bit though like no way am i doing laundry everyday since we dont have kids/ generate that much dirty laundry

I want to give this a try but I feel like there’s just too much involved! I’m skeptical I’d be motivated enough to stick to this type of system…excited to hear about how it keeps working for you!

Hey there! I just had baby number six in November. I have never used fly lady. I would like to learn more, though. I have some of my own routines and systems, including a white board in my school room that has my dinners, laundry days, my husband’s work schedule, etc. for the week. too much theory and no practical advice.

What is a huse? You sound out of breath. I hope you drink enough and you get a clean house. It's not easy. But it's the little thing we put aside that get big Doing the FL for 3 years. Never worked... It's a great base, but need to adapt it. It weak on de clustering system. I use a 10 bin system and sort thing out. Eg under the couch. Pens with pens in a bin. Walmart sell 10 bins for 10 $. It's the best decluttering system. Then 1 to 3 time a day go back to what you already declutered and pick what added up there. It will stay clean. Try fly lady kat, it's way better. But my 10 bin system is way better. Stay home father with home schooler.
