Mo r his foundation wasn’t white in that photo though, it was just flashback so that makes no sense, he just has to not use shitty HD powders and he can still wear foundation that actually matches him instead of only painting for one angle from a camera.

sister James, 7 years ago (like Jenna in the video) we had no idea about setting spray, there was no such thing as too much bronzer or foundation that would match ur skin tone, highlighters were literally office supplies and baking was a way to make cookies 😂 we were cheap and unskilled sisters

shoot i didn't realize makeup can go on your eyebrows or ya know foundation 7 years ago.... just black eyeliner..... got gud and started using green hot topic eyeshadow with the eyeliner and a mascara and thought it was the best thing i ever done...

It’s pretty funny to me that I’m not too much older than him but we come from different worlds when it comes to what makeup was like when we were in school. Back in the day Jenna’s video would have been “extra” for a non-makeup artist in terms of the amount of technique, product, and and effort that went into the look. He’s honestly lucky that she didn’t have that weird bottom only liner or put her foundation on with her fingers like a ton of us did back in the day...

Not really, In the 90s-early 2000s drugstores(at least in my area) didn't sell that stuff and none of my friends knew what it was... Obviously it must have been around in the industry, but for the common consumer, no one heard of it.

I think Jenna nailed the look that was in 6-8 yrs ago... I remember watching this tutorial when it came out. As someone who is her exact age, I can vouch that setting powder, setting spray, and highlight weren't popular or highly used.

Am I the only one who likes this look better than his usual makeup? Maybe I’m biased since I grew up in the 2000’s, but his eyes really pop here. And his face makeup is more subtle than usual. I’m obsessed with this look.

I think Jenna represents the more everyday makeup wearer. As much as I love beauty gurus, I sometimes feel like they're totally out of touch with the everyday consumer like me. I don't have the money to use 30 products on my face and a different brush for each of them. I don't have the time for the full glam I love for every single day. Don't get me wrong, in a perfect world I fully would, but in reality I only get new makeup for my birthday or christmas. I'll never stop watching because the artistry and talent that goes into it will always mesmerise me and i feel like I'm always picking up new tricks to make my small makeup collection make me look that lil bit more sickening. I just can't realistically relate to a lot of this.

Just remember that your techniques were built on modern trends and her makeup tutorial was made 7 years ago. The highlighter trend was not until 2015 and people didn’t really know what setting spray did.

catnolia 333 Yep. Highlighter in it's current form didn't even exist. I remember being taught at beauty school just using dark and light concealer and foundation for highlight and contour. None of these made for purpose products. Gurus have it easy these days!!

MAC was all we had back in the day, i remember slapping foundation (powder and liquid) on my face, a ton of blush, mascara and heavy eyeliner and that was IT! no eyeshadow, no bronzer, none of that. jenna was ahead of her time in 2011 using brow products

Well... This Jenna Marbles video was from quite a long time ago. Highlight and setting spray wasn't very popular at the time. And setting powder wasn't seen as a must need back then. And there are a lot of outdated techniques. So I wouldn't judge her too harshley. 😉

7 years ago was a TIME for makeup. No concealer no highlighter people didn't set their face with translucent powder they used pressed powder in the same colour as their foundation. Shit was wild

armin-too-deep Contouring, baking, highlight and all the popular makeup trends today were still alive and well back then. Social media wasnt as big so the majority of the world didn't use as much makeup in the mainstream. I remember taking makeup classes exactly 7 years ago this year and being taught so many popular techniques we use today...people were just uninformed.
