There’s been a lot of hype around JetSuiteX (JSX) over the past year or so, and I couldn’t wait to try them out for myself. I finally had that opportunity last month - and it was a very eye-opening experience.
One of the most important things that I learned was that JSX is not a replacement for a real business jet experience.
While they do market themselves as a more upscale carrier with some of the perks of flying private (such as no security checks), it seemed very much like any other airline to me.
This is footage of JSX flight number 621 from SAN to LAS in mid November 2021. The aircraft was an Embraer 135 (N258JX), and I had seat 5A for the 45 minute flight.

This video is misleading. There IS security and JSX meets all TSA standards-the security is just more covert than overt. See those metal trash can looking things in the FBO-security check points. Just because you don’t have to take your shoes off doesn’t mean you aren’t screened. JSX is a TSA 12-5 compliant carrier.

Great review Scott - I am posting my JSX experience soon and I have to say I found it super-cool; ordering an Uber while sitting on the plane and being actually in it just 9 minutes after the wheels touch down is very rock and roll...! But it is true, this sort of stuff is a bit niche and doesn't appeal to everyone. I flew HOU-DAL and found the clientele to be...really varied. I was surprised there were several passengers younger than me there; I assumed it was a business shuttle, but it seems to appeal to a pretty wide cross-section - at least in Texas! I also had the benefit of travelling on the bespoke 1-1 config E145 which really is superb. Same woodgrain (sorry but I liked it, haha), mega extra space and it definitely did feel quite special!

Thanks Paul! Yeah, I saw you post some pics of your flight on Twitter (just days before I flew this segment), and I was really surprised to see that the aircraft I was on was nothing like the one you experienced. And you’re right about the clientele - most everyone on the flight I was on didn’t really strike me as high end business travelers. 😅 I can’t wait to see your review!

It beats the heck out of driving the 4 hours down I45 from Dallas and is faster than the airlines. A lot of my friends in their late 20s early 30s use it as well. If that high speed rail ever comes it has some competition on it's hands now.

@krozareq
@krozareq Жыл бұрын
@@Bdvss2012 Not OP but the JSXs hangars are right off the road, so the uber can just pull up right outside the hangar. So no shuttle is needed. But if you need to get to the main terminal, i.e. connecting flight, then you'd need one. In Dallas they're at Love Field, so Southwest is there for connections. At Houston it's Hobby, so also Southwest. Vegas is at McCarren/Reid at their own hangar on the west end of the airport right off Las Vegas Blvd and across from Mandalay Bay. They also have several winter routes such as to Cabo, Veil/Aspen/Rifle (Rifle Garfield Co. airport), Crested Butte and a few others. At Cabo they use the small Cabo San Lucas Airport, which is not used for many other flights. Most flights use the Los Cabos airport. JSX has become my virtual airline in MS Flight Simulator, so I've been doing custom scenery at all the airports they service as well as GSX Pro profiles (parking marshalling, baggage handling, passenger boarding, etc). JSX is an interesting concept in flying and I hope they succeed.

Well Scott, as a fellow San Diegan and pilot, if you ever truly want the private plane experience (small planes of course) we could do that! Also, before GPS, starting in 1946 there was (and still is) a system of radio beacons called VHF Omnidirectional Ranges (VOR) that help you navigate. If you have ever noticed the strange ice cream cone looking thing in the middle of Mission Bay, or the one up by Oceanside in the flower fields, that's a VOR. Before that, we had Non-Directional Radio Beacons, before that was Radio Ranges that had a very clever antenna system that told you through the beeps and boops you heard which way you were going, and before that, literally concrete arrows on the ground along the airway with rotating light beacons so pilots could go from one checkpoint to the next. Old navigation is really cool history in my eyes!

@@sanspotter My last flight out of LGA was so long ago that I didn't remember much about it. With that said, I had to walk through a "yet to be completed" part of Term B, which had that old-school low ceiling cramped look that was still somehow charming. I read a couple of weeks ago that the whole LGA re-do is *two years* ahead of schedule - I'm guessing mostly due to low traffic numbers in 2020, which probably let them accelerate the work. Terminal A, the Marine Air Terminal, is an historic Art Deco building and will apparently never be demolished or substantially changed.

I love JSX. I fly it regularly. It's a "low-cost" private jet experience which may explain why the equipment is a bit dated and the frills are somewhat limited. They're also relatively new, so they're probably just finding their financial footing at this point. (I've heard they're arranging for more and newer planes in the near future as they continue to expand their flight network.) But being able to climb on board with only 20 minutes to spare and to disembark into a small business jet terminal where there are far fewer people and much less hassle getting to your Uber is exactly what I love about the airline. And in my particular case, I live in Northern California, an annoyingly long distance from any major airport (Oakland, Sacramento, SFO, etc., are all at least an hour or more away). But JSX flies into Concord (the only airline to do so), a mere 25 minutes from my house--and there's free long-term parking right next to the JSX terminal. Free parking! That's a huge plus. In fact, that's another smart aspect about JSX, they tend to fly into smaller, lesser used airports. Understandably, if you're flying from one major airport (San Diego) to another (Las Vegas) then, sure, JSX may not be as good a deal as flying one of the larger legacy carriers to and from those destinations. Still, with all those advantages going for it, I'll put up with the tacky wood grain and the limited waiting room options (with only 20 minutes to wait to board, who cares what's in the waiting room?). Finally, while JSX doesn't have the usual TSA screening, they do test all bags and luggage for explosives with a chemical wipe--at least they do at Concord and Burbank (where I fly into). So I'll continue to fly JSX and look forward to them expanding their destination offerings.
@sanspotter

This contains ID information for known or suspected terrorist.

JSX is not a private jet, it’s a airline service that uses the private jet way of flying. It’s basically premium economy on board with better service than the airlines. There is security at JSX, you just can’t see it. There’s inconspicuous detectors at the lounges that detect weapons and they also swipe bags for explosives. I think it’s an amazing product, you are literally flying no differently to Las Vegas than a Gulfstream parked next to you would be flying to Vegas too, all for a fraction of the cost to actual private flying.

JSX has now gone to a 1-1 cabin configuration. There's a table where the middle seat used to be. If you look about 3 months out you can find some good prices. Also, the navigation back in the day was done with VOR (VHF Omnidirectional Range) and before that with low frequency Radio Range Navigation. A couple of decades before GPS being opened to the civilian world, planes had a INS (inertial navigation system) that used gyros and were attuned on the ground to the gate's coordinates. That was coupled with VOR navigation where the pilots can fly 360 radials in and out of the radio stations and to intersections between 2 stations. Some VORs even have DME (distance measuring equipment) that tells pilots the distance to the VOR station. Radio Range Navigation was on the AM radio frequencies and was audible. If it was a constant tone you were "flying the beam," if it was an A or N tone, then you were left or right of the beam. There is also NDB (non-directional beacon) and still a number of them around today, especially in the arctic that just points an arrow to the beacon but without having radials like VORs do. Many stations still around, but most commercial aircraft will use GPS coupled with IRS (inertial reference system) that uses laser gyros for attitude, etc. Even GA pilots these days often use GPS, even if it's on an external tablet and not tied into the plane's navigation and autopilot system. The radio range navigation started going online nationwide in the mid to late 1930s. That was really when IFR (instrument flight rules) flying came into its own. The first pilot to fly purely on instrumentation was none other than Jimmy Doolittle, who proved it was possible. Of course he would go on to command the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo shortly after the Pearl harbor attack. So there's a little aviation navigation history lesson for you :D

I live in Scottsdale but occasionally have to fly into LA for meetings so was excited to try JSX but to be honest their flight schedules have never worked out for work travel. They get in Mid morning and there are no flights out until mid morning next day. In comparison I can fly to LAX first class on an American A320 and arrive at 6:33 AM and have 3 same day return flights that depart after 5pm. First class on American is 1/2 the price of the cheapest JSX fare and our TSA pre check moves quite quickly (but again you’re saving a whole day). Maybe if they flew out of KSDL It would make sense with their current schedule but even then for short hops in the west coast same day return is a big deal seems like a better option intra California though

I like your take, Scott. I flew JSX between BUR-LAS back in April and I think we had similar experiences. The ground experience is great but onboard it feels more like Comfort+ as you have the legroom (still narrow seats), drinks, and slightly elevated snacks. Also, we had a rental car at the main facility at LAS, but they only offered shuttles to the strip so we had to wait forever for an Uber to come. But with an Amex offer and someone's promo code, it still came out the same as Southwest/Spirit at least on the same route. edit: Also looks like they have a new facility at Vegas! When we landed it was just a hanger.

Jsx might be a bit easier to fly on but, as a rideshare driver I hate picking up passengers from JSX. Sorry to say but.... 9 out of 10 are douche bags and act like they just flew in on their own multi million dollar private jet. They request rides while still waiting on the plane and make us wait for them like their own pvt limo. I don't get paid to sit and wait for your ass like a limo. There is no space for us to sit and wait. I have to park at the other end of the property until you msg me that you're outside. They are often rude in my car more than any other passenger I pick up from anywhere on the strip and hardly ever tip compared to anywhere else I pickup. I enjoy having higher end clientele from all over the world in my car but people think just because they flew on JSX, that they are high class people need to check themselves at the curb and stop acting like a douchbag. Enjoy the stress free 45 min flight for $150 (not thousands like others pay for first class international flights), be polite and enjoy the premier ride that you ordered to your hotel. :-)

@@sanspotter Yes with a standard ride the wait time is 7 min before we can leave. However I do premier rides in a Tesla and the wait time is 14 min before I can cancel and get paid a cancel fee. It's not uncommon to have them show up right before the timer runs out. I don't mind waiting sometimes but not when there's a known pattern/history of them being a douche bag acting all high and mighty like they just came in on their million dollar plane. I don't even get that kind of attitude from most high end business execs for trade shows and stuff that really did pay top dollar to travel to vegas for business (those are the ones that I will go out of my way for to get them through traffic/crowds to get them closer to a door and save them from walking longer distances etc. They don't always tip but at least they are often nice during the ride )
