My grandmother was an avid crochet and knitter. She made comforters out of crochet with tiny needles and tiny thread made of silk for weddings especially that was her number one present every to be bride would request it… she had multiple surgeries in her wrists and thumbs the fingers used and surgeries wouldn’t stop her from continuing her passion to knit and crochet 🧶 I am so blessed to have been taught by the best to knit and crochet. I don’t need a pattern to do anything because of my grandmother I only need to see the product if I want yo mimic someone else’s work but mostly like my grandmom I LOVE to CREATE my own and I have and I continue to do so. MERMAID blanket tails is what I started and everyone in my hometown I gave permission to use my pattern and they are making it for others now and my aunt asked me why I would be ok with letting others use my work and not pay me when they get paid for my creation and I said to my aunt if all of our grandmothers were that way then no one would KNOW how to make these things! It’s because of our grandmothers that we learned these skills and kept them preserved! No box store company taught anyone how to create blankets for themselves or CLOTHES 👁 these are skills learned by ancestors KEEP IT GOING FOR THE FUTURE GENERATIONS TO KNOW WE GOT THE POWER TO CREATE WHAT WE NEED 💯

I used to get creative blocks and not know where to start, but since I picked up my granmothers'(they are both passed on now) crocheting tools and asked them for help from beyond, I can't stop coming up with ideas. A constant flood of inspiration. Everything you said about keeping the craft alive, I agree with so much. It's important to know how to make our own clothes, and comfort, all different types of weaving from fabric to wood and grasses has helped humans for so long and it is much needed I think for us to preserve these practices and pass them forward. It can seem delusional in a world so ran by commodification and money but I can't seem to make myself feel any other way 😅 thank you for having a crafter's heart fellow stitcher 🙌🏻💕

As an artist I agree!! I think I've given myself lke nerve damage in my wrist after drawing for so many years. Take breaks, wear a wrist brace, don't overwork yourself. Whenever I draw too much now my wrist starts hurting after like 10 minutes. Stay safe y'all🖤🖤
