After a tough playthrough I've finally finished playing this expansion. Here's my thoughts about the expansion of one of my favorite game...

I personally love the DLC very much, and don't have too many complaints against it. Also to add some story context. Empyreans are candidates chosen by the Two Fingers that are eligible to become Gods. The theme of this DLC is abandonment. Everything in the Land of Shadows has been abandoned, from the Scadu Tree which is entirely the Shadow of the Erdtree in both appearance and themes as well. To even the NPC's and demigods encountered within those being all the different faction NPC's like Freiya the Redmane or Ansbach the Pureblood knight. This point is especially for the Demigods. Marika abandoned Messmer here, to wage war against the Hornsent whom ruined her life and stuffed her people into Jars. Why am I mentioning all of this? What does that have to do with anything? This DLC is additional content that provides contents to the base game. This was never meant to be an illustrious new journey with an ending that provided meaningful closure to us. No, that was always the base game. The purpose of this DLC is to provide context to what we already knew, while also providing potent challenges to the players. It does that in spades. The final cutscene you're shown is a memory of Miquella's. It's purpose isn't to end your journey nor give you closure. It's to show you that from a very young age he had a desire. A desire to bring about an age of Compassion for a world he believed to be cruel, he was going to become a god, and he saw in Radahn all that he believed SHOULD and one day WOULD become his power. This DLC shows us that at a young age Marika was a kind woman who did everything she did because her people were mistreated. She became a god with the grace of gold and upon finding Order her Golden Kindness lost its luster It's important to mention Marika because her story is meant to parallel Miquella's. His intent is kind and pure, but he brainwashes EVERYONE he meets. All of his/our companions in this DLC were charmed by him. Once his Great Rune breaks they're all set free. Leda immediately turns to trying to cull those she believes to be threats. This distrustful nature reflects upon the principles her lord left with her. Miquella gave her light, and guided her enough she was his sole knight. She killed all the other Needle Knights out of distrust. This shows to us Miquella's distrustful nature it's reflected through his most potent servant. The purpose of this absurdly long comment is to provide to you context and story beats you may of not gotten from your playthrough. I found all these things in mine, and I've beaten this DLC twice over and am almost done with my 3rd playthrough. I've learned a lot of the lore, and I was fortunate enough to discover many secrets on my own. It's sad this isn't the case for others, but my goal is to help your pleasure of this DLC as much as possible. I have to say again. There wasn't meant to be payoff in a traditional sense in this DLC, as it's purpose isn't a grand adventure with a tangible reward at the end. No. We're stopping the most terrifying Empyrean from brainwashing the realm. He's turned the strongest demigods (Mohg and Radahn) into a Frankenstein puppet that he can freely manipulate, if we don't stop him everyone will be brainwashed and lose their individuality all for the sake of his Age of Compassion which he himself barely properly understands due to his childlike ignorance which stems from his curse of eternal youth. We face a literal god and win. Granted I do have complaints about the DLC, but I've had plenty of time with it to form proper opinions. If there's anything about it you don't understand or want clarified if I can I'd be glad to help. If even with more understanding of it you still dislike it then that's alright. Regardless I'm curious to discuss this, so take care and have a good one mate (also apologies for the absurdly long comment). ✌🏻

Believe it or not I know what you're saying before I wrote my review. I didn't like the dlc' ending not because It has a bad story or that I didn't understand it. I do understand it. I just don't like it because (this might be my bias with ranni's age of star ending speaking) after defeating radahn and after reading items description and watching videos explaining the end(did this to see if I misinterpreted the information I read)still disappoints me. I got more engaged with the story of Ymir's quest than the main focus of the dlc miquella and his age of compassion. I got more value to add to the base game than miquellas story even if it mirrors marika's. The lore dump he said about the 2 fingers being misguided themselves out weights why miquella chose radahn as his consort in my opinion. Hence the conclusion to my review. As I said in my review I'm not trying to change anyone's mind that the story is bad, I just preferred the other story 'in' this dlc, I didn't add this to my review to avoid spoiling the first time players. And I think that's my bad for not including it, learned a lesson not to be vague on the next review I'll make. Also I know what an empyrean is, in the elden ring mythos. What I'm saying on the bit where I said "I don't know what that is" is the empyrean IRL... I don't know what image to use since I use El nino to represent a boy god.. Thank you for watching and leaving a long comment, I really appreciate it.

@@21stunit Thank you, it's always nice to have a conversation about the game as well as its lore. I apologize if my main comment seemed patronizing I misunderstood whether or not you understood certain parts of the story. Also in completing the DLC a 3rd time I can say there really does need to be a little more to the ending sequence after you beat Promised Consort it ends very abruptly. Even without a reward narratively it just ends and only gives a little context that more astute fans didn't need. It's so odd, I have a profound love for all of the main bosses in the DLC except Promised Consort lore wise. Fight wise I've grown to enjoy it, but lore wise it doesn't hit as hard as Manus Metyr nor Abyss Woods lore. Manus Metyr, Abyss Woods, and Shadow Keep along with Shaman Village have to be my favorite points of the expansion. Boss wise I'd give it to Messmer, Midra, and Metyr as well. All the side lore present in the DLC aside from Miquella's central story is absolutely peak. In some ways Miquella's storyline surprised me well, I very much so enjoyed Leda and her followers parts in the overall story. Miquella himself however I wish had a bit more presence in the story. Overall though I love the DLC, and I appreciate your review and the sharing of your experience as well. I hope you have a wonderful day or night wherever you are my man. Also good luck with your next review!

I just like to add some points on the video. 6:51 Base game already taught you what the boss fight is all about, and the dlc is expecting you to already know these stuff so it will not waste resource on creating bosses just so you can "learn again", it's the games way of respecting you and not treating you like a child so its not gonna hold your hand, Boss bumrushing you as soon as you enter the fog gate so you cant feed them laser? well figure it out! I could do it on my mage character and so will you. Can;t find a opening to retaliate? use a faster weapon or learn the move set. You choose to use the weapon, game didnt force you. and yes me saying "not gonna waste resources" will lead to "but look at all the reused bosses!" to them i'd like to say most of them drop cool stuff or lore reason to be there. example, deathrite bird in Charo's hidden grave drops the Deaths poker(weapon) ash of war, 2 ulcerated tree spirits guard entrance to Scadu Base, ghost flame dragon is there just so you can buy the new dragon breath spell incase u used all the dragon hearts from base game, Spell costs 3 dragonheart and there is exaclty 3 Ghostflame dragon in dlc, the 2 Tree Sentinal bring me joy of familiarity in this strange and foreign land, i greeted them as my old friends then killed them and took their runes. (But fuck that one Tibia mariner for summoning satan next to me) 7:42 as guy who played their game since DS2, the Hardest bosses have always been the DLC bosses, (examples: Manus, Smelter Demon, fume knight, Slave knight Gael, midir, Ludwig, Lady Maria, Kos etc). This has always been constant, Elden ring brought millions of new players to the genre and i just think that they didnt know the fromsoft formula enough to expect the difficulty upping. They beat the base game they think they are good and then DLC comes to beat their asses down which got their pride hurt. Cuz most people like me who played the older titles enjoyed the hell out of being beaten down lol i personally fought against Rellana almost 250+ times xD, but dancing lion took me like 25 tries, but my friend who beat Rellana in like 40 somthing tries died on Dancing lion like 180+ times with no summons(we were like scadu blessing 3). But we enjoyed the hell out of it But i understand thats not for everyone. 10:01 xD *owl screeches* *kills squirrels* 10:42 *spoiler alert* I'd Genocide the Hornsent if they were turning my people to those things too xD! 11:36 "....reaction to how player base exploited their base game" is a rather strong word, Fromsoft designs their game in a way that player choose how to play their game, if its exploitable then thats probably how it was designed to be intentional or not, plus i dont think the "X boss oneshot with billion different buff" video number #4000 affected the way Fromsoft designs their bosses, and this also goes back to the point of DLC bosses always being harder than main game bosses. And yes last cutscene was bit disappointing but in hindsight that was my bias cuz i was expecting Godwyn and combined with the fact i got spoiled by the ending 8 min after the game was released by the tumbnail of a top search result on youtube. But we all get mad when our headcanon turns out to be wrong and get spoiled on story we waited for so long. plus Vaati will probably tell me why the last cutscene was like that with an hour long video so im not bothered by it that much now xD anyways at the end of the day this video is your opinion and you are entitled to it just as i to mine, good video, left a like.

@@21stunit yes there's an owl sitting on the cliffside of that statue you see on your left, when it gets spooked it triggers nearby enemies and fly away while also spooking you xD. And i think its purpose was to trigger the naked guy walking in the forest to walk in your general direction, which you get the beast claw for defeating him. I didnt even know he was there until i saw someones blind play through week after release xD No, it's a fair criticism. And i do agree with your Camera Angle argument. it sucks to fight against larger enemies and this is something that i noticed since dlc dropped on that issue i noticed the lock on point for the Larger Enemies and dragons being higher than usual which kinda fucks up the camera when they do sudden large movements, What do i mean by that? example: you could aim at the ankles/shin of the ancient dragons/dragons as a melee character, but for somereason now you autolocks to its "knees" and that fucks up the camera angle being higher than usual more easily as it gives me less time to lock off of it. I really needed to readjust to be able to fight against dragons. As for Dancing Lion if you learned to fight him without locking on or free aiming then the boss isnt much of an issue, but if you don't and always fight with lock on then boss has several design flaws for melee character> It's a Big enemy and its lock on point is at its head and Torso, has lot of standing attacks which makes the lock on point even higher, but if you try to lock on to its torso because of how the boss is technically a quadruped you automatically locks onto its head unless you are standing at its side very closely huggin his dirty omen feet, but if Fromsoft added a "lower" lock on point to Dancing lion then that also add more issue, as the boss has lot of "spinning attacks" and the lower body lock on points has to "spin" with the model which will cause even more issue and potentially a nausea if you are always locked on. But like i said at the start "just learn to free aim bro" xD "git gud bro" , "just don't get hit! ez!" "no you cant use spirit summons thats cheating!" "you have to play this game in this specific way that i want you to play" I liked Ymirs questline too it kinda blew my mind with the implications like marika was never in contact with Greater will , but with metyr instead or how 2 fingers also was never in contact with greater will etc. My only criticism i have in DLC is Finger ruins and Abyssal wood being bit empty. First time i found finger ruins i thought it was a boss fight arena! since the spirit summon sign shows up on the side! So i spent 30 min getting succ-ed searching for this "boss" xD. AND THE ABYSSAL WOODS!! god its such a Good place with Great atmosphere, abyssal wood for me is peak environmental story telling in any game! i kinda get the lore reason why its so empty, But once you kill the "aging untouchables" they dont respawn! HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO FARM SWOLLEN GRAPES FOR MY FRENZY POT MICHEALZAKI!!(the torn diary you find in midra's manse hints to this, but ofc you will have no idea what it means unless you played Bloodborne) i just wished they added a "great serpent" type enemy from sekiro in the abyssal woods that you cant outright kill alongside the Aging untouchables, i dunno a giant frenzied serpent and those eye of sauron tower from base game. wish they leaned more heavily into the Horror/terror aspect, Such a missed opportunity. But that area was my Most favorite area in game even if its empty and desolate space, +Chadra best boss in dlc and has best OST in dlc on the sidenote: i noticed you are using Moonviel and Magic infused Uchigatana. This DLC really punishes weapons that deal Low poise damage. Moonveil does deal crazy poise damage if you hit with weapon+projectile on its ash of war but normal attacks deal little poise damage so you get punished as the bosses and even some Normal enemies can just poise through your attack and just slap you to the ground, but at the same time it punishes Big weapon users! because they are slow weapon, you have to wait for your 1 attack window after 12 different flurry attack that boss just performed or has infinite poise!(like those damn Hornsent Aspect Warriors), mages want to spam projectile? well most bosses have input reading, Parry the boss? well you better do it correctly 3 times in a row cuz most of the are parry resistant! It basically punishes everyone for sticking to same strat xD I had to use so many larval tears and switch talismans on basically every boss i fought against WHICH WAS A GOOD THING as it opened me up to experimenting a lot, I'm a str/faith guy my stats always look something like 60 vigor 54str 30 faith or 50 vig 30 str 65 faith and my weapons are usually fire or flame art infused if i dont use grease. I never imagined using Dex int with lightning/cold infusion ,bleed arcane or even poison or shield poke! but here we are. It opened me up with so many new styles i never knew i'd enjoy.

Wanting to support Miquella in his goal was not a dumb thing. The dumb thing was the player wasn't given a choice to do so. You were immediately forced to fight him instead of being given a choice to side with him the same way you can choose to side with Ranni.

I really can’t respect a review based on the difficulty of SotE when it’s from a player using so many guides to get through stuff and not taking the time to play it out, using old basic builds not optimal for the attack patterns of the new enemies, based on that I would say you haven’t sufficiently learned Shadow of the Erdtree to review it yet. Maybe put in hours and ng+ a few times with the dlc.

Some of the comments are too harsh, either from passionate fans or people that didn't watch the entire review. The video felt very fair and balanced, with just as much praise as insight on why the reviewer criticised some points while still never attacking the game itself. I respect a lot when a reviewer does not like or enjoy something while admiting it's their fault or because it's not for them, and don't whine that it should be changed to fit their preferences. As someone who personally loved the DLC, I wished it had more impact or meaning to the overall story. We had the unique opportunity to explore a DLC that happened in the present and that was cool, but I wish we could get at least a new ending for it. Still,. incredible what they did and I can't wait for what they cook next.

The best voice acting in this game is Messmer's line "thou'rt tarnished, it seemeth" because the voice is of genu8ne confusion. The voice actor convinced me that he was confused. Then of course it goes to Igor, lol. I honestly had very little trouble with the bosses for the most part. Hell, Radahnquella only took me 8 tries. The bosses in this expansion were faster but their move set and combos were pretty easy to learn imo. I am a fast learner after all. I recommend it to everyone. One key take away that you chimed in on a few times but didn't seem to take your own notes, it's an expansion. That's why the ending was meh. All it's meant to do is expand on the base game, and it does that.
