I JUST got it to work for me and it has literally changed my life. I suggest start with a knowledge database of something. Like recipes or books. Something you will interact with daily. Make it simple like an inline gallery with a pic of a smoothie. And then when it opens up, just make a simple list. Then turn that list into a table view and add multi select categories like protein, green, etc. Another multi select category for ingredients (can be pulled into a grocery list database later). Then add values like calories or protein in g. Create filters for green only and protein only. Make a duplicate of that in case you mess up and then freely tinker with it and see what else you can do with it. That's how I slowly 'unlocked' more of Notion. If you use it to make just 1 basic everyday thing easier, it's just gonna snowball.

I also watched a lot of tutorial videos & people's setup videos on youtube, they really helped me understand how to use it. love the shortcuts it has, it makes note taking super easy & fast..also makes it look good. I've been using Notion for 2 years now, it has changed my life! It takes quite a bit of time to get used to, and to figure out everything that you can do with it, cuz there is just so much potential. But when I only just started, I used loads of templates and set ups of other people, and as I was using it, I was changing some things here and there, making it more comfortable for me to use, customising it to my own needs and getting rid of anything that was not working. Now my set up is completely my own and very personalised to my needs, but since my needs are ever changing, the set up changes with them pretty frequently. I play with set ups when I have time, if I don't have time atm but something is bothering me and I want to change it, I will put it in my master to do list (which is also in notion), tag it with "someday" since its not urgent and I will get to it at some point. I am also a final year student right now, and notion was just so great for organising my millions of assessments. I monitor my progress through my assessments there, my to do list for each particular assessment, deadlines, milestones, meeting notes and so much more. I would be all over the place with my studies without notion right now.

Notion was a rough start for me too, but it's a great life management and project management system once you figure out how to make it work for you. I still use a paper planner for daily tasks, but Notion is awesome for splitting up everything I need as an author, graduate student, teacher, reader, and main house maintainer. Highly recommend it for people who wear lots of hats!

Initially when I got started on Notion my first thought 💭 was that it looked a bit complex. This is coming from an incredibly abstract mindset, nonetheless I gave up immediately 😬I’m not sure what inspired me to take another swing at it but probably less than a week or so later. I’d decided to give it another go and suddenly it just clicked! Needless to say, now I am obsessed 🤩

My tip for anyone interested is: just start. The great thing about notion is how you can adapt it to your needs, but it's a trial and error process. I had pages I didn't really use and ended up deleting, or that I had to change because they weren't practical enough. But after using it for months I am in love with it. My favorite thing is the fact that I can use it to store and organize random ideas so I don't forget them. Ex: I was just doing a page on places (cafes, libraries) I would like to visit in my uni town, or new activities I would like to try. It really feels like a second brain that I can use for all aspects of my life.

I like Notion for my book databases, but I'm completely obsessed with the note-taking features of Roam Research. Being able to make a tag or link of any word or phrase, then being able to see how those tags/links relate to other notes, is fantastic. Have you experimented with Roam? What are your thoughts?

I completely agree with you saying you can't just jump in and know how everything in notion works, it has so many functions and options that that's just not possible. I personally recommend looking up KZfaq videos about notion, people like Ali Abdaal, MuchelleB, Thomas Frank, and Mariana's Study Corner have all done videos on Notion and it makes it way easier to think about how to use it. I've been using notion for the last maybe 12 months and it is the single greatest program I've ever used, I use it for literally everything from my planning to my uni notes to just writing random stuff. I do still use paper for some stuff for uni and to do lists but almost all of my life is in Notion.

Ah, the old "find a therapist" task. That one has been on my list for about ten years now. I'm going to get it done this week though, seriously.

Funny thing, just one week ago, I too started notion and I did not really went deep down in the functions, I didn't even set up anything, I just have one huge document with all my notes from the last week in it, but in general, I think, when I will organise everything, it will work for me !

You're reaction to notion was exactly my experience "it's good but not awesome" and then everything just came together and not I can't live without it. I made a Bullet Journal in Notion for 2022 so I can try to keep it all online. I do love making my physical bullet journal, but I wanna see what's going to be like

I just found this out in the comments. Not sure if you still are using it as a BUJO, but be careful not write any extremely sensitive info like important passwords, social security number, etc. because it isn’t end-to-end encrypted.

@@xoxarily I didn’t know that! I try to be really careful with personal information, but I’ll make sure to be extra safe while using notion. Thanks!!
