I made this tonight! Some people said it might taste bitter so I caramelised some onions with it, added a bit of butter and cooked it for longer than the video. It was genuinely nice. Didn’t taste bitter or like bananas, I would honestly recommend giving it a try. It just tasted like the spices and the texture was pleasant, not dissimilar to the onions.

I don't know why people hate on vegans they're like the MacGyver of food. I'm not vegan but I use a lot of vegan recipes especially when I don't have milk or eggs or something like that. I feel like it's a pretty good option for vegans, banana peels are quite nutritious and are a source of vitamin B12 and B6, potassium and sodium. As far as I know, vegans struggle with finding a good source of vitamin B12 so I guess it's good for them.
@annikadalley7397
@annikadalley7397 5 жыл бұрын
Do you have a source for the claim that it's a good source of B12? B12 is only made by bacteria, and I can't imagine you'd have any appreciable amount in a banana peel.

This seems a pretty poor option nutritionally for vegans to me. Unless your sole aim was weight loss maybe... No protein and fats, which ideally you would want in a substitute for a product like pulled pork. I think this would give me the shits and also just the thought of it triggers a gag reflex! not a lot besides the bread, but its just meant as a replacement for the taste and feel of a pulled pork sandwich
@couch_philosoph3325

This is more to get the taste of a pulled pork sandwich and reduce food waste. The original pulled podk isnt that nutritious anyways. However, there are very nutricious benefitial vegan burgers: one made out of kidney or black beans. You mash the beans and then with oats, tomatoe paste, liquid smoke and seasonings you make a patty. The patty has tons of protein from the beans and the oats
@raevix5386
@raevix5386 5 жыл бұрын
@@couch_philosoph3325 yeah I use black beans on mine but I was curious and after all of you saying they are probably just not a lot besides the feel of pulled pork I don't think it's worth the time when I can just compost the peels anyways.

I tried this. I am not full vegan but eat vegetarian/vegan meals. I eyeballed the portions but this was strangely satisfying. Got the BBQ flavor but not as heavy as pork. The texture is just kind of ambiguous mushy and stringy which works. Going to eat this for meals for real.

Surely it would taste bitter when you bit into the peel? I don't imagine that any amount of seasoning would cover the taste. Ima just stick to jackfruit lmao

Alana, maybe not? The bananas she used were ripe and soft so they’re sweeter than the ones I’ve seen used in other videos. The seasoning and sugar in the sauce would also offset any bitterness. It might be worth a try since we throw away banana peels anyways.

You can make the pulled pork burger with jackfruit. The taste will be much more appetizing (since it's naturally flavorful) and it has that natural chewiness and elasticity that render the feeling of the pulled pork. Banana peel has no taste of It's own. It's kind of wasted effort. I mean you can even dunk any bland organic (even random leaves/grass say) in bbq sauce and so much seasoning and make it taste like something else. Please do try it next with bananafruit. :p
