I'm torn. I'm a commercial Heli/private fixed wing pilot, currently grounded, and just beginning my FPV journey. I'm hoping to have my first quad soon. Having watched the few 3d videos (yours, Zoe's, Rotor Riot's), I'm 90% sure that the secret I learned to inverted flying will translate to flying quads. However I don't want to give it away before I'm 100% sure and I am hoping to focus on 3d flying, so who knows, it might be my claim to fame in the FPV world :P. I'll try to get a 3d capable quad as soon as I can so that I can share with the world if the physics line up.

LMAO! That intro was great! I have found the best way to start is line of site to recognize throttle points and then go in the goggles. After that, we only stay inverted for .5 to 2 seconds then get upright. Do that untill you are a pro, then try other things like hovering inverted, forward and backwards flight. Then you will be flying 3D DamFast!

Great start Nurk. I'm guessing by the sound you used standard props for that first flight as when inverted it was screaming with such a loud screech. If you really want to get more practice while inside get yourself something like a Flourien H101, they are well cheap and toy grade but it will give you a better way to get used to the controls, or you can use Liftoff and fly inverted without a real life drone.

Great job,,throttle management will be easier especially inverted with 3D props. When doing freestyle I sometimes get so disoriented all I see is blue sky so I set up a bailout switch which basicaly goes to angle mode with added throttle programmed for a mild to moderate climb till I get my orientation back. I practice Line of Sight too which is useful.
@choppergirl4 жыл бұрын
Screw around with it in Liftoff first, 3D props are not hard FPV (wouldn't do it myself LOS) and no sacrificing real life parts to build up the skillz. Spring load your throttle back to center, that's probably my biggest problem because I'm too lazy to do it. When you want to kill all throttle your motor memory has you slamming the stick all the way down, which is of course all the way in reverse, so you need that spring back to center on throttle. Changing your motor memory that throttle center is zero throttle is probably the hardest barrier to get around. 3D is fun but not as useful as one would think it would be (yet! anyway), mostly because of camera angle. If I had multiple cameras and camera angles, it would be way more flyable. With only one camera stuck at an angle of 45, I end up going back to Acro mode for relaxing cruising with more throttle travel and therefore throttle resolution under and around tree trunks. Add more front facing cameras to a 3D quad, esp. a beast class, and you have one aerobatic monster. Try setting your cam angle at 0 for 3D aerobatics, see if that helps. Otherwise like with my favorite 45 cam angle, reverse actually has you going down AND backwards (visually in the view finder). Really for 3D flying what we need, is a video feed like the old skool full page displays, with the 0 angle centerline splitting the middle of the screen. That way to fly fast with tilt forward, your eyes can move to the top of the screen... to fly fast backwards at tile, your eyes visually can move down to the bottom of the screen. I'm theorizing but I think it might work. So I'd be trying to build some wild custom ground station to fly 3D out of a flatpanel computer display turned 90 degrees and sunshade: www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1536&bih=707&ei=a8uLXvfuHOPr_Qa-7byYCA&q=full+page+display&oq=full+page+display cg.air-war.org

I have run regular props a fair bit for when I want more regular upright flying for effcient flying and sparingly use 3D mode. I do have 3D props as well and while it makes for pretty equal flying both upright and inverted it really kills my upright flying time versus normal props. I have had good luck with DAL 5249 Cyclones and Azure 6040 props for 3D use, at extreme throttles in reverse they are pretty unhappy but they can work better than any of the HQV1S props I have tried. That cavitating you hear on reverse punch outa is a sign of being super unhappy. Worst cavitating I have ever heard was trying DAL 6040 Cyclones. GOD AWFUL HORRIBLE.
