I decided to try out Rain World: Downpour's Jolly Co-op in a unique way... By playing it with my chat! I allowed my Twitch chat to take control of a second slugpup character, and turned on friendly fire for some extra chaos. Turns out that co-op was maybe not the best way to describe this.

honestly chat choosing to drown themselves rather than eat one of moon's neurons was very unexpected and wholesome. then skurry revealed they were evil all along. perhaps chat always knew, and that was why they fought so hard to avoid progressing.

If you were to try this again, a couple Steam mods like Unshackled Co-op (by Dodo) and Pupify (by Elumenix) allow for "legitimate" slugpup players. You'll be able to carry the pup player without them crouching- and depending on which mod you use and which of its settings you pick- the slugpup player will have the same limitations of a computer pup, with weaker jumps and only able to carry one item at a time. Even so, chat controlling something they shouldn't is always a fun experiment. Good video!

I doubt Grimmchild can be controlled at all though. It follows the player and shoots projectiles at the nearest enemy so that might not be possible (unless there is a mod I'm unaware of)

This is seriously such a fascinating idea. Imagine having a series where we try to beat the game as a fully chat controlled group of slugcats. Spear hit would have to be off, but I feel like given enough time people would learn how to work together a bit better. Yeah there’s always be trolls. But I think they could pull off some unexpectedly cool plays together.

chat pup lore: during a normal cycle, you (the rivulet) saw a mother slugcat fighting of a lizard from her baby. You tried to help, but the lizard was overpowering both of you. although you were able to pierce a few spears on the lizards weakspots, it snatched the mother slugcat by its neck. you couldnt stop it from escaping, leaving you with a strangers pup. as a form of respect you want to take care of it, but all the pup sees in you is a potential thread since you were there when its mom died. now you are on your journey together, you being in an unfamiliar landscape and the pup being scared and unsure if it can trust you, not following your commands or even attacking you

Here's how I think chat would work as a rain world character: Acts as a companion that can be found and will follow you if fed bats. Lizards are passive towards it unless Chat attacks first. Gains stat boost after eating mushrooms. Helps when catching bats. Deals high damage to anything it hits with a spear but will occasionally try to hit you with a spear, but it can be trained not to by taking its spear repeatedly. Scavengers are not directly aggressive, but will raise their spears as a warning at first. Attacking a scavenger while chat is around will cause chat to attack said scavenger with all available resources. Chat won't directly attack scavengers, but will raise a rock towards them as a warning. Can hold breath under water for long time but can still drown. Incredibly fast in vents and tubes. Will bring random items to player, which can vary from rocks to foo d and ect. Harder for aggressive creatures to see. Naturally attracted to doing stupid things and must be stopped or they will perish. Unlocked as a playable character after beating the game with them as a companion.
