You don't have to take the hinges out to replace screens my guy. I've been working on all types of handhelds, you only need to do it for a full shell swap

Those original hinges tend to break when popped out. Old plastic clips are pretty brittle, that's why I avoid it

i need to replace the screen on one of my old gameby advanced sp because it doesnt display properly anymore. a new screen is like $70 if you get a newer one for it.

Of course, and not replacing the capacitors or adding a power regulator/rectifier to correct the amp draw offset creating stress on the GPU thus reducing the service life of the unit. Genius 😂

@@SasukeUchiha666-I think he means that since the screen is brighter (and therefore draws more power than the original one) he should also install a mod which provides that extra power without stressing the gpu so that it won’t reduce its lifespan

Wait, does it actually draw power directly from the ARM chip? I would be pretty surprised to see that Nintendo wouldn't add a separate power system to the board for the SP's backlight.

The problem with IPS mods for SPs is that the battery drains insanely fast. I don’t know if there’s a similar battery upgrade for the SP, but I’d take the original GBA modded over this so that I can use rechargeable double a batteries.

I have a modded SP with a IPS and it’s a godsend. Really makes playing GBA more enjoyable. First thing I did after I got It was go to Walmart and get a battery charger and like 6-8 rechargeable AA batteries. Works well too and battery life isn’t a problem with you have 3 sets of spares haha.

I remember thinking that screen was godly when I first got it coming from the regular GBA with no light. Let alone the Gameboy color 😮‍💨 I thought the springy mini lamp for the the Gameboy was a huge upgrade back in the day. 😎

The screen is the only reason the SP is better, well, that and the ability to recharge it's batteries, but that's easily resolved with a set of rechargeable double AA batteries which are easier to get ahold of that a Gameboy charger anyways, so you might be on to something 🤔

im not gonna lie, im not a fan of the sp’s screen revision (from nintendo i mean, but admittedly it is objectively the better screen) because it made it much harder to play in sunlight; which to me defeats the purpose of what i think a handheld is supposed to do. be taken places.

What wire did you use for the brightness botton to works?

I'm not sure which exact IPS kit they were using, but it would be pretty much the same for all of them. The wire in the kit i got was 11 guage (0.23mm) solid core wire and was around 60mm long. This being said, it really does not matter if it is solid core or stranded, or if guage of the wire is slightly different. Providing it is long enough to connect the 2 pads, and thin enough to fit inside the shell, it will work.
