It's so humbling to think about times before printing presses, when the Bible was written by hand. It was an extreme luxury to have a Bible. It took months, sometimes years to produce just one. There were not enough Bibles for each church to even have one. People would rent a Bible and everyone would gather to listen to it being read. Now we can choose from an endless variety of the Good Book. It is as precious as it was back then and we are blessed to have His Holy Word. 🙏🏾

I don’t think a premium Bible is a distraction in the way that other people care. I usually carry a top tier Schuyler premium Bible that cost well over $200 and only once has anyone else even noticed and that was a pastor who was a premium Bible enthusiast. Honestly if other people cared I would stop using it because I would feel like I was trying to show off or something, but in my experience most people don’t have any interest in nor can they even identify a premium Bible.

I am very new to reading the bible and I brought a gift bible and realized how much I like reading the bible but 1 annoying thing is how thin the paper is
@SaneNoMore
@SaneNoMore Жыл бұрын
@@matbarnett2664 Yes gift bibles are are often some of the thinnest papers. The thin paper is to keep the Bible light and portable. If you wish to find better paper and not spend much money the best choice would be a standard hardcover Bible. That said, just about every Bible will have thinner paper than a standard book simply due to the need to fit in so many pages but keep the book fairly portable. Though some journaling Bibles are of thicker paper.

I think I'm blessed beyond measure! To receive a Bible is to receive the Word of God as a standard. I can read it, listen to it, ponder it, believe it, understand it, and live by it. What is format? Every jot and tittle are important to the Lord. The little Gideon pocket New Testament contains life-giving truth that's fit for preaching and studying, and I've witnessed the skilled weild them well! Underground Christians find immense nourishment and treasure in the tiniest of sections. My life is rich! I can still remember the unboxing of my Open Bible when I was 12 years old. I relished the smell of the leather on the Bible and in the box for years. In time, the index tabs fell off, and I learned that I didn't need them. Now, thirty-some years later, I find the little recesses to be more like speed-bumps that get in the way. I remember the gold edges slowly wearing off like glitter over time. I remember the sorrow and regret in discovering that my treacherous Bible cover was deeply scarring the leather cover. I have many notes and stains that retain precious memories. My Bible was a comfort to me when I was in Iraq. It has been a guide and a tool in ministering to my children, the children of others, and many friends and acquaintances across many nations. Always, the best Bible is the one you use. I AM has blessed me richly, and has provided freedom of choice and options. You can't go wrong by simply loving His Word!

i dont think most people understand why premium bibles are so important to have for professing believers. when we study the bible we dont just remember chapter and verses, but location eg right page, bottom left corner. if your in the bible every day, after a few years cheap bibles will fall apart and will have to be replaced and those locations of verses will be elsewhere. for those of us who love God's word i dont see how several hundred dollars is too much for the word of God. we spend so much on other things just consider phones for example and how much they cost.

@DesignInNature

I agree with you on the muscle memory aspect. It just becomes second nature and then BAM!, the spine of your cheap bible starts detaching. Usually the cost of a rebind of an old, cheap bible will end up costing you close to what a premium quality bible would have cost in the first place. That being said, I do also see the other side of the argument. Too many people on KZfaq and in the real world just become "collectors" of high end bibles. It's a big temptation for me personally, to just get ONE more. It took already several purchases for me to land on the fact that the Schuyler Quentel is the best all purpose, midsize bible for me. And then, I thought "oh well, I should have one more as a backup in case they stop printing the 1995 text of the NASB." Then: "I should have one more in a different color cover." Then: "Oooh, the new LSB seems to be a good continuation of the tradition of the '95 NASB text. I'd love one". In the end I have only the ONE Quentel. But what I wrote above is my usual internal brain discussion. It's also distracting in the sense that some people become obsessed with keeping premium bibles in pristine condition. I've seen people lose their minds over a scratch on the gold gilding. I can't imagine anyone putting a lot of hours into the study of the word of God if they are afraid of mishandling their expensive, shiny bible. I think I WILL get another Quentel probably on my next birthday. I figure if my first one lasts me a good 20 years, the second one should carry me well beyond retirement without having to worry that this exact edition won't be available after a few years. But you get the gist about how it can be a distraction.

That bible is wonderful, there is nothing wrong with it. The only thing that I do not like is the lack of a thumb index and a zipper, but beyond that your bible is great. I am outside of the US and I am impressed of the diversity, high prices and the high quality of the bibles in the US. At the beginning I thought "these americans are craizy who is going to pay +100$ for a Bible", but then something 'click' in my mind or God send me a 'message' and l realized that, for many americans, the Bible is the most direct source of the Word of God, so the Bible presentation is extremely important for them because God talks to them when they read it, so I no longer think that americans are 'craizy' with their Bibles. Your premium or deluxe Bible is great and God gave it to you. The word of God deserves the best possible presentation. Thank you for your video.

I agree with what you said. I have a goatskin TN Bible and the main problem is that I have to always worry about the leather, if it's gonna be okay, because I rubbed my head hair oil on it thinking it would preserve it, but it didn't, it just made it drier. With lower quality bibles, you don't have to worry at all about the cover getting dry, dirty, etc. You just pick it up and read it without focusing too much on it. But Premium Bibles are really nice, but like you said, they can be distracting for sure.

My thoughts are to get a Bible that you're going to use daily and will help you study and understand what you're reading. Of course durability is a good factor as well. Relax man! It's a very nice Bible and you don't need to feel guilty for having a nice Bible. The only problem would be if it's quality distracted you from reading it's Word or if you tried to belittle people for having a cheaper Bible 😂 which would just be ridiculous and I don't think that you would do that! If that isn't an issue just enjoy this gift that God has given you the ability to have! You should feel no guilt at all about this, that would be misplaced. I honestly find the best reading bibles to be in the less expensive category. They have some really nice bibles out now that are high quality, fantastic print, and best of all, they cost a fraction of a premium bible. I thought about this alot, and came to the conclusion if we are spending hundreds of dollars on phones, why not treat ourselves to a nice bible. I like a Bible that will stay open at Gen 1. The Trutone wants to close, like when I'm trying to take notes during a sermon. That is frustrating. So, I just did a simple style rebind with no fold over, 🐄 outer and leather liner. It's the edgelined liner that makes the bible stay open. I would feel uncomfortable bringing a fancy premium bible to church. My pastor just uses an Esv pew bible, even at home. And most people at church have Trutones or a couple might have genuine leather. Haven't seen any fancy premiums. Anyhow, my own rugged leather rebind solves the problem of it closing.

1) I see no reason to profit Red China with my Bible purchases. It saddens me to see that over my long lifetime Bible manufacturers have counted on increasing their profits even on expensive Bibles by adopting this practice. When I was a child in the fifties and sixties virtually all our American Bibles were made and printed and bound here. 2) I still have a Thompson Chain Reference Bible from the seventies that I used as a main Bible in college and still use at times. Amortizing that cost over the past 45 years, how much did it actually cost me annually to have what was then an expensive Bible? Unless you tear your Bibles up yearly or mark in them like toddlers, the annual cost of even the best Schuyler and Cambridge Bibles is quite low. 3) When David and Solomon were planning and building the temple, did they go to Home Depot or Wal Mart for their materials? No. They, and God, wanted the best for His worship. Why should our Bibles be any different? I hear those who say it's just hedonistic self indulgence to buy a $200+ Bible. Well, I want the best for the reading and study of His word. 4) I'm a guy who, other than a watch and a cross, doesn't wear jewelry. I like the sensual feel of premium French Bible paper, the odor of the finest leathers available, the durable stitching, and the 'feel' in my hands when I visit the Lord through his holy word. I make no apologies for that. 5) Best wishes to you in your ministry from the Houston area!

I'm looking for a premium Bible to have for life and I'm between this and the Heritage edition. I wasn't sure about the headings in the margins but, sometimes I feel like the headings in the texts unnecessarily break the flow of certain passages. That's just me.

The problem with ESV and these are the fact its nestle aland text. If you do some research on the textus receptus vs nestle aland issue, you will see the nextle aland text is NOT the authentic word of God but a corrupt version. I ALWAYS buy bibles in textus receptus (i have a couple of nestle aland bibles too from before i knew this). Textus receptus is based on the majority text (like 95% of manuscripts) PLUS they looked at the church fathers which quotes or talks about passages in the bible when putting this together which is why its called textus receptus and not just the majority text. Nestle aland are based on only a small handful of manuscripts like codex vaticanus which were known and REJECTED by church and the reformers because they were corrupt. Ofcourse you CAN read it, but if you look into the nestle aland text, you will see it has errors that are not found in textus receptus. An atheist scholar will ofcourse argue that the errors are evidence its the original which were later fixed by the church, but if you believe you have the WORD OF GOD and know how much detail there are in the OLD testament, dont you have reason to hold an equal high view of the NEW testament? So what bible then? Id suggest KJV or if you understandably have an issue with the old english in it, NKJV for readability. Few know this, but you WILL bump into this if you engage in debates (satan knows very well about this), and that can destroy both your faith and testimony, which is why you should know this. Thanks for listening.

Dear commentator, perhaps check out the scholarly and theological work of people like Mark Ward(here on KZfaq), James R. White, Dr. Michael Heiser. It turns out that each of the things you mention have answers that actually increase faith and confidence in scripture. Your movement has a name "King James only-isom". It does far more damage than good to go around telling people that their bibles should be doubted unless they are KJV.

@@BrianLassek It's about preserving it. Eventually, people will deny reading KJV all together, or the NKJV, and what will be left is not the closest translations, but paraphrases. It's important to preserve what is authentic.

I was trained in a KJV only church but have since done serious study of the issue and now see it differently. Our bibles are so well represented by manuscript evidence that even educated critics no longer deny that the text we have today is an accurate representation of the originals. While I appreciate the KJV and admit there are English translations that are absolute garbage (such as the passion translation) there are also more accurate translations such as the NASB or ESV that are superior to the KJV due to the discovery of many thousands of manuscripts unavailable to the translators 400 years ago.
@someonethatisachristian
@someonethatisachristian Жыл бұрын
@@SaneNoMore The funny part though, is that these manuscripts verify TEXTUS RECEPTUS which KJV is translated from since almost all of these manuscripts are whats called "byzantine" or "majority text" which is the base text for textus receptus, and is a withness AGAINST the NASB/ESV which is translated from codex sinaiticus and vaticanus plus a handful more, which has been rejected trough church history. In addition, you have the church fathers which represent textus receptus.

I too was once of that philosophy but after educating myself I am now grateful for some of the modern English translations. KJV only-ism is unfortunately just a cult like belief that some very good Christians who are otherwise very sound in doctrine cling to despite factual evidence.

Sweetheart, it's what is known as a dry season. Profess to God that you belong to Him and tell Him you will wait for Him to return the feeling of His presence. Tell Him you know He is there even though you don't feel Him because you have faith for the steps you take in the dark. Praise Him for who He is. Pour out your heart to Him and tell Him you miss Him. I promise soon afterwards He will come and assure you of His love. Dry seasons are given to grow our faith. They are hard. They suck. But finally we are rewarded for our patience with God.

I understand your pain trust me. You might be going through your own version of Job right now. Stay strong and keep seeking the Most High. He still loves us regardless.

Seems to be an appreciation of a book based on how much it costs, weighs, looks and feels. Even the translation and source texts were seemingly irrelevant. In short, about as far as you can get from a proper appreciation and understanding of the Inspired, Infallible and Providentially Preserved WORD OF GOD. Please, DON'T go into ministry.
