I Used Calculus to find the Best* Artifacts | Genshin Impact

*Not the literal "best" artifacts but the "best" under various assumptions shown in the video. The method I showed in this video could be expanded to account for more scenarios and reduce assumptions, however, this greatly increases the complexity of the equations.
In this video, I explain a method to use differentials and derivatives to create an equation that can determine the main and substats of artifacts through an iterative process. I also talk about whether or not it's reasonable to use this method for artifact optimization.
This topic for the video was inspired by a comment from ‪@niom9446‬. Thank you for your suggestion on the community post I made a while back.

Nice that's interesting. I was playing around with trying to find 'perfect' artifacts too but since im not so advanced on maths i tried to find simpler way to do it. Since 'dimnishing returns' exists, every subsequent roll in the same stat will be smaller % total damage increase so just calculating damage formula instead for every next substat roll (from 1 to 45 max possible substats) based on relevant character stats and picking highest value seemed to work fine. Still got code somewhere maybe i'll look into it and try to improve it.

Ty :) I will have to say that calculating the damage formula every time is a rather brute force method. To be fair, it's usually one of the easiest to implement while still giving results. It just might take the program longer to spit out a result (how much longer depends on the total number of possible combinations).

Haha XD. To be fair, I would say that applications of math or specifically calculus are more linked to implementing or creating programs for things like numerical solutions and simulations. If you only really care about the results, then yeah, it's not the most useful. Though if you're trying to understand it or make programs for solving problems (especially systems with non-linear behavior), differential equations are quite common and found in many simulation software which can find numerical solutions to the equations.
