The toilet in nature looks both relaxing and uncomfortable at the same time.

Its kind of funny how Aki is doing this trip alone, slowly overcoming her anxieties and being more independent.... All to see a toilet in nature that she cannot use.

Aki traveling over 3 hours, only for the toilet to be locked has to be one of the most disappointing things she’s experienced.

This is like one of those uncomfortable dreams you have where you have to pee and there's just a random toilet all of the sudden but for some reason you can't actually use it

I know the main forcus is the toilet. But holy shit that ride on the old train is so peaceful and beautiful! I always love to sit in a train's cart like that on a long trip to the countryside. And that spooky forrest shrine gate shot aswell! So good!

I'm glad she didn't hold it in for 3 hours, not just due to the pain but also because I knew something was gonna wrong. That aside, now I know why so many Japanese horror and thriller media is set in the countryside. The complete stillness is perfect for creepy atmospheres and existential dread!

As someone with I.B.S. this a pain I know all to well & believe me when I saw it is the most frustrating thing when you find a restroom & it's closed, locked, or out of service & you are just there like "Well my stomach has decided it is going now not later." The fact that you traveled 3 hours for this is even more absurd, especially the fact that there is no attendant to talk to about it.

I did have the thought that “you probably should of drank all that once you were only 1 hr away”, but glad you went for the authentic experience, cause that was 100% more entertaining, albeit a forfeit in a sense.

Those people really decided to take the phrase "It's not about the destination;it's about the journey" way too literally. At least the scenery from the train ride was really pretty. Sorry you got screwed over by the toilet being locked.

That old train that you took was so cute, it reminded me of the scene in Spirited away when Chihiro was just sitting on the train with No Face just sitting and thinking as the spirits around her were getting on and off. Nothing bad happening, just something calming and gentle, a little sad but also sweet. Like a spiritual journey for yourself. It may not of been that big of a thing, but it reminded me of that scene.

Clearly from the sign it was meant to be open/used... im assuming someone locked it behind them (which the sign literally says not to do) and now whoever maintains it has to return and unlock it. the drip in the faucet kinda insinuated that it was used semi-recently

I feel so bad for Aki. As a person that suffers from anxiety as well, I know how hard that must have been to do and to get there only for it to be locked had to really, really suck.

I can imagine the anxiety traveling all the way there to use a toilet, just for it to locked, having your emotions flip around being pissed that you can’t use it.

The more I find out about Japan the more interesting, crazy and unique of a place it is, and I have been learning about Japan since I was about 14. I always find there is something new to learn about Japan and a toilet in the middle of the forest is new to me.

You got to admit that she was brave enough to go three and a half hours away from her house in a foreign country by herself. She said she does not like going anywhere by herself. She had mad props for doing it on her own and getting there safely. It is a bummer that it was locked but she was brave enough to do it.

With the gap in the door you could use a shoe lace with a slip loop in the middle to rotate the lock. A little something I like to call "Reverse Escape Room" sounds better than "Breaking and Entering"

Imagine you didn’t have a toot in your house because there was that right next to it, and you had to take a shit really bad. Like I’m talking sick stomach, and it was locked. I’d cry

It said to please leave it open after use. So sounds like someone shut it behind them by mistake and it locked from the inside

Sucks that it was locked. It has been a year, though, so the hype probably fizzled out and with fewer and fewer visitors coming to see and use a random toilet they were probably like "Let's just lock it so we don't have to waste time keeping an eye on it and cleaning it regularly". Doesn't make your situation any better but maybe some of the frustration can be logic-ed away.

Note to anyone that reads this: You actually really shouldn't hold your pee in that long, it could cause bladder issues or trouble later on regarding those areas. One guy even died because he held his pee in too long.

If I get rich, I'm gonna build an entire fenced garden just for a toilet too. This is art for sure!

Since you couldn't get to the toilet, you totally should have gone to the shrine or wherever that torii would lead you. Edit: For the surprise of no one, it's indeed a small shrine over there, quite simplistic, and have two shisa (I assume) statues in front of it.

Always buy a ticket. You can buy the cheapest, then pay the difference with a station attendant. That way you never over pay. At least 20 years ago you could sleep on the train and get off 1 station from where you boarded.

I bet someone locked it by accident or it may have an opening and closing time. Otherwise thats Kinda cool. It's a cool journey. Plus...That old train is awesome. Good on you for exploring a place thats never covered on travel videos.

iver the past 2 years i have been growing my independence since i am basically on my own, and even if it gets lonely sometimes, i realize thanks to this how much I've actually accomplished, not that i had much a choice in traveling places alone trips like what u did are truly inspiring and amazing, so happy you could do it!! it's a great feeling that you can independent :))
