My grandfather was a hairdresser & had his own salon in Oaklyn, NJ. He taught me how to add volume & lift to my hair. He would set my hair in curlers & use the long metal clips then put me under these huge dryers. After he’d brush my hair put. It’s worked better than any technique I’ve used since. Oldies are goodies ❤

@@naturalkinkycurlymarie7496Some just have naturally thick hair regardless of whether they use heat on it. My mam is in her 60s and still has super thick, long, blonde hair. She blow dries and straightens hers. It's just genetics. Both my parents have thick hair so me and my brother do too. Using heat can damage the hair you have but it's not gonna affect the hair that's not grown in yet. Your hair will either thin with age or it won't. Obviously if you live to be 90 odd then it's probably gonna start thinning at some point.

Depends on the person. My nonna is nearly 90 and has a full head of thick and healthy hair with voluminous curls. She has more hair than many 20 yos. The only hair care products she uses are shampoo, olive oil and a comb btw.

So , can you please tell me something I’ve been wondering for a long time if you are African heritage/ 4c curl or textured hair, etc…. you can put your natural state virgin hair into a roller and come out with this fine smooth sheen to the hair or is there some other work you have to do before hand? Like a curler is enough isn’t it? I watch videos where people do black /textured hair and they straightened it out completely and then they put big loose curls back into it. I’m always wondering what’s wrong with curlers. My only understanding is that it doesn’t last as long.

The past Decade there have been many KZfaq Videos uploaded with the Sisters using Lattobody and this method with different rollers including the Foam. *_Thanks for adding your Wigs in the Video. MOST people hide the Fact that they wear Wig & Fake Hair Extensions._*

black women might use this method, but this has been done this way by White women for centuries. Setting lotion was first popularised in the 1800’s, people would buy the ingredients and make their own and then eventually it became something you could buy. The shampoo and set fell out of fashion a long time ago (at least here in Ireland) but it’s still popular with the old ladies. Also I’ve never heard of or met anyone scared of admitting they wear hair extensions and the only person I’ve known to wear a wig was a person I know that had went through chemo. Wigs and hair extensions just aren’t as popular in the White community as they are in your community and even if they were, I can guarantee you that nobody would be scared to admit it 😂

My mother used the brush rollers in her hair almost all of her life. As a child strips of sheets rolled and finger waves. She ALWAYS used the sponge fir me. I'm over 60 - I use the sheet scraps or sponge rollers. Good for you. Your hair styles are beautiful 😍

Finally someone, who just let's their hair stay curly after removing the curlers, rather then doing a brush out 😅 I thought, I was the only one, who just adores the pronounced curls they leave you with, when mostly left alone after setting! I do use a blow dry hood (or whatever they are called) though, because my thick, dense hair would take forever to dry, otherwise. Those are well worth their money, imo, if one doesn't want to leave the curlers in, overnight.

We did not! I missed out.. What is this magical lotion?? The lotion we used for roller sets were for mannequins heads and not for human/people hair and it was a gel. Kinda weird pink gel, it would get hard and then it would stay and go white and flakey.

Lotta Body has been staple in the melanated community and very old school(thank you for mentioning about diluting it).. nothing like a good roller set and never seen someone air dry though the same effect as if you were under the dryer. You can let the curls fall naturally, in the interim pin curl them before bed and don’t forget your satin or silk bonnet!

I love an old school roller set! I think the style sets better if you sit under a hooded dryer until it’s dry. Because I have highly textured hair, I like using the hourglass or tension rollers as the really smooth out my hair and give me more volume.

The cool thing about using rollers is that if you use a hooded dryer and manipulate the curls before they cool down, you can get many different results like ringlets, body waves and straight-ish hair with lots of volume.
