I started with totes that didn't have bladders. Then I got some non-food grade totes with bladders and I came up with a similar solution but perhaps better for my situation. I cut the bladders diagonally into two halves. Each one of these halves can be used to create a peaked roof over your tote of wood. I hinge the "roofs" on one side so I can flip them up for loading and unloading. I'll soon have more roofs than I need for my older totes, but it's great for me because it sheds snow and sits outside the tote, not inside like yours. Try it out!

This is probably the best solution for the bladders, because your gaining 2 usable roofs, then either hinge or bungee over the top to shield your wood from the weather. You could also see if they can come in black, or if they will take paint, for a po-boys kiln.

IBC totes are single use anyway, that's why you find them for sale so cheaply, the original users can't re-use them. So you are not increasing the environmental impact; in fact, you are reducing it by recycling the cage and 1/6th of the plastic. Most "save the planet" "tree huggers" seem to be quick to criticise but pretty slow to present alternatives, whereas you are actually making a positive contribution.

Cut the plastic in half diagonally, and now you will have zero waste, and two covers for each tote basket, then if you don’t have a use for the removed metal from the cage, that can be sold to a scrap yard each 2-3 months, for coffee money... no waste only new uses!

If you have a need to irrigate, bladders could be used to collect rainwater off the roofs of your buildings. An inch of rain collected off a building with 1000 sq ft of floor area will pretty much fill two 330-gallon bladders.

The color dye is non toxic. It made of carbon. It however is very messy. The black color is easy to wash out but when I get red color ones I just cut them up as you did and when I have a load of trash for the transfer station I threw them out or j csn take them directly to a recycling center however any way I get rid of them costs me money do I try to reuse them whenever possible. Adam, great video on the ibc baskets. The one concern that I would have is the material/chemical residue in the plastic container and disposing it properly. I'm sure you have thought about this. If the container had something hazardous in them, they would require proper disposal at a hazardous waste facility. Not trying to stir anything up but your viewers should be aware of this. Hi Folks - In all due 🙌 respect, I see a lot folks are wrestling with the dilemma of what to do with the plastic bladder portion of a IBC tote when used in the realm of processing and storing firewood. I applaud the guy who first came up with the idea of taking these totes out to the work site, cut your wood, split it, stack it in the tote, until its full, take the bucket of your tractor, slide it under one side of the tote, and wrap a chain around the upper third of the tote, like a seat belt, and put the whole thing away out of sight, until its seasoned and ready to be moved in front of or near by the wood stove and unloaded with each refueling of the wood stove, as needed. No more pretty stacks, of nicely air dried and seasoned, now covered in snow when its time to burn fire wood. No more unsightly piles of cut and split firewood drenched in freezing rain, no more fondling of each pice of wood several times before its transformation into ash via the fire box. Please take a look at this solution where you utilize the entire tote, (as in, to transport, season and store your fire wood untill its ready for burning. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d9SGgpNoudSwhHU.html There has got to be a reason why? this very simple style is not more readily used. I am concerned that I may be in for a rude awakening. Because all I use is an angle grinder with a metal cutting fiber blade and a pair of side cutters. Cut out a side panel, of the tote, (metal and plastic). Recycle the metal and use the plastic as a door hinged by bailing wire. And there you have it, a miniature portable wood shead. Fill them up in the off season, store them out of sight and retrieve them when ready to burn. I want to believe only thing hindering folks, from using this simple solution is based on our fore father's heritage, (God love'em, with all due respect, they didn't have these totes that long ago.) And the solution of using the entire tote, plastic and all, is much too simple, begging the questioning why more people are not storing their fire wood this way?

You could drill 1 inch holes in the bottom, put a pallet inside, put a pallet underneath it, and then use it in much the same way you use the metal part. Due to the "ugly" look of this part you could it for wood that needs further processing. And i wouldnt bother stacking neatly as the intent is to remove it anyway. By the way love your videos, keep at it! 😁

One option I have seen is to cut the bladder along the diagonals and make a gabled roof for the cage. You can secure to the top rung of the cage with zip ties - and cut an opening in the gable end about the access opening for head room when loading and unloading the cage. It will look at little bit like a dog house when completed. You will still need to dispose of the other half of the bladder.

I planned on buying 12 or so but after buying 2, I used 1 bladded to make apeaked roof for 2 totes and now have a complete bladder that's not used. Since mine will remain statinoary, I plan to cut out the front and back, leaving the roof and flood to store more wood in. They can always be used by catfishermen for livewells for tournaments so you may be able to re-sell them.

Could also punch drainage and air holes and use as compost bins.

I’m hoping to build a woodshed in the next year and was thinking if I can get those totes cheap enough, I would cut the panels to make roofing and see how it holds up

I assume that the plastic is polyethylene. It generally has fairly low UV resistance. You could try using it for roofing and see how long it lasts.

I'm impressed that your garbage gets picked up, we live to remote for a garbage service, you either bury it or take it to the tip, a 35 minute drive.

One use for food grade would be for catching rain water for plants or animals, small market easy to put out for free sign or media.

Depending what came in the totes before you could get pallets from somewhere for free. Slap a pallet under a tote drill a lot of holes in the totes sides with a big paddle bit for air flow to get to wood and use it as another storage bin for wood. This way you get 2 storage bins out of one IBC tote. I understand some totes have nasty stuff in them as well. Don't know how strong the walls are on one of those but I think it would be tough enough to hold wood. If it were me I'd give it a trial run.

Try cutting your plastic tubes in half from corner to corner..from bottom left to top left to front right to bottom right back to bottom left. Makes to covers with a peak to have snow and rain to run off of stacked wood..No waste at all !!! Try one...and film it and see if you like the idea??? Happy New Year and All The Best !!!

I have a local dump I can haul them to and a section for plastics to dump them off then they recycle the plastic. If you got that within a hour from you then just save them up and haul them off with your trailer. I also seen one guy with fire wood cut top and bottom off and that access section out drill vent holes in it on all 4 sides and slide the bladder back in fill it up and top it with cap. He said it keeps more water off to dry and keep dry and it still gets air to circulate around wood. Then all you have is the bottom and that little access section to worry about.

Just a quick thought I had, what about paintballers? Possibly sell (or donate) the totes to a local range as easy cover to build a play area

I picked a few of these up today, the guys selling them was also making snow sleds for kids out of the scrap tubs. The plastic is tough and they're obviously slippery...haha

Hi Adam. I love your channel. Good attitude, good content. Could the plastic totes be repurposed as water/drinking butts for people in your county with fields of horses or cattle? Keep the videos coming!

Great video! You answered my question from my video earlier this week. I am not certain if our garbage men will take it, but I'm going to try one a week. Typically, their philosophy is - "if it doesn't fit in a garbage bag, it stays beside your garbage can and we don't take it." Are you using the 275 gallon IBC totes? Does your Kioti lift the 330 gallon totes full of wood? Can the Kioti lift the tote of wood when it's all green?

Great video Adam, Just remember, you’ll never please everyone, and most people would rather complain rather than provide a viable solution. I have to admit I’m a bit of a recycle freak and all I’d ask of everyone is exactly what you’ve gone and done. You’ve looked around and done your due diligence in looking into ways to dispose of the bladders and currently there’s nothing available. Stay safe

@@HometownAcres it’s too bad that the residue left in them wasn’t easier to clean out. They’d make great garden/flower beds or rain catchments for gardens otherwise.

Unfortunately this is pretty similar as to how I get rid of them per our conversation a few weeks back! I like the way you cut it down and folded it though! I’ll have to try that, I just bring the entire bladder to the dump.

Do you ever get the 330gal ibc? They are same dimensions but taller. I then cut 2 sides like you do the roof and use for lids. On these you can also turn sideways, cut the bottom off, then cut a door and the whole thing fits on the outside of a cage. Then it protects all the wood from snow. I do this for the bins I'm pulling wood into the house for and the next runner up. You only need so many lids though so I'm getting to the point where I chop them up and take to the dump. Though I'll keep one whole and put trash in it and the other chopped bins.

I wonder if they would be translucent enough to use in a winter garden as cold frames. I bet you could grow a few heads of cabbage under one of those. Just a thought. The idea is to Reduce, Recycle, or Reuse. You are doing your part by reusing part of what would have been 100% trash. That is better than nothing. Drive on young man! You are doing the right thing.

I lay a tarp down when processing and all the fines scrap and saw dust is gathered and placed into IBC PLASTIC TUBS after being run through a wood chipper and the saw dust and chips is then turned into briquett.

I'm not that familiar with them, but look like they'd be a good option to store waste oil as a whole unit. I like the fact that you can move them around with forks. As for as what to do once you cut them up for firewood storage, is it possible to use the plastic bladders to plant stuff in? Might cut it down a bit and drill some holes in the bottom for drainage, but that might work. Maybe even as feed or water buckets for livestock. If i have any other great ideas, i'll be sure to pass along. Great channel and don't worry about the critics. Easy to criticize when you don't contribute to anything.
