The last of five appearances by Arlene Francis on "I've Got a Secret", all of which have been posted to this channel over the last few weeks. Many thanks to Ron Gomes for providing copies of these shows!
SEGMENT 1: William Pollock, Pottstown, PA: A noise is heard backstage. "It's the oldest automobile still operating in the United States. Nothing on it has been replaced since it was built in 1891" (in France).
SEGMENT 2: Carolyn Binkley, Nashville, 4: "I just signed a recording contract as a singer." The Columbia recording "I Want a Baby Brother for Christmas" is played.
SEGMENT 3: Guest Arlene Francis: Brings out four people, each of whom has a secret about one of the panel. Each person is questioned only by the panelist involved.

Hi, I was the youngest recording artist signed to a major label -- Columbia (actually a child couldn't be signed legally, but parents could sign for her). The segment here was confusing because we had finished recording and rehearsing and performing by that time. Here is a strange thing. A child wasn't allowed to sing on tv because of child labor laws. So I was trying hard not to sing. I wasnt going to cry. i was mad. Steve Allen did the little hand wiggle when my voice had a little vibrato. i thought he was making fun of my voice. So there was the pout. But the questions didnt make since to me because I knew the difference between a band and an orchestra. But there were no plans for the summer.

and if anyone has the episode of "To Tell the Truth" (a daytime episode) in which my dear mother (who wrote for Marty Robbins) was "the real Phoebe Binkley," please help me find it. Mama died rhis past year, and my family would love to have a videa of her in her twenties. Sorry to ramble, but what fun. Thank you.

Watching this, I was astounded that the panel was taken aback by "Mam and Sir. Having moved to Tenn. a few years back I learned it is a requirement, and well it should be

Whilst watching this, I was hoping there would be a post from you and there you are! Yeah, I'm afraid you didn't get a very kid-friendly host and panel with the exception of Betsy Palmer. I think Garry Moore would have handled the hosting better on a segment like this than Steve Allen. Bill, Henry and Bess seem clueless when children appear on the show.

Love Arlene Francis but this 1891 car blew me away. That thing was in perfect condition. Wonder if there is still one in existence today 53 years later. A treasure and they didn't quite seem to grasp that back in 66. People are blind as bats apparently to reality.

Always appreciated Bill Cullen. I believe he was a polio survivor, and in the later years of his career, he was quite immobile, and you would always see him stationary on the programs he hosted.

He had trouble walking even during this time. The director tried to make sure Bill wasn't on camera when he walked. When he later hosted game shows, he was shown either already at the podium or came from behind a curtain.

Betsy is always full of class. She never forgets the people from her past and usually runs over to greet them, especially classy on this ep when they ran out of time. Funny to see at the end Henry lighting a smoke for his debate buddy.

I checked into it a bit, and KZfaq livestreams are just too confusing and messy for me to even begin to deal with, I'm sorry to say. The online help is beyond pathetic, and I just don't have 10 hours to spare to experiment around with this, given that I have very little confidence that the folks watching these shows, in general, are apt to take advantage of a live stream. From what I've read, live streams really work best for music events and video games. If KZfaq makes this easier/more flexible, it might happen at some point in the future, but for the time being, the live chats in the FAcebook group are working very well. I'm sorry for the folks who aren't in the Facebook group, because it's always a blast! (actually, we're starting in about 5 minutes from now. . . )

What's My Line? i understand. and youtube has changed a whole lot. and, the few livestreams i watch is on youtube. and they know how it works, and makes a living out of it. and games and Music are popular, for one big reason. youth. i watch retro streams, not new stuff. i wish classy shows like whats my line, ive got a secret and match game could get some support to. never seen any streaming on facebook. do people get money there to? i never Watch a twitch either. i might get facebook, again to Watch the stream.

HenrikHAAndersson Thanks for understanding-- I'm not ruling out Live Streams in the future (it's an intriguing idea), but for the time being, I think I need to stick to just the Facebook chats. I'd love to see you join the group, but I understand anyone being resistant to joining Facebook! :)

+HenrikHAAndersson And just to clarify -- we don't actually livestream through Facebook during the Facebook chats. Instead we all synchronize our watching devices through an old-fashioned countdown so that we're all starting the KZfaq video at the same time. :-)

200 lire in 1891! Daumier made in France. Dodge Brothers came up with their automobile by this model. Chrysler came up with their automobile about the same time. Lincoln about two years after. Each of these fellows had an improved vehicle. I flunked high school on purpose with the help of epilepsy. Hated my high school. They didn't teach anything new or modern. In Norfolk Virginia I was considered a genius/gifted in Virginia Beach I was not considered smart but remedial. I just didn't even try. Went to the library and studied and bought a lot of books for learning. Mom and Dad got me the greatest gift of all time, a library card! Every year I had to replace it as I wore it out. Over 10,000 books I checked out and read everyone. Including books on automobiles.

<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1500">25:00</a> I thought this looked familiar, but it wasn't what I thought it was. There's another show when the darling Betsy reunited --- the format was the same, having to ID someone from your past --- with her former boss in her first job out of school (in Gary IN?). Only that time, on that show, she almost literally FLEW across the stage to embrace him, having great affection for him (look for that show; it will be well worth your time invested). IMAGINE being able to do that; if you're like I am, the bosses were, almost without exception, louts, loons and goons. Upside: I'll never get sucked into that BS nostalgia about "the good old days"!

The show is about as old to us as the car was to them, and yet my first instinct was to think that the presenter and cheap car belong to the same Era, probably because both TV 50s and pictures in the 1890s were black and white.

Two bad we couldn't see Steve after he elbowed the kid in the face. He was probably ready to go into cardiac arrest if she started to cry. Lucky for him she "manned up" :)

CrazyWedz - I have calmed down a little since I got that comment off my chest. And I'm on stronger medication now! If the censorship was due to some legal performing child restrictions I wonder if the studio audience had to cover their ears? Also, if the act was to be censored why have it on the show? KAN

Steve Allen stated it had to do with state law of New York. Carolyn Binkley explains this in one of the very first comments on this video.

It is disgraceful beyond belief that the 4 year old singer has the sound censored from the show. Imagine this lovely polite child watching this show and seeing her song blanked out. There can be NO justification for such action. Whoever brought about this action hopefully lived in regretful torment. KAN

Garry Moore left the show in 1964. Steve Allen hosted it for the remainder of the run.

My guess is the sunglasses are prescription lenses and she forgot her regular glasses.
