Re: starting ease; the 135 uses the noble Perkins 4-107 (or 8) British-built diesel. That engine has "pre-combustion chambers" in the head which help w/cold starts. Congratulations on your acquisition of the 390. You'll never regret that purchase. Always enjoy your videos!

Hi Karen. Nice to see you back from your break and can see in your face how much you needed this as with day work and Farm work am surprised just how much work you do get done. Nothing is easy in life let alone on the Farm and WOW with the 390 you will be surpirsed just how easily it will do what you ask if it. The cow and the bully dressed out nicely fo you as well and they had all the right numbrs from grading so be proud of that knowing what you are doing is working. Oh yes the Hydrualic control is a great item to have and saves so much time as well once you get used to it then you will see the Value it the 390. Good sensible buy! It'll only increase in value. Even on a small farm it's worth having 2 tractors, even though my second one doesn't get much use its handy when I need it.

390 with the 3 lever gearbox was the first 4 wheel drive tractor many farmers bought, i wish you every success with it and hope it serves you well for many years to come.

My parents owned a mf398 4x4 and a mf399 4x4 both had mf 848 loaders . There are a few things to watch for with those tractors . Where the steel fill tube goes in the fuel tank over time they let water in . There is a screen in the fuel pump on right side of tractor should be cleaned once a year .The gear oil in the front axle and in the hubs also the breather vents on all three . The planitary gears and barrings are alot of money you don't want that expence yhe oil goes in the hub its self behind the wheel . On the Ebrake the pin that holds the cables to the brake handle likes to wear the cutter pin don't let the pin fall out it is very hard to get back in the cables!!!! If you have any questions please ask .

Well wear on your new purchase, of course it had to be a Massey Ferguson what else could they work 😀 if you just let some air out of the back tyres it might fit into the shed, just a temporary solution.

Well ware Karen, a lovely 390, they like a bit of heat before they start, if it hasn't it all ready a high speed starter motor makes a huge difference.

If you find starting becomes an issue, there is a high geared starter that you can get which makes a night and day difference. Isolator switch on the negative battery terminal is a good idea for when not in use is a good idea.

Well wear Karen, best of luck with it!..... you're not alone with fretting before a big purchase.... I still do 30 year on! But that soon passes when you see the versatility it brings you. When you work off farm you have make things easier at home. That tractor will give you good service.

Well ware with the 390. We had a 2wd drive 390 for 14 years and did everything, drew bales with a single handler, agitated slurry with a wexoman agitator, pulled a 1600 gallon tank, drew silage for a relation with a 16ft redrock, cut all the silage at home 70 acres a year with an 8ft 6 class disco mower, spread fertilizer with a 1 ton spreader. Great tractor. Like your story time is an issue with us we changed it so we could draw 3 bales at a time and things got bigger at home machinery wise.

Make sure to fit an isolator on the 390 if it isn’t already fitted, and make sure to use it. Looks a good clean one, congrats 👍

My dad had 3 390 tractors when i was growing up, the first one he had was a 390T with the 3 stick gear box it was a 1990 model on a G reg, the other 2 had the 12/12 and were On M reg, lovely wee tractors

The 390’s a brilliant choice. Whether or not you were spoiled by the loader, doing yourself in over moving bales wouldn’t be good. Especially with your day job being principal.

Well done loverly tractor looked after and washed down well after spreading fertiliser it will do all you need for another 50 years,these newer tractors full of electrics will never last that long,great comment about getting a weight block with a quick coupler on the back

Good upgrade on your tractor, they are not cheap but in fairness most tractors hold their value, its nice horsepower, sensible tractor, in good condition with good level of comfort for u, u need some element of comfort for your hard work, well done Karen, when u get a few spare euro spend it on your 135 and keep it for nice small second tractor, well done Karen, good luck with your new tractor, when u pick a loader take time and pick the correct one for your sheds and work load, something that is quick attach and detach, easy and quick if u want take it off, well done, up and onwards, u deserve the new tractor, 😊

Great purchase Karen! The farmer that bales my hay has a 390 and it's quite an impressive machine for it's size.

Those 390's hold their value well, it's always the same when you buy a tractor you always end up altering a shed somewhere you'd be as well on raising the door a foot if you can it will leave you better clearance working the loader in the doorway. Best of look with it it looks a tidy one

Great video. Congratulations on buying the 390, it’s not a 390T as you said but think of it as your 390G. It’s perfect for you, it’ll last just as long as the 135 if minded. My 390T starts like my 135, first tip of the key as they say, maybe check the battery cables, starter motor connections & earth to maximise the initial cranking speed. Buy the Loader you have on demo even if it’s on Hire Purchase and don’t put a front loader on the 390. If it doesn’t have one already get a battery isolator fitted, do the same with the 135 while you’re at it… keep them safe from electrical fires when parked-up. Keep up the good work.

Well done on your purchase they hold there value brilliantly. If it doesn't have one put an isolation switch on it. It can prevent a electrical fire and also prevent batteries draining. Love the videos

Best of luck with her Karen, have a look at rearend loaders before you buy a loader. I work a McKenna backend loader with a silage grab feeding similar number of cattle. Youd buy one for well under a thousand, they are far more manoeuvreable than a front loader and wont wear out your steering. The only downside is you're looking over your shoulder while working it.

Thats an excellent example of the 390 Karen - with the best most reliable gearbox ever put in in such a tractor, the 3 stick one. If you get chance to put a pair of front mudguards and a small box on the front to chuck bits & bobs in. A pair of hook ends for the arms will make hitching up easier but thats certainly not an essential. Well done, good buy, a nice example like that will always hold its value. Has it done many hours?

Hi Karen, Congratulations on your new tractor. It looks to be in very good condition. I bought the same myself in 2019 and restored it in 2020 during the 1st lockdown. I everything that I needed for it from dhfarmmachinery in Galway. I had a loader on mine and it was well able to manage the bales. The only thing that you will need for it is a back weight block to give you a lot more stability when you will be moving bales around. A 750kg quick attach concrete weight block is perfect for it, and it definitely will make the job a lot safer. You definitely made the right decision. While it is great having a loader in a yard, the tractor will be just as good, and you will be able to get a lot more use from it. If you go online, you will be able to pick up an operators manual and a maintenance manual for it. There will be a load of jobs that you will be able to do to it yourself, servicing, etc. Well done.
