KZfaq, and Google in general look like they've stopped (or dramatically reduced) using standard business metrics for improvement (things like straight-up asking customers), perhaps because they have such a huge customer base that the hard to parse feedback into meaningful changes is like drinking from a fire hose. Instead, those that have the immediate capacity for change have shifted to using a/b changes based on incomprehensible metrics that have been shoved into an insanely complex regression algorithm. It looks like they're spending insane money to develop features without a clear theme, and then looking at wildly abstract metrics for whether they're working.

@@jordanmccallum1234 Nah, not meant as an argument. KZfaq has a lot of incentives not to share the whole picture with individual creators (which you rightly pointed out). One possible path for individuals would be to figure out how to get their analytics data somewhere they can actually work with it. Doesn’t excuse the situation-but does offer alternatives for folks who rely on this information to make their livelihood. Edit: deleted the last comment, apparently it seemed glib.

On the subject of different characters that fool people: it's 2022 and the default font on every single major operating system, both desktop and mobile, still has a lowercase l and an uppercase l that are nearly indistinguishable. Either give the l a curve or give the I some serifs. I don't care about their "design vision" or anything of that sort, usability/safety is more important than looks.

As long as you can establish that ARM can provide ballpark-comparable performance for general computing workloads, that's enough to spark tons of interest for it on the server, where what really matters is performance _per watt._ For so many use-cases, operations per clock is of no concern, nor per core, and in many cases even I/O is of minimal concern. And to determine if ARM is right for your project, you just need general profiling guidelines, like "ARM is better/worse at branching latency" or "ARM is better/worse at massive parallelism." If ARM can cope with even just a small class of workloads passably but does it at 1/3rd the energy consumption and half the heat output, you can bet data centers will be very eager to help their customers make the switch.

That is exactly what it is. Take a look at Jim Browning's channel or Mark Rober's scammer payback series. They focus mor on the phone based scammers but it's probably similar or even the same companies doing it. An idea regarding character sets: instead of trying to ban certain specific characters, which is really finicky and prone to bad errors, prevent mixing of character sets. So you are allowed to either write a channel name/user name or comments in either Farsi or Latin or simplified Chinese, but not in all of them. Than you can start dialing that in until the user barley notice it, but fake names are still prevented.

one thing KZfaq could do to deal with spammers is to put profile photos of verified channels (which tend to be bigger ones that get targeted by spammers) into a blacklist that new profile photos have to be scanned against, likely with filters that check for things like mirrored images, color filters like inversion, etc etc.

They should allow content creators to limit comments to specific language with both strict - only "alphanumerical" and extended character sets.
@hubertnnn
@hubertnnn 2 жыл бұрын
That would not solve the issue. The best solution would be to limit what "new accounts" could do the stack exchange way. A fresh account could only post comments. After you get 100 upvotes on your comments you can post replies to comments. After you get 1000 upvotes, you get the ability to vote etc.
@waldamy
@waldamy 2 жыл бұрын
This would actually play against one of the other features, that is present in KZfaq - ability to translate comments. Some people can understand the language well enough, but wouldn't be able to really form their thoughts with it. So they would post in their native tongue, be it Latin or Cyrillic, or some kind of hieroglyphics written. And then others will be able to translate it via one button. Very convenient. Also allowing others, who know that language, to understand it as well. Contrary to using Google translate, where it might change the meaning, so neither the native speakers, nor the people who speak the same language as you, will be able to understand what was meant to be told through that comment. TLDR: not everyone speaks English/Chinese/German/etc fluently, don't lock them in

Ever since the new comment system (that was years ago), KZfaq has shown they care very little about comments (and they've even made it harder to see comments on mobile). I personally like that they removed the character limit. But even back then, people were pointing out that allowing links is going to be problematic, just as well as users being able to set their name to just about anything. Replies show old first and there's no way to adjust that, some channels have automatic filter but those are ridiculous. 1:41:40 Used a 1030, was miles ahead of the integrated for office work. (Upgraded to 1650 due to some very light AI-work requiring more vram.) Though if you're 2-finger typing and using a single display, this might not mean much. Also, the integrated had some weird issue with outputs turning on for sub-second while being in sleep mode. Enough for the display speakers to pop, which was annoying. for second-hand argument: warranty. In EU, it's still a thing. But for gaming? Yeah, you could make the argument.

The PC I bought for a specific use just won't support more wattage card than 30w (heck the power supply is only 90w) and that's even pushing things. the system is a new old stock thin client that I bought to use as an HTPC for movies and music. The onboard iGPU just wouldn't cut it, the GT 1030 allowed that system to operate how I wanted, and fit within the limitations of the system. It went from struggling to play 1080p content, to being able to easily do high bitrate UHD content.

Because then I have to provide evidence and endanger myself if the claim is false. WTH KZfaq... Fix this. Let me report it as scam / impersonation and it gets flagged. 2:06:39 - My biggest problem with Sony phones is they're just not available in Canada through Sony themselves. Have to import them from the US (via a proxy mail service, they will not let you ship to a Canadian address on the US website), or from overseas (Hong Kong, China, etc). They literally pulled out from the Canadian market in 2019 and it's so frustrating. They are, as far as I can tell, making phones with decent hardware that doesn't have a notch/hole punch, or lacks a headphone jack/expandable storage. Their Xperia line of phones is basically perfect, which makes me frustrated.

The only commercial products Harmony and Broadlink are good but flawed. I have a Broadlink and for me the app is serviceable but crap. I want a remote editor function or something so I can add dedicated On and Off commands so I can set scenes like you do with Harmony. I know the functions exist on my TV but but the buttons are not on my remote and trying to find a code set in the app that has them is tedious if they even have them And Harmony like you said is no longer supported so at some point it's going to break and it will be useless too

I get your point about low end GPUs, but still bought one. Son’s computer is small form factor case, with flex power supply, so without replacing the whole computer, RTX3050 was 100% our best option. Yes, in terms of raw FPS in games he didn’t get much of a bump from a 1650 Super, but he gained DLSS, video encode/decode performance increase, and his Blender renders are about 3 times faster. Cheaper than replacing power supply + case + higher-end card, and will work for medium term.

It’s interesting that Gmail has such an amazing spam filter (at least in my experience) but somehow KZfaq can’t seem to figure this out. KZfaq themselves also have a wealth of additional information beyond anything viewers or creators can see. They know when the comment was made, when the account was created, which IP the account was created from, how often the user of the account logs in, how long they spend on different screens, how comments are set, which browsers they use, and on. They can also do massive comparisons across videos, across comments, and across commenting accounts. They have a A LOT more data that they could use beyond just a basic words blocklist. They have so many overpaid engineers and data scientists working on useless products that crash and burn and yet somehow this doesn’t get any attention.

It's called Bayesian filters (and other related spam trap systems) for email. We've (email administrators) been using them in email spam filtering for YEARS. KZfaq needs to get members of the GMail team involved to process the comments in EXACTLY the same way GMail is filtered. This isn't rocket science, but DOES require teaching the filtering system to recognize things that a normal human would notice pretty quickly

You have my sympathy with managing spammers and trolls. I've spent whole days cleaning up comments for a channel I manage for my piano teacher. There were the same spam accounts you have as well as outright trolls and bots that had infiltrated the comment threads and ultimately ruined the real comments on the videos. When you announced that KZfaq was making changes for comment and user management, my eyes and ears perked up, but sadly this isn't working out as expected, or perhaps as well as we would expect from KZfaq. As you noted, the hidden comments/users do not hide ASAP. I noticed that they do eventually as if KZfaq goes through a cleanup period and purges marked users and comments if you do this from within the video itself. When removing the comments and hiding users from within the creator's studio, the comment/user isn't always hidden right away if they comment as part of a thread. This, I think is the issue you have too, and this is why the spammers are difficult to remove. This may also be why they position their hack as a response to another comment rather than as a comment-thread starter. I have a feeling that the people you've talked to about this issue know very well what you're talking about and doing the typical push back. It's frustrating for us because we know full well that they can easily click on virtually any channel and see this issue, but they don't want to bother because it's too difficult and means they actually have to do some work. Good luck with this and I look forward to an update on any progress you may have with this issue.

It makes sense that there's a delay since content (including comments) is actually stored on multiple servers which have to sync to each other. Different content (videos, comments, like/dislike) have different priorities as well. Obviously they still need to do a lot better, it's pretty sad when an amateur (self admitted) has made a better solution.
@Clavichordist
@Clavichordist 2 жыл бұрын
@@grn1 Yes it does make sense, but as an admin it's very, very painful. Sometimes, us amateurs see through the windows and into the inside and come up with better solutions. I'm now retired now but back in my IT and support days I was the processes and procedures guy who ended up writing up documentation for everything. This wasn't by choice and something that I had a knack at. When it came to training the users, I would put together a quick and easy guide and it was then I found, more than once actually, better ways to do things than what was stated in the original documentation, or I stumbled upon a bug which I then reported back to the developers. Those were fun days actually but now I'm too old to and disabled to be a worthy employee.

If you’re a software engineer, you’re getting utterly garbage information constantly. Feedback/bug report: “I’m getting spam. Oh it’s my mom.” And there aren’t any comments if you go look. What does that mean? And internally as well. “How come when Bob does X there is no button?” … because that was never going to be there… or more common than anything else, “everyone agrees there is a bug only sometimes in ‘the program’”. A company’s process could be updated to have dedicated outreach people to find eg comments for you, but they wouldn’t be so technically skilled. They’d tell the engineer, the engineer would say it’s too vague to act on, and they’d contact you to ask for an example because maybe they don’t have access or something. Or the reports with actionable information will be processed first. Or there isn’t a prompt response and their job isn’t outreach and the engineer moves on. Or the involved parties are bored by this topic they’ve been assigned. If you were a manager you’d find the same experience. You’d say “why this?” and get met with “not specific enough.” Everyone thinks they know best. Managers, engineers, clients, commentators, You name it… the truth is only I know best.
