Disagree. The first Iron Man feels like it's going to ramp up from here but it ramps down and sideways. The reason people enjoy the MCU so much was the hype of going to the theater to see it with groups of people reacting to them. Watching them at home is just, boring. They lack the soul and cinematic power of other franchises like TDK Trilogy, LOTR trilogy, etc. to be as affective in other contexts.

One thing I liked from the original storyline was that his heart was so weak and damaged that he had to wear the whole vest part of the suit or he'd die, the really played on the juxtaposition of this incredibly powerful hero who was super weak and on death's door if he tried to live a normal life.

There are two schools of thought about these movies from comments below: #1: "Don't watch them in the order they came out watch them in timeline order!!" #2: "If you're going to watch the MCU movies, PLEASE watch them in RELEASE ORDER. You'll save yourself a ton of headaches, and not spoil future events and characters. Also, it's much less confusing this way. Look for Stan Lee cameo in every movie!!" At the end of the video, I believe you're describing how Marvel movies handle suspension of disbelief. While horror movies and thrillers present a situation and expect you to just accept it for what it is, the Marvel universe is so thoroughly fleshed out that even the most ridiculous concepts are easy to digest and accept. As you go through the universe, you will be presented concepts that, at face value, would sound absolutely ludicrous. But the way Marvel handles these things, it is so easy to just say, "Yeah... this makes sense". Enjoy the ride!
@Klaital1

They even make a meta comment about that later on, with one of the villains whole plan based on that people will believe anything, no matter how ridiculous it sounds, as long as you present it well enough.

"Wizard's First Rule: people are stupid." Richard and Kahlan frowned even more. "People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool." "Because of Wizards First Rule, the old wizards created Confessors, and Seekers, as a means of helping find the truth, when the truth is important enough. Darken Rahl knows the Wizard's Rules. He is using the first one. People need an enemy to feel a sense of purpose. It's easy to lead people when they have a sense of purpose. Sense of purpose is more important by far than the truth. In fact, truth has no bearing in this. Darken Rahl is providing them with an enemy, other than himself, a sense of purpose. People are stupid; they want to believe, so they do." ~ Terry Goodkind

The initial premise of Stark's heart-gizmo was indeed to prevent shrapnel from moving toward his heart, but it really seems to me like they abandon that part way through, and adopt a "it's actually powering his circulatory system" idea, and ride with that until a few Iron Man movies later. Sadly inconsistent, but if you can get past it, the ride is definitely worthwhile.

Hey, Stef! Welcome to the Marvel Cinematic Universe! "Iron Man" is the kick-off to a spectacular cinematic journey that altered the industry paradigm. The MCU is a series of 20+ interrelated films culminating in a huge 2-part movie event! The movies are all based on Marvel Comics characters who were co-created beginning in 1961 by editor/writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. Unlike other comic universes, the Marvel Universe is set in our world with many of the principals residing in New York City. What is distinctive about the Marvel pantheon is that the characters all have feet of clay; they struggle to measure up to the burden of power. Stan, Jack and artist Don Heck introduced Iron Man in 1963 in the anthology title "Tales of Suspense" expressly modeling the character on Howard Hughes and deliberately going against the anti-establishment grain of the '60's by making him a capitalist arms dealer. Insulated by wealth and ego, the epiphany he experiences and the life-threatening wound he incurs as a result of his captivity made him vulnerable and relatable to a readership predisposed to mistrusting a quintessential captain of industry. Moreover, Tony, in the comics, is also humanized by being an inveterate alcoholic which is barely alluded to in the films. The trick worked and the dichotomy hooked readers. Reframing his captors from Vietnamese Communist guerrillas in the comics to Afghan Islamicist mujahideen, the first Iron Man film adapts Tony's origin and the "Iron Monger" story arc. Iron Man was a second tier Marvel character known famously for his extravagant wealth and his endless struggle with alcoholism. Jon Favreau was an indie writer/director with one mainstream comedy hit, "Elf", under his belt. Robert Downey, Jr. was a respected former Brat Packer whose bankable days were behind him and who was then known more for drug addiction, womanizing and a motor mouth. This film should not have worked. After an aborted attempt at a shared universe with the Hulk in 2003 directed by serious auteur Ang Lee, Marvel threw the dice with Tony Stark and improbably won! It was kismet. Very rarely does an actor so ideally match a role. Downey, Jr. was BORN to play Tony Stark. His arc in the MCU is one of the best character developments I've ever seen in cinema. Remember Yinsen's last words, "Don't waste your life.", because Stark never forgets them. The cast is excellent. To support RDJ, Oscar-winner Jeff Bridges was brought aboard as Obadiah Stane setting a precedent of enlisting top-tier talent for MCU films. Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia 'Pepper' Potts, Terrence Howard as Lt. Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes, Paul Bettany as disembodied JARVIS and director Jon Favreau himself as Harold 'Happy' Hogan round out the Stark stable. Shaun Toub is affecting as Stark's savior Yinsen and Faran Tahir exudes menace as Ten Rings terrorist Raza. Unflappable Clark Gregg introduces SHIELD as Agent Phil Coulson and Samuel L. Jackson makes his first appearance as Director Nick Fury. Leslie Bibb has a bit part as ambitious journalist Christine Everhart as does Tim Guinee as USAF Major Allen. Blink and you'll miss Nazanin Boniadi of "Homeland" and "The Rings of Power" as a television news correspondent reporting from Gulmira and veteran character actor Bill Smitrovich as a General attending Stark's Jericho demonstration. Former child actor Peter Billingsley from the holiday classic "A Christmas Story" plays the technician chewed out by Stane for being unable to miniaturize the arc reactor. TRIVIA: 1. As a tribute to Howard Hughes, who served as a template for both Howard and Tony Stark, production was based in the former Hughes Company soundstages in Playa Vista. Tony's garage/lab is the area where Hughes assembled the H-4 Hercules airplane aka 'The Spruce Goose'. 2. The original script was discarded right before production began so each day's scenes were improvisationally workshopped between the cast, director and producers just prior to shooting resulting in an indie sensibility which Jeff Bridges has affectionately referred to as "a $200 million student film!" EASTER EGGS: 1. The Ten Rings terrorist organization refers to the ten alien rings worn by Stark's traditional comic book nemesis, The Mandarin. 2. Raza, leader of the terror cell, is named after but bears no resemblance to a cyborg space pirate from the comics who is part of a crew of interstellar corsairs and X-Men allies known as the Starjammers. 3. JARVIS is an acronym for 'Just A Rather Very Intelligent System'! The namesake for Tony's operating system is the human butler who looked after him as a child and who serves the Avengers in the comics: Edwin Jarvis. Mr. Jarvis plays a significant role in the TV series "Agent Carter" portrayed by James D'Arcy. 4. If viewed chronologically, then these are the second appearances of Coulson and Fury in the saga. CAMEO: 1. Co-creator STAN LEE shows up in every Marvel movie for a Hitchcock-style CAMEO! In "Iron Man", he's the elderly gent in the smoking jacket with his arms around two nubile blondes who gets mistaken for Hugh Hefner by Tony on the red carpet! Lol. END-CREDIT SCENE: 1. Almost all Marvel movies have multiple bonus scenes during and after the credits. The "Iron Man" end-credit scene shows Nick Fury approach Tony Stark about the Avenger Initiative. The next chronological stop in the MCU is "Iron Man 2" and its companion One-Shot "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer" found on DPlus. FIVE TIPS: 1. Watch the credits all the way through so you don't miss END-CREDIT SCENES! You nailed this one right off! 2. Point out Marvel Universe co-creator STAN LEE! Stan cameos in most Marvel movies like Hitchcock and it's fun to spot him! He was the dapper elderly gent mistaken for Hugh Hefner by Tony on the red carpet! 3. Include the ONE-SHOTS! There are five shorts called One-Shots associated with five of the movies in Phase 1. They are canonical and available on DPlus. The one paired with "Captain America: The First Avenger" is the Agent Carter One-Shot which can alternatively be seen as a coda to the first 8-episode Season of the "Agent Carter" series. 4. Take breaks to incorporate NON-MCU Marvel movies and series as they, too, get merged into the MCU narrative. These include 13 X-Men movies, 6 Spider-Man movies, 2 Venom movies, 1 Hulk movie and Netflix Daredevil. 5. If you know very little about the Hulk, I highly recommend seeing Ang Lee's 2003 "Hulk" as it covers the ORIGIN of the Hulk whereas the MCU film doesn't. The movie is NON-CANON pre-dating the MCU but it has a great cast, director, score and comic accurate sequences seen in no other MCU film in which the Hulk appears. It even ENDS where the MCU "Incredible Hulk" BEGINS!!! It was supposed to be the STARTING POINT for the MCU initially but it failed to gain traction at the box office because audiences were not accustomed to a serious approach to superhero films at the time. Ang Lee is an Oscar-winning director responsible for such films as "Eat Drink Man Woman", "Sense and Sensibility", "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Ride with the Devil", "Brokeback Mountain", "Life of Pi" and "Gemini Man". RECOMMENDED SEQUENCE FOR PHASE 1: 0. (HULK (2003)) [OPTIONAL proto-MCU Hulk origin] 1. IRON MAN 2. IRON MAN 2 + A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer One-Shot 3. THE INCREDIBLE HULK + The Consultant One-Shot 4. THOR 5. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER + Agent Carter One-Shot 6. THE AVENGERS + Item 47 One-Shot 7. (Agent Carter: Season 1 + Agent Carter One-Shot) [OPTIONAL Interphase Interlude]

Without a power source to power the magnet, the shrapnel will slowly move towards his heart, eventually causing cardiac arrest, and in Tony's case, death.

they never explicitly state it, but the unit in his chest _must_ have a pace-maker in it too, for him to have the immediate symptoms he shows throughout the series. when Obadiah takes it here, he's gets the sonic whammy too, but it's elsewhere too.

Stef the last scene wasn't accidental. For years in the comics Iron Man was the bodyguard of Stark and Stark Inc. to protect his identity and stock value. Q: Stef Why the MCU instead of another Sci-fi series?

There's a very meta story about that cheeseburger, btw. RDJ got a shitty BK burger, and had the epiphany that he'd hit rock bottom with his drug abuse etc. and that was when he threw the burger away and decided to turn his life around. he got clean and sober, and focused on his career: and this film was the moment he skyrocketed into super-stardom!

Great reaction! 😊 After watching your Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies I was hoping that you were going to dive into the MCU. This is one of my favorite Phase 1 MCU films. Robert Downey Jr. is perfect as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Gwyneth Paltrow is great as Pepper Potts. Love Terrance Howard as Rhodey Rhodes. And Jeff Bridges is fantastic as bad guy Obadiah Stane. Yinsen is one of the best characters in this movie. It's always sad that we only see him in the beginning. But he does help Tony make his very first Iron Man suit. Fun Fact: Tony's "I am Iron Man" line at the end of the movie was improvised by Robert Downey Jr. Glad that you knew about the post-credit scene at the end of this(and every MCU)movie. And starting with "The Avengers" the movies will start having either one or two post-credit scenes. Up next in the MCU is: "The Incredible Hulk" from 2008 with Edward Norton. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊

Yensen, is our first hero. IYKYK Welcome to Marvel Phase 1-1 (of -6) The new tone of the marvel universe was set here with RDJ and John Farveu, a tone that has turned into the little screamers that begged you to start it, lol. I'm sure a lot of us appreciate your Patreoners, for convincing you. (in my comments below when i say you should "remember" it, its for you to take with you through the MCU Movies for easter eggs or connections) (anyone in the comments want to add-on, please! It helps! But do so without refering to the future films from Phase1-1 for the sake of viewers watching along with Stef Solari) 9:00 as best as i understood it: its travelling with bloodflow which is dangerous itself but since its "walking" it is less dangerous until it reaches your heart where you bleed to death from involuntary function. The mini-reactor, i believe, is utilizing reverse polarization to keep the shrapnel away from the heart. Or im wrong and it's just keeping shrapnel in one spot. 10:00 Keep that in mind (the 10 rings)// ...the background music? yeah i agree. You will hear those subtle themes of specific heros as you carry on your mcu journey as well. 11:31 You even covered your mouth, hahahahah!!! why you telling 'em all our secrets!? 15:41 also remember. And honestly Yensen... our first Hero 18:26 🤣you are priceless, we now know what you look like when excitedgiddynervous... one last smile, audible uncertainty, and then teeth gritting horror. 20:09 I loved my self debate on this. Combustion engines idle at about 10% so 10% seemed fine till he really flew into a wall. I think both Tony and I did not account for the weight of the suit that was not on. Trial and error segments like this in movies are always best. // "it's completely harmless" wow, anything really can be a weapon. 22:48 We love Dummy! lol 23:49 you'll remember....there you go, you said it. lol 31:50 my buddy Vince loves comically screaming this at me when he asks for something irrational(ly) and I tell him "i can't", ...or when i preemtively say "I'm not Tony Stark" 33:35 Our 2nd hero! ...We love Dummy! 33:50 It is called an Arc-Reactor, at least the big one is. The difference on the first mini reactor he made in the cave was, to function with the magnet that Pepper eventually pulled out and provide power to the Mark 1 suit "or power something big for 15min" was not enough power to continue thrusting from the caves. The 2nd mini reactor doesn't need the additional magnet probably because magnetism is already part of the new core and is to "power" more efficiently. You will see Stark make many mods throughout. And They're always so cool. 34:12 Remember that moment! 36:54 Hi Texas 2021! 39:00 Not as heavy with the Mark II armor but the core is still not as efficient as the new one which is why i believe it wasn't Zeroed out and flickered 40:12 And remember that! And truth be told it's not very common that you hear our heroes refering to their Hero names. This shattered the glass for me because I was always under the belief that Heros keep it a secret, its been that way since Power Rangers. I had to watch the next Iron Man. How does the world treat you when they know youre a superhero? I just had to find out. One more thing you should take with you in the MCU movies generally, Post-Credit scenes and Mid-credit scenes. Some Films will have multiple and I'm sure your subs can help you out on that. Best wishes!! Hope you and your viewers have a great time on this!

Great movie. The one that started it all . The man who Tony called Hugh Hefner is Stan Lee Rip. The one who created most of the most famous superheroes in Marvel like Iron Man. Look out for him in he appears on most of the Mcu Movies Also look out for the end credits in this movies. sometime they are two end credits scenes. I also recommend you see the Christopher reeve Superman movies at least 1 and 2. Superman the movie 1978 is the first modern superhero movie the one that started the all superhero genre.

One of my most favorite movies is the Iron Giant. I recently saw a small documentary on it and it said the original title for the book was The Iron Man. They changed the movie to Giant because everyone would be confused by the title and this Iron Man. When I learned about this this I can't help but notice the similarities in the two. You might like to watch it if you liked this story Stef.

Tony Stark/Iron Man is easily my favorite MCU character. The Captain America series is my favorite series. But this is my favorite single character film (Endgame is obviously my favorite of the entire franchise). They don't make them like they used to. And now I'm gonna say the most cliche thing out of this entire comment (and that's saying a lot), Downey was born for this role.

My dad read me the Lord of the Rings as a kid and helped explain it to me. And I've liked watching reaction channels for a similar reason - that folks spot things or feel things in ways i didn't. Someone in another Ironman reaction noted that the cheeseburger scene was personal to Robert Downey Jr. For sci-fi causing lots of feels, might check out Arrival.

17:23 the cheeseburger from Burger King was something Robert Downey Jr wanted put in the movie cause Burger King actually saved his life. He was on drugs and got a Burger King Burger and said it was so disgusting (he couldn’t enjoy a burger cause he was so high) that he drove to the coast with a car full of drugs and dumped the drugs in the ocean. He began studying Wing Chun and this movie really helped revitalize his career. Marvel had everything tied up in this film. If it flopped they would’ve lost all the rights to their characters.

Great reaction! I really liked this movie because it used the original comic origin story for Iron Man, but just updated it from the Vietnam War to the Middle East War. even down to Tony's fellow prisoner sacrificing himself to give Tony time to get the suit operational. Robert Downey Jr. was the perfect cast for Tony Stark. I don't think anyone else had had the life and personal history to draw parallels to Tony Stark that RDJ did.

There are a lot of references to future movies. Remember the name of the organization The Ten Rings. It will pop up again. They recast Rhodie. Terence Howard was replaced by Don Cheadle because of $. Btw how Iron Man started up is consistent with the comic book. Don't forget The Hulk movie which was released the same year. After you watch that you should watch the short The Consultant, its about 5 minutes. It adds a humorous bit of backstory to the after credits scene of the Hulk

When Nick Fury said "Avenger Initiative", it was a cue to all comics fans that there was a long-term plan with these movies. It's in the past now, but when the first "Avengers" movie was released, that was a triumph of collected stories! And although I think they've been on a down-turn, the Marvel movies up to Endgame were all amazing!

Remember, Stef--These were comic books long before they were movies, read by millions of kids and young adults. Everything you saw in this movie happened at one point in the comics series Stan and Marvel bullpen of writers came up with.. (Except for Tony going public with his big reveal--In the comics, he kept it a secret for years from even the Avengers and Pepper) With this kind of source material available, the MCU scripts/plots were already there, ready to be made for awesome big-screen entertainment!

Welcome to the MCU fandom! Some tips now that you're part of the family: -Not all credit scenes are at the very end of the credits themselves -Some movies have multiple credit scenes -Be sure to watch the other Marvel movies that are NOT part of the MCU like Tobey's and Andrew's Spider-Man movies, the XMen movies, and the Spiderverse movies. They all add to your understanding of Marvel overall and make the MCU more enjoyable, and the same people watching your MCU reactions will watch these as well

Oh and also, some context. In the late 90s Marvel actually started to go bankrupt, so to prevent it they sold the movie character rights of Spider-Man and his related characters to Sony and the Xmen/Mutants/Fantastic Four to 21st Century Fox. The contract says that they have to make movies about said characters every X number of years to hold onto these rights otherwise they will revert back to Marvel Studios, created in 2005 to make the MCU. This is why these other movie universes are NOT part of the MCU, which was thought up by Kevin Feige in 2005.

I remember the shock I felt as a kid with the opening scene, I grew up prior to seeing Tony stark as a very caulky but outgoing personality since I had first seen Invincible iron man and super hero squad, when I saw that opening scene in theaters I was beyond flabbergasted, just a whole crew having fun cruising around Afghanistan and the boom a head on ambush, I guess Favreau wanted to show what soldiers in Afghanistan were going through at the time, and not to mention that ransom video tape

8:17 if it makes it any easier, they didn’t actually stick the long hose up the actor’s nose. They did three shots: 1. A front view of the hose up his nose 2. A side view of him pulling the hose 3. A front view again, this time without the hose. The second shot was accomplished by attaching a small spool of hose to (the outside of) his nose, on the side away from the camera, pulling on the unwinding spool, then showing the front of his face again, letting you put two and two together.
