The Mazda 5 should be EVERY TEEN'S first car, in my honest opinion! Bought one for my daughter, for her senior year. Now in senior year of college, and she still drives it and loves it. Hers even came with a still-working DVD system with headphones and remote control!

I own a 09 Mazda-5. Great little micro van. Extremely practical and gets very good gas mileage.

The Mazda5 is mechanically a Mazda3. I daily a 2007 Mazda5 with a manual transmission. Engine went out and I swapped in a 2.5 out of a 2016 Fusion. Bolted in. Fantastic little rig, hauled a bunch of stuff in it.

love that Mazda 5. I used to own one of those. I LOVED it! at the time it was like a cross-over vehicle. I threw a bass cannon in that thing and took off. only thing I hated was changing the oil as it had one of those cone oil filters.

You could get those Mazda 5 vans with a manual transmission.

I'd personally pick the Mazda 5. I've known of that car for awhile but never owned one. Never knew it had van style rear doors or the rear folding seats. It's very user friendly in parking lots for general shopping that way. Decent interior space. And the right kind of quirkiness. I bought a Honda Element about a year ago out of necessity needing something cheap and fast, and fell in love with it afterwards. I finally understood why people loved them. And because of that, I see the lovable quirks in the Mazda 5 now. It's now on my radar to consider if I find one locally.

Randy if you can go to Dubai you might be able to find many mildly flooded cars for like 1/3 of the price. As there was a huge flood.

I have a Mazda 5 as my daily driver. It’s a great little toy van. Sliding doors are great for kids. I generally leave the third row folded down.

Awesome video Randy, I would go with the Mazda Tribute because I have a 2003 Mazda Tribute my grandfather gave me he bought brand new. It never gave me any major problems just the basic maintaince and runs like new with 225,5000 miles (nock on wood). It's a great vehicle.

That Honda Accord coupe is a perfect first car for the son-in-law, clean, reliable, a little peppy, don't got to worry about it getting dented, etc perfect first car! If it didn't have issues lol

Randy, I own a Mitsubishi mirage a 23. It's called the Black edition blacked out rims. Absolutely love that car. Excellent on gas. Nearly 50 mi a gallon had it for a year. Zero problems

Mazda5 is super common in urban areas. We have them all over the place in Vancouver - super practical little cars. Fun to drive, great on fuel. Basically it's a taller Mazda3 Sport.

That Mazda 5...it was like driving a brick down the road, as my dad described it and he's completely right, haha! I drove it a lot when I was starting to drive and its not great. Stiff, hard ride, eats oil (not leak, just disappears), cabin and wind noise is ridiculous, EVERYTHING is plastic, and seats wear on you after a bit of driving. It was peppy, i'll give it that.

Rented Mazda 5 a couple of times. Not much torque and quite low to the ground, but incredibly reliable. It was a nice alternative to the MPV

I love this Mazda 5 I have always wanted to buy one. I believe the final year of production was back in 2015. Very good on gas its basically a hatchback to the Mazda 3

I’m surprised with all the positive comments about the Mazda 5. lol I had two and both had issues with the suspension, rack and pinion, ac and hydraulic motor mount.

Hey Randy, how's it going? The A/C compressor on that Mazda 5 should be at the bottom of the belt, under the engine. On the passenger side near the tire, just in front of the axle area. Not a hard replacement, especially on the lift.

Get the Mazda-5 it’s more of a weird vehicle. I am sure Randy will like it. A Mazda Tribute as as the Ford Escape is common and probably easier to find.

My brother has a Mazda mp5 with a manual and that thing is pretty dang fun to drive

The Mazda 5 is a car I know well. Drove an 08 for several years and almost 300,000 miles. It was a wonderful car, almost no repairs, just regular maintenance, and was more fun to drive than it had any right to. 08 and better has rear air. The transmissions in those years are the weak spot, that is what ended up killing mine. I would be worried about that. I would take the 5 over the Tribute (Ford escape), in pretty much every case. But I would be worried about the transmission in this one. The rear seats all fold independently to give you cargo options it was a great small family car for my family of 5. I know, sales pitch over. It was just a really good car for me. :)

My 05 accord with the V6 also had that issue in reverse. It was always hard to go into gear with over 275K. No issues until the fuel pump quit 😅

The ford is an awesome buy, the ground wire going to the ignition is probably wound around the steering colum and is getting pulled when you trun the wheel

Those Honda v6 autos had a lot of issues. Doubt it was maintenance neglect. That dealer service tag on the key is a good sign it went to get service and they were told the trans was bad and traded it in. No flush is going to fix that. The ford truck would be cool to see cleaned up and painted.

My dad owned a 02 Honda Accord coupe and I remember it being in silver and im pretty sure hes still using it for work to this day.

Hello Randy, i had the same Accord V6, was such a nice car to drive and live with... but the trans is Achilles' heel of this car... way too fragile even if serviced properly with Honda ATF fluid. No other way than replace with a new unit, if you can even find one! i still regret this car today!

The Mazda Tribute is just a Ford Escape, Ford and Mazda worked together on those. Ford engine, Mazda Transmission. They're tough little things.

Transmission failures were fairly common on that generation of V6 Honda. The flashing lights give it away of a failed unit.

Sounds like one of the strut bearings is seized in that Mazda 5. That popping is the spring turning against the hat cuz the bearing in the top is set up tight.

I have a 2007 Mazda 6 and had to replace the AC compressor The Mazda 5 you were looking at could have the same problem that mine did.

Check the oil level on transmission!

We test drove a Mazda 5 several years ago, but it was really a bit small for us. I wish I could have bought one with the manual trans though!

Hondas of that era are notorious for transmission problems, it probably needs a full rebuild/replacement
