That’s fricken awesome! It’s good to see how a working professional does his/her job. So much to think about. Especially the lighting. Love the shot with the bubble centered on the spout!👍🏼

What a wonderful trip down memory way. Thank you! I spent so many days in the studio making minute changes to craft the image just so. Students have no idea of how much work goes into a seemingly "simple" picture of a product until they follow along and see for themselves. Bravo!

Scott your mention of how the client will bring bottles without labels and labels separately to get the perfect result for the shoot brings back memories. As a young photographer a couple of our clients were large consumer products companies that included toilet paper and paper towels in their product line. When it was time to shoot a new wrapper, the client would have half a semi-truck of product delivered to the studio. The day before the shoot the product manager would show up with a roll of the new wrapper design. Usually a test run from the printer. They (product manager and two or three of their assistants) would then spend the day hand wrapping rolls of the product to use for the various setups. Side benefit was they left all the product after the job. So we never had to purchase those consumables at the store. LoL

i have to say my pet peeve is showing up for a shoot and nothing is set up and i as a client has to answer all the questions of what are we doing all over again and sit and wait while the photographer sets up. So good on you for wanting to figure it out ahead a time.

I knew about doing product photos and the problem of labels being crooked, which is why lighting and shooting the label is often a separate undertaking and then it's added to the photo later. But I didn't know that blank bottles and individual labels are things that are sometimes bought for the client. It seems the client (which I guess even though an ad agency does the hiring, ultimately it's the brand that is the client) would provide those things for the photo shoot.

Love this content - both seeing the way you work with crew and how different gear is rigged and then adjusted is so useful. Could’ve potentially had a gopro mounted on the camera to capture the adjustments from the camera’s angle, but not important. Hope you can do more similar videos to this.

So good to see the inner workings of this! As someone who has only danced around the edges of product and still life work I find the setup and effort fascinating! Quick noob question if I may, what is the purpose of having these images…did you say you would try and pitch them to the respective companies after the shoot?? Or for you to be commissioned to do something similar in the future?

Fantastic video showing your process and workflow! Im curious, what is the need for shooting with warm tungsten lighting? And how does that warm lighting match with the cool white flash from the strobes?
@paulbennett274
@paulbennett274 5 ай бұрын
They don't! The tungsten lamps are just modelling lights to aid both the composition and focussing process and have no influence on the actual exposure.
