No joke. Did the first oil change on a "new to us" used tractor. Filter wrench slipped, and the filter strap crushed it. Had to use a hammer and punch to get it off. At the most, it should only take a little effort with a filter wrench.

I changed the oil on my old IROC the other day, and the shop that did some other work had done it last, and the parts store didn't sell a tool that fit it, it was too fat a filter, and I couldn't get a strap on it. I used a serpentine belt and bruised my knuckles trying to get it loose and still couldn't. I punched a screwdriver through and even then, it was tough to turn, it ripped the metal on the filter some. Makes me want to go back and slap those guys, they should have known better. Far from the worst they did, but that's another story.

Honestly I love Mrs. Wizard's development from being rather shy (much like the car wizard when he started out) to being an active part of these videos, and honestly a good talker. I just watched a video from Hoovie's Garage with Tyler brought the old, old Chevrolet conversion van to the Wizard shop. There was a huge problem with Mrs. Wizard's, 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport. The turbos from the engine were burning so bad, especially with the 2 L Ecoboost four-cylinder and other Ecoboost or turbocharged engines. You have to know what you are doing, when you are planning to buy a vehicle with a turbocharged engine, instead of a naturally-asperated or a normal engine. These engines with the turbo need a lot of constant maintenance and repairs and they are extremely expensive to get the job done correctly by a mechanic. Always do your re-search, prior to buying the vehicle that you needed or you wanted. Thank you very much for your co-operation.

@@matte8441 I'm also a mechanic and love the controversial brands. Mopar, GM, Mercedes for anything with a V8, but also love Toyota for mostly not being garbage lol. I have a 2000 Tacoma 3.4 and a 2004 Corvette LS1. The Corvette needs all kinds of little things including body work, but I keep driving it because it's fun, paid for, and mechanically sound. Doesn't even burn oil at 135k. The Tacoma is indestructible and nothing will stop it until the timing belt snaps lol. Coolant, ATF, brake fluid all new. P/S fluid looks okay. My mom has a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 5.7 that I love to take care of myself. I don't care about the lifter problems the 5.7 has. That thing is badass all the way around. Just don't idle it too much, and I change the oil with synthetic. No Hemi tick. She also has a 2002 Toyota Sienna that she had since brand new. I did a lot of work to that frickin thing recently. Valve cover gaskets suck on those. The old spark plug tube gaskets had to be removed with a large pry bar lol. Alignment sucked on both of her cars. The Jeep I had to align 3 times for it to finally go somewhat straight! The Sienna twice. It's definitely not the alignment rack having problems.

I had one in Australia for 3 years. Best all round car I’ve ever had, done some decent off-roading in it, mud/sand up to its axles and it was very surprising how capable it was, obviously you can’t rock crawl in it but it’ll do most stuff. And on the road it’s a great smooth comfortable car. And whilst on holiday, our underground carpark stacker flooded, it sat in around 80cm of water for at least a week, water above the wheels, and door sills, I feared the worst to say the least. Started first time, no warning lights, and not a drop of water got inside Never had a single problem with it.

Large rectangular stick on blind spot mirrors applied to the low inside corner of your door mirrors are your cure for blind spots, 6 bucks a pair. Do not get small ones and DO NOT get round ones,LARGE RECTANGULAR. I HAVE USED THEM FOR DECADES AND SWEAR BY THEM. Whenever I travel south from Michigan to buy a rust free southern vehicle I take two with me. Applying them is the FIRST thing I do after a purchase for the drive home. I drive sports cars and motorcycles and they are a must. I have not had an accident in forever.You look in them FIRST when changing lanes. The image is large enough that I use that mirror nearly exclusively. These mirrors eliminate the need to look over your shoulder thus reducing the amount of head rotation thus reducing the time your eyes are away from the road ahead. The problem with round blind spot mirrors is that half of the image is your own vehicle and you do not need that false information when changing lanes. You need to see away from your vehicle not your vehicle. Drive smart. Once used you will swear by them, guaranteed.

We put 250K hard miles on it and then gave it away when the transmission finally went. The fellow who got it put in a new/used drivetrain and as far as we know, is still driving it today. Applied to the lower inside corner of each door mirror does the trick. Whenever I travel from Michigan to buy a rust free southern machine I take two with me. DO NOT get round mirrors,half of the image is of your own car and that is information you do not need or want when changing lanes. When changing lanes you look in the blind spot mirror first. With the large blind spot mirrors the image is large enough that it becomes your primary mirror. Using the large rectangular stick on blind spot mirror on your passenger door makes it unnecessary to look over your shoulder. This reduces the of rotation of your head reducing the time that your eyes leave their forward driving position. "What car have you had that surprised you how dependable it was?" Couple cars come to mind. 1986 BMW 325e, 2.7 inline 6 with a 5 speed. Odometer had broken but showed over 250k miles. Still though, no leaks, easy repairs and overall a great set up. Other was a 1986 Ford Tempo with the 2.0 Mazda RF diesel & a 5 speed. Manual everything, no power options so less things to break. Got better fuel mileage than my Prius. *Side note* Found that adding a convex stick on attachment mirror to the side mirrors helps with blind spots such as was mentioned on the Land Rover passenger side rear. As far as the question concerning car reliability, I purchased new a 1986 Saab C900 Base model, non-turbo w/5-speed manual transmission. I drove it (between my son and I) until 2006 and put 165,000 miles on it. The only failure was a water pump when it was still under warranty. The A/C after 20 years was still on the original charge and ice cold during those 20 years. I did my own oil and filter changes every 2,000 miles with the recommended Castrol 10w/30 motor oil and OEM Mann oil filters. Everything else was maintenance items and tires. Sold it when my son went into the service and purchased another Saab!

Definitely didn’t see any fords at the factory in Halewood when I last visited! 🙂 Interestingly though the factory where the discovery sport is manufactured was originally established and operated by Ford of Britain. There are still some of the presses being used in the press shop to this day which were installed by Ford when the factory opened decades ago. The factory at Halewood manufactures the discovery sport and Range Rover Evoque, plus it has the largest press shop in the Jaguar Land Rover group so it manufacturers a lot of bodywork for other Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. It’s a really cool place and there are some fantastic people working there. Pleased your still loving the discovery sport too Mrs Wizard, our 2017 one runs superbly and we have had no issues with it at all. Happy days all round! 😊

Same transmission in my Wife's 2015 KL Cherokee. Return from extended vacation. Flat battery. My son buys a new (incorrect) battery. Apon driving, lots of weird noises from transmission. Jeep dealer said six to eight months until new transmission is delivered and $7-9k to replace. Towed the car to an independent FCA guy. Diagnoses and firmware re-flash....$300! No problems since. I figured it was software issue as there were no problems prior.

6:13 Wizard you are so right on this. I have a 2019 Camaro SS 6 speed manual, and when I bought it I admit to stalling it a few times just because it's a different clutch than I'm used to with my Honda Accord V6. Well, to my surprise, to start the engine you need to press the clutch AND the brake, even if it's already in accessory mode!!! In other words, I am used to being able to just clutch in and restart if by chance I stall with the Accord. You can even be doing 60 MPH and shut the car down (not that I'd recommend it), and clutch in to restart it at 60 without slowing down. The Camaro requires braking! I was actually going to hotwire the brake starter interrupt switch when I realized it's not like the clutch starter interrupt switch - it's a sensor that tells the computer the brake pedal is pressed, which also activates the brake lights! Why are manufacturers doing this????? I bought a manual transmission specifically to have full control over the car myself. Don't get me started on the electronic parking brake that will not disengage unless the engine is on!!!
@jamesarmenti8876

@kc9scott

As to why the mfrs are doing this, I assume your Camaro has push-button ignition. When you push the button (and it’s only a single button), the car’s computer needs a way to figure out if you want to turn it off, turn it on (with starter), or turn it to accessory/on without the starter. I agree with James that the best way to restart while moving (if the car’s computer will let you) is, while the clutch is pressed, push the button whatever way is needed to get the ignition “on” but not use the starter, and then in one of the higher gears, let out the clutch.
