This hybrid techniques is SO effective and I've dropped so many shots as a result. Hybrids are SO important in the game of golf but must be used in the correct way, if you do, then you will stop fat and thin shots! World number 1 golf coach Pete Cowen reveals the fastest way to stop fat and thin shots, and use your hybrid the SMART way! Most amateur golfers don't use hybrid enough but they need to!
This simple golf lesson on stop fat and thin shots will go through exactly where, when are how to use hybrids:
1. Long par 3's (but ball position is KEY to this so follow the steps in this video), hand position is also key.
2. Thick rough on fairways and difficult lies on fairways (set up is key to ensure you make good contact with golf ball and you TARGET the right area, as per thumbnail)
3. Shots just off the green, this is especially where Pete Cowen would like to see amateur golfers using their hybrid but you must have you hand position correct.

I play 3 thru 7 hybrids. I started playing these about 6 years ago and my scores have never been lower. So much easier than hitting irons.

Excellent video Alex on the effective use of the hybrid! A few years back, I ditched my long irons and switched to the hybrids. Now, I use them exclusively for trouble shots, medium length shots into the green, and as you demonstrated, a putter from off the green. They've saved me a lot of strokes since switching! Good video, Alex. This past winter I bought a complete hybrid set for senior golfers. I have a 3,4,5,6,7,8,9, and PW. With your hints I have improved my game a lot. In the last few days I have been hitting them even better thanks to your video last week that showed to move the front foot back a small distance from the line. Our season here in South Dakota is coming to a close, but I will keep refreshing my memory this winter by re-watching your videos. Thanks so much.

The set of clubs I bought last month included a 4 and 5 hybrid. Hybrids didn't exist when I played golf 30 years ago, so I'm still working out how to use them. This video was very helpful! Already liking them better than my long irons, which were always a source of frustration for me.

Great info, thanks! I'm recently coming around to hybrids, I have a 5H and 4H to replace my 5 & 6 iron (strong lofted irons). I'm a slow swing speed senior golfer so I tended toward fairway woods for the longer shaft but the hybrid cuts through the rough better. I'm going to experiment with chipping around the uphill greens. That could come in handy!

I use a 6hy, 5hy & 4hy in place of my 5, 4 & 3 irons. I love them. So much better contact and control and I also use my 4hy like a putter from the short fringe areas around the greens.

I bought one second hand recently, used it for the first time on Sunday, left my 3 & 5 woods at home! Worked a treat, loads more consistent contact and I bettered my best round by 8 shots! I even tried a cheeky bump and run from 20 odd yards away, again it worked!

3-6 hybrids been using 6 hybrid fringe around greens making running up easier for me. 3 hybrid has become my favorite in fair way.

Good video. Have just changed my old Callaway Rouge 3 H and Callaway Maverick 4 H to some Callaways Paradym X 3H and 5H. Matchs perfect to my longest iron which is a 5 iron.

Thanks. I tossed my long irons, oh, must be 15 years ago now in favor of hybrids or "rescue" clubs and they're my absolute favorite. No question about using it for your #1 and #2; I knew about long chips but not the grip/swing tweaks (thanks!) -- I'll try that more!

This is my first year learning golf. I have a 3h and 5h. I trust the straight flight of my 5h so much, I've started easing a smooth swing on par 3s anywhere from 130 to 160. I do hit down on the ball which causes the flight to be slightly lower and sometimes will not check up and roll to the back fringe, but for a high handicap like myself, it seems more forgiving on miss hits. I defiantly plan on trying a 7h next spring. 😄

I have a 7 wood in my bag for years, and it is my rescue club from the rough and my confidence club. After watching this I plan to buy a 5 hybrid wood. I also dumped my 3 wood for a 3 hybrid.

I have a full set of hybrids, from 4 to SW ... I don't use the PW or SW even though I can hit them, I just prefer the regular wedges ... I love the hybrids

I own 3, 4 and 5 hybrids. From time to time I swap my 4 and 5 irons for my 4 or 5 hybrids, depending on the course, conditions and period of year. I keep the 3 hybrid anytime in my bag since I no longer own or use a 3 iron.

I use a 3 hybrid and I ended up just taking the 3 wood out of the bag because the 3 hybrid was so much more consistent and almost just as long.. I also use a 5 hybrid for when it's a bit too short for the 3 but i'm not feeling confident with the longer irons.. Srixon Z 355 3 hybrid it has a nice big head, and a taylormade jetspeed 5 hybrid. Still prefer a 7 or 8 iron for chip and runs though.. nice video

I have a 4 22° hybrid for 200 yards and a 5 25° DHY for 185 yards. The 4 has been a revolutionary upgrade to my bag but I'm still getting used too the 5 😂 it'll go but my games not been great lately. Not enough practice at the range.

I became more consistent with my hybrids when I moved the ball back slightly. More towards my bottom point for my irons. I was to far forward towards my fairway wood bottom point ball position.

Use 3H instead of driver on tighter fairways and some par 4s. Use a 4H/5H when the distance makes sense. They do help shave strokes. Rarely use my 4/5 iron now. Actually, have a Cobra hybrid iron set that I play with occasionally and anticipate moving to that when older. Still love my M2 irons.

What is proper ball position with hybrid and where should one focus off the deck and off tee? Hit down or slightly up?

What hybrid are you using or recommend for the chipping around the green you showed. I have 3,4,5 hybrids. I'm thinking 5H is the what you would use around the green. I've used my irons a lot around the greens but will try the hybrid for longer greens.

Alex - great videos but you need to stop referring to the ground side of the clock as 12:00. It is for you looking down on it but from our perspective it’s 6:00 and the top, near you, is 12:00. Very confusing for us when you reverse it.
