Wait, wait, wait, you’re telling me that this kid (at the time) was convicted starting from a “mix up” of mugshots and having the same name? So there was literally NO physical evidence against him. And the detective LIED in court?! And the police KNEW they had the wrong Sheldon Thomas?! Let’s think about this: it took zero physical evidence to convict a person of murder. This is ridiculous. The detective should be imprisoned for perjury and all the others involved should be fired, stripped of pension, sued for false arrest and prosecuted for kidnapping.

Total outrage. Think of the perversity of power when one person of color can be substituted for another. Every case under that Prosecution's office needs to be reviewed. What consequences can be held 20 years after the fact for these Perpetrators of Injustice that masqueraded as Law and Order. Systemic racism.

Absolutely. Apologies are not sufficient. Those responsible should as soon as possible start jail time themselves and handing over enough of their assets so this innocent is paid 1,000 minimum for every day in prison! The government for their part should provide free higher education from best schools for himself and any children he has (and may that be numerous), a car and home in any neighborhood in his state and he and his family parents, siblings and offspring be forever exempt from taxation by government that failed him!!

20 years ago. Hard to apply justice in reverse against the perpetrators but systemic racism is still going on. One man of color knowingly substituted for another was something law enforcement got a kick out of. We have replaced lynchings with other injustices behind the badge and incarcerations. Systemic racism must be fought by all our citizens.

At the very least he shouldn't have to want for anything. He lost the opportunity of love, wife, and kids from a young adult age. That alone can't be compensated. True he could find love now but its NOT THE SAME. Give him a home that is nice and also paid by the State that prosecuted and jailed him. Set him up with a job in the Government with a base pay based on what you would expect a person to be making after 20 years on the job as well. At least THAT would be a start to making up for the wrong.

That's INSANE!! Putting aside the obvious anger over wrongfully being accused, losing YEEAARRSS from your life and experiences, the traumas of being in jail, WHEN U DONT BELONG THERE.. etc.. they KNEW WHO THE correct person was!! THEY KNEW! They weren't trying to just make it look like they solved the case by arresting "someone" (I'm not saying that's ok, it's just a situation I read happens a lot in innocent people wrongfully accused) THEY KNEW! and they still went forward with this. I can not imagine the anguish and frustration he went through. That detective cared more about admitting he was wrong than he did about not only bringing justice for the family or holding a murderer accountable, but allowing an innocent man to be labeled a murderer of a child, and wasting away unjustly in prison.

Love hearing these stories of innocent people being let out of those awful places but I absolutely hate what put them there to begin with.I have to say that I give this man hella respect for forgiving everyone involved, it's farrrr more than I could ever do,I wouldn't be able to let that go,it would just eat at me and eat at me until they got what I think sufficient, mad props to him for being able to let go.

And the cops who falsely (lied, committed perjury) testified won't be charged or held responsible in any way. That's shameful.

This is sad. Wow. I hate that he went through that. They should send him a very large payment, for the rest of his life! That's the least they can do!

The Detective who knowingly and willingly lied should be RETROACTIVELY FIRED and JAILED. Every penny that person received in salary and compensation should be returned because they didn't deserve a cent of it!
