My only bit of advice to add is buy a vest that allows changes in wgt. Waste of money to buy a 10-12lb vest and know you can handle more wgt a couple months later. I bought a very well made and comfortable 35lb vest and unloaded 16 lbs to start and added 2 lbs every couple of months. That allowed my hips, etc to slowly adapt. No injuries, no need to buy another vest.

Initially I purchased a bulky 40 lbs vest. Didn’t care for it too much. Then went to Marshalls I have the Reebok 20lb weight vest and I love it. Love using the vest alternating to give my knees, spine etc a break. I don’t use it on every walk to create variables. I’ll choose walking paths with inclines etc. I do a long walk (5+ mila and (2) 2.5 miles with the best during the week). The other days I walk without ans do a short jog one day. Additionally weight lighting at home 2-3 days a week. I noticed my body is overall stronger and over 3-4 weeks saw fat loss in how my clothes fit and how my body composition changed. I don’t bother too much with the scale because it can be discouraging when change is actually occurring

It sounds like you've found a great routine that works for you! Alternating between using the weighted vest and walking without it, along with incorporating inclines, jogging, and weightlifting, is a smart approach to keeping your workouts varied and effective. It's awesome that you've noticed positive changes in your body composition and strength over time, even without focusing on the scale. Your experience is a perfect reminder that consistency and listening to your body are key. Thanks for sharing your journey-it's inspiring! ~Liz

I do wear a weighted from the same company you wear. I love mine. It is specifically a 'woman's" vest as it allows for the bust area to be free of weights. The vest also zips and is adjustable and is very supportive. It makes a nice "big" difference.

It's not "almost making you stronger"? It is making you stronger. You're carrying extra load on your body. But better then the vest is light db's in the hands if moved. Checkout Heavy Hands by Dr. Leonard Schwartz, and Power Walking by Steve Reeves. Reeves hypothesized that a pound in the hand moving = 5 on the body. He would walk w/ hand weights, ankle weights, and a loaded dive belt in a very brisk cross-country skiing style.. So the answer is to do both. Start very light and progress slowly. Be sure to have a shoulder and wrist prehab program in place.
@5050DishGal15 күн бұрын
Carrying extra weight definitely makes you stronger. You might also want to try light dumbbells in your hands while walking-it's a great way to boost the workout. Just start light and build up gradually!

I imagine rucking is worse for the body, being in all one area and all at the bottom on your back, unless you stuff things in to pad the rucksack out but that would make it even heavier. Not convenient

I’m 71 with chronic fatigue and do well to do 1 mile about 4 times a week. Wonder if just for that one mile walk would help bones a bit but not hurt knees…. hummmm

I can't give medical advice, but it might be worth consulting with your doctor or a physical therapist to see if using a weighted vest could be beneficial for you. Sometimes small adjustments, like starting with a lighter weight, can make a difference. It's great that you're staying active! ~Liz

@@5050DishGal Thanks Liz. I do carry about 25 extra pounds on my body so although I don’t like the looks of it, guess it has its advantages. :) The knee doc I had in my 30’s, a tall naturally lean guy looked at me and said “you have to live your life skinny.” Never happened, but he was such a stickler about that, that’s why I questioned adding even more weight. But I’ll ask. Had a bad break of my femur 4 years ago and have never fully recovered, guess I’m in the 30% Peter Attia says are never the same, so do want to protect bones as much as possible. Thanks again.
