Can we please stop calling these “diets” or “fasting” when it’s obviously disordered eating and a real problem.

A decade ago, I was experimenting a lot for "fun". Water diets are more like cleanses and almost reset your body. But, some people will intermittent fast by the day. Eat Sun-Tue. Fast Wed. Eat Thu-Fri. Fast Sat (something like that). Not my cup of tea (pun intended). Here's the key though: don't mess with your metabolism over a long period of time. Caloric restriction can hurt a person in the long term. A person can go from eating 2000 calories a day without gaining weight to only 1500 calories a day if your body / metabolism downshifts. Always better to increase the exercise portion rather than just restrict calories.

A water diet for 72 hours, where someone consumes only water and no nutrients, can be harmful for several reasons: Nutrient Deficiency: Your body needs vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates to function properly. Without them, you can feel weak, dizzy, and fatigued. Muscle Loss: Without protein intake, your body may start breaking down muscle tissue for energy. Electrolyte Imbalance: Drinking only water without replenishing electrolytes can lead to an imbalance, which can cause muscle cramps, heart palpitations, and even seizures. Blood Sugar Issues: Lack of food can cause blood sugar levels to drop, leading to dizziness, headaches, and fainting. Metabolic Slowdown: Starving your body can slow down your metabolism, making it harder to lose weight in the long run. Dehydration Risk: Ironically, drinking only water can sometimes lead to dehydration if electrolytes are not balanced, because your body loses essential salts. Mental Health: Restricting food intake can lead to feelings of irritability, depression, and anxiety. Digestive Problems: Lack of fiber and nutrients can disrupt normal digestive processes, leading to constipation or other issues. Immune System Weakening: Without proper nutrients, your immune system can weaken, making you more susceptible to infections. Temporary Weight Loss: Any weight lost is likely to be water weight and muscle mass, not fat, and will probably return once normal eating resumes. It's important to approach weight loss with a balanced diet and healthy habits rather than extreme measures.

@@HKim0072 Immediate Weakness and Fatigue: Your body needs constant energy from food to function. Depriving it of nutrients for 72 hours can lead to significant weakness and fatigue. Electrolyte Imbalance: Within days, consuming only water can disrupt your body’s electrolyte balance, potentially causing muscle cramps and heart palpitations. Blood Sugar Drops: Going without food for three days can cause dangerous drops in blood sugar levels, leading to dizziness, headaches, and fainting. Metabolism Impact: Starving the body can slow down your metabolism even in a few days, making it harder to lose weight healthily in the future. Mental and Emotional Strain: Depriving your body of essential nutrients can affect your mood, leading to irritability, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating. Claiming that only longer fasts are dangerous overlooks the immediate risks and potential long-term consequences of even short-term extreme dieting. It's always best to focus on balanced and sustainable eating habits. Ignoring these immediate risks and focusing only on the dangers of longer fasts is a misunderstanding of how the body works.

I think many female idols give people the wrong idea of what looks 'beautiful '. But that is not their fault, that is the industry they are in. Some of their legs are so thin, I don't know how they have enough energy to keep up their busy schedule. I like to see idols with an athletic, healthy appearance. Not stick thin.

It absolutely is, but South Korean beauty standards can be quite rough at times... Water diets are also dangerous. Korean food is quite healthy compared to other countries' foods, so why these diets are "necessary" is beyond my understanding.

This diet is made by people who already have psychological disorders behind them. They call it a "diet," but it's an eating disorder. They are psychologically dependent on food deprivation. Many Koreans also do the water-fasting, for example they eat fruit and vegetables but don't drink for two days, to be dry (precisely). It's a type of diet that models and actors do even in the West. Don't forget that in Korea they have a very high sui*ide rate among teenagers.
@etherean369
@etherean369 28 күн бұрын
@@gustavsingh1547 yes! However I also remember a girl who went there for studies getting so stressed cause she struggled to find low carb foods. So I don't know if what I see personally is the a real représentation of what the average Korean person can afford to eat consistently. In my country we also face the same thing: you can only eat healthy in the village(ancestral home) and a healthy diet in the city is for upper middle class and above only. Foreigners only ever see the "healthy" stuff we are purportedly eating. Still, if it's a career necessity, maybe even taking a loan to afford healthy food may be an option cause these crazy diets will just destroy your body by the time you're 35.

Children should not be fasting to this extreme. Their bodies are still growing and their hormones are unstable. If I child/tween/teen insists on restrictive diets for health or vanity reasons, they should be under the supervision of the PCP. The normalization of anorexia boggles my mind. So many countries still have citzens starving to death every day and some countries have citizens deliberately choosing to starve themselves. Short term Fasting in adults is different and may not necessarily be deadly. It really depends on the approach. Water diets are dangerous, as several other commenters have pointed out. I remember several pediatric patients with anorexia. It was heartbreaking to be their nurse. My heart breaks for these children.

three days is fine. unless you are working in something physical like construction. office jobs, and news anchor where there is no physical need it is very doable. on hot days if you are planning to jog at least get some electrolytes from a sports drink. 3 days water fast is not going to kill you. the best way to lose permanent weight is to build muscle. you don't even need to do cardio. as more muscle mass in your every day activities you will naturally burn more calories. plus you make your bones stronger very important for females that have much higher chance of osteoporosis later in life. bigger engine you burn more gasoline.
