Also, quick rundown of each cinematic plus champion intro in order of appearance: 2009 - game trailer, these are some of the original champions release with the game, some of them have had visual reworks since this trailer - Annie (pre-rework), Master Yi, Nunu & Willump, Original Cast Line up. 2013 - first real cinematic we got - Twisted Fate, Fiddlesticks (pre rework), Ryze, Nocturne, Katarina (red head) and Garen, Tryndamere, Annie (post rework), Baron Nashor (Baron is not a playable character, but an entity on the map you can kill to gain a temporary buff) 2014 - everyones favourite original cinematic and is basically a 3D representation of a typical 5v5 on Summoners Rift (the map name) - Ahri (fox) and Leona, Katarina, Darius, Draven (Darius little brother), Zyra, (left to right group shot) Rengar - Graves - Ahri - Jax, Nautilus (big tanky boi) 2018 - this is the first world building cinematic we get about Ryze cahsing down the world Runes Stones in order to put them somewhere safe and out of reach. These rune stones are extremely powerful and beholders are easily corrupted by them - Ryze, Miss Fortune (Sarah Jane Fortune - Pirate), Nasus (egyptian style good boi), Sona (mute songstress), Trundle (big troll). The last creature we see with Ryze is believed to be a Watcher, one of the all powerful beings that watch the world of Runeterra, they're not good, but not quite bad either, but there is one that went bad (Vel'Koz) 2018 - mini trailer for some new champions that were released (you can also check out Champion trailers and Tales of Runeterra cinematics if you want more lore and world building) - Yasuo, Taliyah (Stone weaver), Ekko (dude, btw), Blitzcrank, Miss Fortune, Lucian, Thresh 2019 - arguably one of the best cinematics imo, but 2022 was phenomenal in graphic animation - Jhin (serial killer), Draven, Irelia, Camille, Riven, Sion (charging at Irelia), Karma (provided a shield for Irelia), Akali (ninja), Yasuo, Kennen (he's a creature called a Yordle, and Yordles are notorious for causing havoc where ever they go) 2020 - this one caused a wee bit of an uproar due to the lore of Demacia (the city you see in the first opening). Demacia has a law banning all mages, prohibiting all maguic and requiring the execution of mages found in the kingdom. Lux, the blonde you see, is Garens little sister, and they're fighting Sylas, a mage who was exiled from Demacia and cmae back to start a civil war and free the mages. Sylas used Lux to gain access to the city. Realistically, Lux would have been executed for doing this AND being a mage herself, but good ol' nepotism means she gets to live - Garen, Lux, Random goons, Ezreal (blond boi), Sylas (chains dude - he summons a sword, because his ingame ultimate ability is to steal other champion ultimates and use them), Caitlyn, Vi (Violet, but she'll tell you it stands for Violence), Kai'sa (purple lady), Urgot (crab dude), Galio (big statue dude). 2021 - this cinematic started the Ruination event that happened for the game. There were extra story lines, in game things to get and skins. It also introduced a champion release, Viego - Lucian, Senna (they are married)(Senna has a piece of Isolde's soul, Viego's queen who died long ago and was reincarnated), Viego, Samira, Darius, Karma, Poppy (Yordle), Vayne. 2022 - This cinematic is honestly the best in terms of visual detail, plus leads into the next event League had for its players, i was also the first time Rek'sai and Ornn showed up in a video and people went nuts - Ornn (God of the Forge), Sejuani (Riding Bristle, her drüvask boar), Taliyah, Kai'sa, Pantheon, Olaf, Voidlings (monster looking things in the desert - non playable), The Ursine (followers of Volibear, a god brought into being by his followers - non playable), Leona, the big beam that threw Pantheon off Mount Targon is believed to have come from Aurelion Sol (star forger and creator of the universe - he created Runeterra, but was then tricked and trapped into servitude by the watchers, he hates the world he created), Rek'sai (the original Mother of the Void) 2023 - basically a 3D flyover of Summoners Rift, the map you play on. This one is mostly disappointing because everyone was hoping for a another champion showcase like they'd done in previous years. We still don't understand what riot was trying to achieve with this one as past years have added lore, character backstory, or introduced new champions and parts of Runeterra or events that were coming up. This one has a few weapons in Baron pit, but apart from that, there's not really anything to it. It was released without warning while the player base was waiting for the new season to start, and sparked possibly the biggest uproar I've seen from a community that actually had an impact on the company. Riot has announced they'll be more transparent about everything they hope to achieve in the coming year and so far they haven't let us down. It's allowed them to communicate with the player base more, given us a heads up if a patch is coming out late, and explained why they've needed to drop certain projects and work on others. You can also look up a lot of champion lore on their website, and as of today (31/03/23), there's 163 Champions available to play, with the latest release being Milio (loosely based off latina culture).

Player base went down with the end of the pandemic.. same with tornament viewers. Also some resourses for valorant. But mainly they are probably putitng everything into arcane for now. I dont mind that as long as at world we get a good ceremony and song tbh.

@@Andrew-px9fjPlayer base size is irrelevant. It's still in the dozens of millions monthly. They've been putting just as many resources into Arcane for the past 5-6 years and nobody noticed anything so that's also irrelevant. The big thing is that many employees left in 2022 to start their own companies and make their own games (e.g. Project Loki) so they had alot of restructuring to do.

2023 cinematic doesn't exist and riot cant tell me otherwise

It was sort of debunked about Mageseeker being a Rogue-Like (I assume you watched Necrit's first reaction to it, he retracted his guess of it being a rogue-like once the website for it opened up, it may have been from an interview done at the same time as the website opening up, all I remember is Necrit saying he was wrong about it being a Rogue-Like). If you haven't seen anything about it recently, I very much recommend checking out the website. It has a lot of cool screenshots (Morgana being part of the story is going to be nuts if she's written anything like in the lore), shows more info about what we'll be doing as Sylas, even has links to the different Champions you'll find throughout the game.

If you were following the Riot News on Twitter or at least Necrit on KZfaq, you'd know that 2022 was a rough year for Riot because so many employees left, they moved a couple people from various teams around because of it, and had to make new teams from scratch. Despite that, they still delivered a new year cinematic. They tried something new and the community made it crystal clear that they *hated* it. We already know that next year will have a cinematic similar to Awaken or The Call because of this.

(part 2, I told you it'd be a huge wall of text) Then there's "Warriors" which uses an alternate version of the same named song Imagine Dragons made in collaboration with League some years prior. In it there's Luxanna "Lux" Crownguard, Garen's(big paladin guy from before) little sister, and Garen. They're from Demacia, and because of the Rune Wars, Demacia hates mages. Lux is a mage but hides her powers. The badass chain guy is Sylas, who was imprisoned as a child because he was a mage, but eventually broke out and is leading a rebellion against the corrupt leaders of Demacia who kidnap, poison, and lock up children just cause they were born with magic. It's a whole thing, which is explained more in the Mageseeker game that's come out recently. This shows a conflict with Sylas, his rebellion, and the Demacians defending that garrison at the Northern border. Then there's Ezreal, the blond guy with the attitude, who's a self titled adventurer. Goes around looking for artifacts and such. He finds the Tear of the Goddess, and taking it releases the seal that kept all those little void creatures locked up and is saved by Kai'Sa, lady in the purple alien suit, is from Shurima(think magical Egypt) and her village fell into a void rift when she was young. The void is very present in Shurima. She managed to survive by bonding with a void creature, which she now wears like a Symbiote suit, and she goes around fighting the Void where she can. Then there's Vi and Caitlyn. Caitlyn is the Sheriff of Piltover and an excellent sniper, and Vi is her partner and GF, who is an excellent hand to hand fighter/boxer and uses those big ass guantlets(Atlas Guantlets) to amplify her hits. They stop Urgot(Crime boss/cult leader who turned himself into a heavliy armed crab man) from escaping when his cultists try to break him out. Then there's "Ruination" which was supposed to be a big lore event season, but it was handled kinda poorly, but that's why that one was a bit out of place in the middle of the others. Still well done. Lucien and Senna are on their way somewhere when black mist from the Shadow Isles(spooky island full of undead after an event known as the ruination happened) appears. The guy they fight in the mist is Viego, the undead king of Camavor. He went to the blessed isles to save his wifes life, failed, and caused the ruination that turned it into the Shadow Isles. He's looking for the pieces of his wifes soul, one if which is inside Senna, to again attempt to bring her back. He can possess others(his in game power lets him turn into any enemy that he kills or helps kill for a short time) You see Darius again, this time with Samira(flippy lady with the sword and gun and eyepatch), a daredevil mercenary working for Noxus. Karma again(fighting alone in some kind of mediation garden), Poppy(yordle, which is a small magical race of, like, gremlin faires basically) who lives in Demacia and has a magical giant hammer(and yes, she is a playable character). She and Vayne(sunglasses and crossbows), who is super prejudiced against magic folk to a psychotic degree, lore wise(she killed her mentor/mother figure without hesitation because she used magic to save Vaynes life), work together to fight off the ghouls. Sadly, Darius and Poppy ended up not included in the event, as well as several other characters who's story should have had them heavily involved, but that's all part of the poor handling thing. Then there's "The Call". Starts showing Ornn, who is like a bipedal Ram, Forge/Hearth God of the Freljord(Northern lands with viking types), starting work on a weapon, which he vowed never to make again. It's meant to be forshadowing for some future stuff where the world is threatened and his weapons are needed, etc. The finished weapon at the end, though hard to tell, appears to be one of the in-game items you can purchase called Infinity Edge. Then there's Sejuani, badass warlord woman riding her boar, Bristle. She's leading her clan into the territory of the Ursine, the bear people, to get a magical pot that Ornn made which can keep her tribe fed and alive through a really harsh winter. The Ursine are twisted creatures made into the image of The Volibear(the sillhouette that appears with the lightning), God of Storms and Ornns vicious brother. She has Olaf with her, another champion, who is cursed by a prophesy that he'll die a peaceful death of old age. For his people, that's the worst possible outcome, and so he throws himself into fight after fight, joining Sejuani because she's a warmonger and so is always ending up in fights, to try and find a battle to die in. Lore wise, he's basically immortal because of it, which is hilariously the last thing he wants. Then there's Taliyah again, and Kai'Sa again. They ran into eachother while Taliyah was trying to find a safe place for her people. Kai'Sa saved them from some void monsters. The place Taliyah thought was safe is the ruined town you see them in. They get attacked by Xer'sai, and their mother(the big one) Rek'sai. Kai'Sa goes back to the Void she'd escaped to draw Rek'Sai and her brood away from Taliyah and her people. Then there's Pantheon(aka Mantheon, barrel chested spartan with the spear). He's from Mt. Targon, basically like Olympus. His real name is Atreus, and when he was younger, he reached the summit in order to gain power from the gods to fight off bandits and barbarians that were killing his people. Instead, the God of War known as Pantheon possessed him and used his body. Pantheon bit off more than he could chew against, basically a demon, named Aatrox(lot of lore there, this has already gotten too long). Pantheon died, but Atreus was still alive and spat in Aatrox's face while impaled on his blade. Still retains the power of Pantheon, but he's big on humanity and has a grudge against the gods, seeing them as assholes who play with mortal lives(he's not entirely wrong in this setting), and so he's going back to the summit, but he's stopped by Solari, sun god worshipping warriors. Their leader, and the woman empowered by the aspect(god) of the sun, Leona, who was in "A New Dawn" steps up to stop him, at which point he gets blasted off the mountain by a shooting star. There are a couple things that could have done it, but the likeliest source is Aurelion Sol(giant space dragon that creates stars and who was tricked by the gods of Mt. Targon and basically enslaved by them, but he's been breaking free bit by bit since the old God of War held his yolk so to speak and is now dead). Atreus had been having some confidence issues(stuff left over from the awful Ruination event actually) but at the end he gets his shit together and draws on Pantheons power again to blast off to go and face the Gods. Not much to say about the last one. There were internal issues which they didn't tell anybody about and so slapped together that lame shit and passed it off as a season cinematic. Just a high def version of Summoners Rift(the main battleground for League matches) with a voiceover reading off champion voicelines in a way that makes it vaguely poetic. Pretty bad start to the year, for most fans. They've at least been more communicative with the player base since, but when you look at all the previous stuff, and then this year we got that? Pretty disappointing. Anyway, if you actually read all that, cool, if not also cool, but hopefully you at least scroll to the bottom so I can once again endorse trying out Mageseeker(hack and slash action roguelike), Ruined King(turn based rpg), Convergence(metroidvania-esque platformer), Legends of Runeterra(card game), and also, watch Arcane. It stands on its own, very well done story, animation, everything, and it has a lot of info about Piltover and Zaun within the League universe as a nice cherry on top.

Tbh League is not worth trying in 2023. The game is so underwhelming in term of content and they abandoned the lore. I'd rather him trying out other League-related games like LoR or TFT.
