If it was a scam he'd ask for money instead of always telling everybody he already has enough money. For a scammer he's too close to the truth, there's more fame and money to be made if he'd scam for Ukraine like all the other scammers do.

I disagree completely. Even if he wants to write a book or make a movie out of this period of his life - that´s his right and why not benefit from everything that was going on over the past two years. Still I believe that he is telling the truth. As strange as the story is, all the alternative scenarios that everyone is suddenly giving.. none of them make sense. I find it rather disappointing that people start calling him a scam when so far all that we can and could see proves his version of events.

Gonzo has claimed to be married and has a child. I believe he said his wife was from Ukraine and was still living there.--correct me if I am wrong. My question is this, wouldn't Lira want his wife and child to come with him to escape the SBU, are their lives not in jeopardy,, too? For a guy who was arrested once and warned not to bad mouth Zelensky and Ukraine as a whole and then released, he acted quite cocky and went right back to the bad mouthing. Any normal person would have gotten out of Dodge. I never really trusted the guy, for me, he came across as a self-promoting , narciisistic, limelight-seeking fraud.

There is a difference from being an agent to an asset. I think the SBU has him by the balls.

Thinking and presenting like a scriptwriter is what makes him so appealing, but that doesn't mean he's not genuine. He probably understood he has no chance of escaping and made an example out of himself in style, so to speak. If anything should happen to him, it will be a story to tell that will keep you on the edge of your seat, just as he wanted.

Where one independent journalist is silenced for sharing views that don’t align with the mainstream narrative this increases the risk to every other independent journalist. If you care about having access to reporting that is not 100% propaganda don’t be so quick to condemn the man without evidence.

Agree with you, i used to believe every word that Gonzalo said but since his 3 last videos and Scott Ritter's comments about him, i think there are too much suspicious stuff going on. For instance just the fact that he's telling his story in jail with a smile is very strange.

This is the best, most accurate, take on Gonzalo Lira AKA Coach Red Pill, he has been grifting on the war. All the drama is for a purpose.

Re Gonzalo Lira. TBH I don't follow him much. IMO it's more about his personal opinions, than facts about what it's like on the Ukr. side of the conflict. He never speaks about how the sizable population of eg Greeks in Karkov are treated. IMO it's all very "fishy". Fact - journalists & others on the Donbass side of the conflict (Russian), who put anything into the public domain which deviates from the Kiev narrative, are put onto the SBU "Myrovorets" list with all their personal contact details & if a resident - relative's details. It's basically an assassination list, which calls for the governments of foreign nationals to punish their own citizens. eg Graham Phillips (UK) was sanctioned by UK - assets frozen while he was still in Russia. Similarly A German journalist, I forget her name possibly Anelina Lip.... was imprisoned when she returned Germany purely for her journalism. Farina, aged 13, Donetsk resident is on the list (interviewed by iEarlGray) for writing plays about the child's view of the civil war there since 2014. She's too afraid of repercussions on her relatives within Ukrainian territory to speak freely. I can't believe that Gonzalo managed to get away with producing his videos for so long, when so accessible on the Ukr. side. Re both his arrests, who filmed him being arrested? I've only seen a fraction of the footage available on the internet, but never seen footage of an arrest by Kiev authorities. His last 3 videos could have been filmed anywhere beside a major road. He says he made them so people would know if he got out of Ukraine or not. How did he upload them onto You tube? he couldn't take much with him on a bike, would he waste space with a lap top? Fact I read the 54 page document about breaches of human rights in Ukr. & the peoples republics of Donbass by the UN human rights dept - published 2021. Faults on both sides. Kiev authorities comprise Police, judiciary, SBU, & the military eg Azov, Aidan etc ultra nationalists of Banderist ideology. It was difficult to ascertain which of the Kiev agencies had perpetrated the most brutal acts without compunction. 3 cases of execution by immersion into boiling water!!! Sites of government agents' detention & torture places have been filmed as they fell under Russian control - horrific. I don't believe that the Kiev authorities merely incited other prisoners to beat him up - IMO they'd have done a lot worse themselves. His case was raised by a US senator - it's possible that with the internet outcry & involvement of Chilean & US governments. Maybe Kiev is frightened of the truth of its brutality coming out, & treats him with kid gloves. BTW he said in his last video that there was no electronic monitoring applied, & all his papers including his passport were returned to him. If this is true, I can only see it possible if USA or Chile had pressured Kiev into releasing him but they didn't want to "lose face" by escorting him out of the country = the legal way to deal with him. However if this hypothesis is true, the authorities would have allowed him across the border. Could be that the Hungarians have detained him - confirming his story or arranging transfer to another country - even Russia where his wife & children are. I have an open mind at present, with a lot of questions to ask. There may well be things I don't understand, or he could have fallen foul of the Kiev authorities & elaborated "a bit". I'm reluctant to label him as "scam" without hard evidence. As in all things, time will tell.

He didn’t ask for a dime to help him escape or establish any funds. In fact he made the point he’s been blessed financially and doesn’t need our help. He also definitely just got out of lock up, you can see it in the man’s eyes. Agree or disagree being locked up for your political speech is absolutely the most evil thing short of killing him any government can do. And if your KZfaq videos ever get you locked away in an Eastern European gulag, this isn’t the karma you want

When Gonzola Lira was supposedly released after his first detention he was grinning in front of the web cam, there was no sign of trauma or him had been abused, as if he had been on a holiday vacation. Is there any evidence he was in Ukraine like he said, maybe he has never been in Ukraine. Can he be a scammer cheating people's donations?

We think the Ukraine military is crazy to announce their plans weeks in advance. And here we have a guy spending an hour at a petrol station next to a busy highway talking about him going to illegally cross the border to Hungary at an official border control point. LOL. I was tied down spread eagle and my genitalia was smashed and beaten until my testicles burst and my genitalia was no longer recognizable. They use whatever they have available to do this, rifle butts, bats, hammers, etc. Very few gay men survived. Castro denied these camps existed, just like hitler denied his, then when victims escaped and the UN found out Castro admitted to them amd said he closed em all in 1968 to prevent a full scale invansion. Completely agree. I felt it's pretty strange that he would publish a video like that while 'not crossed' into Hungary. He probably already crossed and is now in hiding for dramatic value like Blair Witch Project.

It's good to be open minded and observe things from multiple perspectives, but I have to say that you didn't do due diligence in this video. Gonzalo is claiming that he is in such a terrible situation. If you want to cast doubt and call him a scam, you should give an extensive analysis of the evidence to support your conclusion. Saying "I watched his videos and I could tell that he was speaking off a script" is a very poor means of communication, given the seriousness of his claim. For example, how would you explain the clip of SBU arresting him at his apartment, if he was a scam? Was it a fake video? Then what convinces you to believe so? You have to be able to answer these questions to say what you are saying. I'm not criticizing you for doubting Gonzalo's report. On the contrary, I think it's very important to have room for such flexible thinking. But concluding that he is a scam, strolling in a neighborhood in a very casual video like this, shows nothing but irresponsibility for your word. This topic deserves a serious investigation, sat at a desk, with a series of evidence to show Gonzalo was faking his situation. Don't shame yourself.

I did hear about the dark side story of Lira from a few KZfaqrs who pay lots of attention on ukr/Russ war. I do want to follow up with that story. You sure are one of my favorite YTbers. I’ll do more research on this subject too.

I feel the guy is a bit sketchy but can't pinpoint what it is, he's been arrested twice!? You are making a video about this, do at least provide reason/s why you think his arrest is a scam... No?

I share some of the reservations about GL, but I also keep an open mind. I would not go as far as some have said that he is an SBU controlled agent. What I would say is that he is after fame and fortune, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, the first video which made me feel somewhat ambivalent about him was the one posted on YT on Sep 19 last year, titled "Notes on Being Unpersoned", where he said, with much regret, that he was denied a Wikipedia page. Many people outgrew Wikipedia a decade ago, and there are individuals who would rather not have a Wikipedia page. It was also clear from his many YT videos that he is not a political, let alone defence, analyst. He merely has opinions, the kind of which any person off the street would have. That he organised so many YT roundtables was intended to gather people who had some expertise. Not sure how much money he generated from those roundtables. But I was surprised that in his 3-part video to hear him say that he had $143k lying around in a PayPal account. Several things mentioned in that 3-part video were ill-advised. Overall, though I have some reservations about GL and what exactly is his agenda, I hope he is safe.

Even before Gonzalo was arrested the first time I had commented on my lack of trust of him. The point that is often made about people like him is "well, he tells the truth about,,,,". In most cases that means preaching to the choir and it is obviously the way to gain trust in some circles for nefarious purposes. There are many things about Gonzalo that raise red flags with me.

Thank you for your reasoning ability. I don't think anyone in the world should be arrested for an opinion. There were several "sex tourists" in Ukraine who (overnight) became "War Correspondents" (mostly on the so-called 'Ukrainian' side, some on the so-called 'Russian' side). When there is an war, there are no winners. Resorting to war is the most expensive and destructive way to acheive foreign policy objectives, and when you resort to war you are admitting that your foreign policy is a failure .... I have respect for Patrick Lancaster, who puts his life on the line and is a self-taught Journalist, whether people like his opinions or not. I STILL do not know what to think about Gonzalo Lira. (There was a Gonzalo Lira with a MIT thesis about the history of oil production in Mexico, 1976 ...) He has had success writing novels and making films etc., and has traveled the world and has the ability to live in various nations, apparently without knowing the language ... But I found it hard to believe that someone could be "trapped in Kharkov\Kharkiv" during military combat, with plenty of electricity, cigarettes, coffee, internet connections, and show no damage from shells and rockets landing in the city (although once in a while the horrible air raid siren could be heard, very briefly, in some of his videos, which magically stopped after he "closed the window" ...). My mother was in Dresden with her baby son when the Phosphorus fell. That's not how air raid sirens work ... I do enjoy Gonzalo Lira's commentaries, but even if I did not, I wish him no harm, or to anyone supposedly on "the other side" , whatever that may mean ...

Hi Gerry, I have my plane ticket for December, my hotel reservations are made and I even have my train tickets. I will be in Xiangyang, it is the railway crossroads, I will use the fast train to make a day visit to Xi'an, Luoyang, Kaifeng and Wuhan. I kept several days to visit the beautiful Xiangyang.

I think that Gonzalo Lira as of right now very well may be "watched" by the SBU, as he is in their hands and can't do anything against them spying on him, or luring him into things. Other than that I don't think it is productive to start accusing everyone of being a spy. Warning people of giving personal details to him, is a good thing, but trying to tarnish other people's names isn't the right path. Personally I don't like, that he is constantly cussing, but he fights for the right things. Someone may not like how he presents himself, but in the end he always said the right things. Staying alert is the right thing to do. As of right now Lira needs our help, be it prayers or spreading awareness.

I started questioning my belief in him when he claimed they put a tooth pick in the white of his left eye pointing to his right and there was no evidence of this in any kind of mark or scar seemed odd why he should say that when there was nothing to show .
