My son Iain died because of mental illness. We chose this song to play at his funeral. He tried so hard, but didn’t succeed, he got what he wanted but not what he needed. And I DID try to fix him! It’s as if it was almost written just for him! The most sad, yet beautiful song ever! 💔

This song helped my daughter reconnect and pull herself out of severe depression/suicide attempt/drug and cutting addiction (the darkest time of her life) and was our mantra... that was over 16 years ago... she has been clean ever since and I thank God every day that I was able to get through and reach her in time to help.... still one of our favorite songs!!!

I took my newly graduated daughter to her first concert to see Coldplay open their tour in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl. I was in tears at times watching the joy in her eyes as she sang along and jumped around. These guys put on the most amazing concert I have ever seen. Their live performance sounds as good as recorded. And the lead singer really interacted with the crowd. They even made up two Texas specific songs. Just an awesome band all around. Too many great songs to list here Polo. Just google their most popular songs to start. You will fall in love with this band!!! And see them live!!!!!

This song came on the radio right after losing my brother to a motorcycle accident at age 42; on his way home from work. The tears did stream down my face as I was singing along thinking of him & feeling him near, knowing he was in a better place & feeling like it was so wrong to lose him that way. There’s no doubt this song helped me through the grieving process & I can’t help but think of him every time I hear it. Thank you for sharing your heartfelt emotions & what this song means to you. Like so many here, I think of my adored dad. Such a strong, in charge successful man who loved flying. He had never been sick in his life until he had heart failure, triple bypass, he wasn’t the usual candidate for heart issues, he had always been very slender and was active. I watched him turn into this frail old man, this man who had been the centre of my life since I was born and who always fixed things for us, his children. Lost him December 2022, and I would wake in the night sobbing for him, as I did as a child when our mother made him leave after one too many affairs. I clung to his leg, screaming like the 5yr old I was, begging him not to leave ME! I was 62 when he died, and I felt like I was 5 again. You feel so helpless and can do nothing, and just to top it off, our narcissistic stepmother didn’t even tell us where his body was. It was overwhelming for us. Love and miss you my precious and loved dad. 💔

I first encountered this song in a documentary called Young @ Heart, all about a choir for the elderly. A lovely old man in his 90s, sang this song on an oxygen mask, and died shortly afterwards. You cannot imagine the level of emotion he managed to infuse into his performance, singing about igniting your bones days before being cremated, about to become something we all lost that we could not replace. Tears were streaming down all our faces. Yet in that same moment it was still an act of joy and celebration. Fascinating documentary if you get the chance to check it out, please do so. In terms of other Coldplay songs, I recommend Paradise, which is an anthem for immigration and the disappointment of growing up, and Christmas Lights, which is about the futility of trying to repair love with money, and how life goes on anyway.
@bonzolvr3 ай бұрын
I was coming to comment on this as well. Young@Heart was the first time I heard this song too. I still think it might be even better than the original. As I recall, one of his best friends (and fellow chorus member) had just passed when he performed the song, which added another layer to the lyrics.

This is the theme song of an eleven year long relationship I had with a guy I really loved and who loved me. We had great chemistry and all the right stuff was there, except for his addiction. I tried to fix him and at times it seemed he was fixed but the demon of addiction always came back. I finally had to just walk away literally with tears streaming down my face. He told me to listen to this song and particulary the lines: When you lose something you cannot replace, Tears stream down your face, I promise I will learn from my mistakes. I had to get on with my life and another relationship but he still calls me occasionally and we talk about how we were together. We both suffered a great loss but there came a point where there was no going back. He picks up a woman here and there but has never had another committed relationship and says he never will. He still struggles with addiction. I will never be able to hear this song without feeling the sadness of that loss.

Bought their debut album in 2000. Became a "fan" of their music. Then the world discovered Coldplay, and that was the end of that. I realized he sings like he's having a COLD, and out of tune, specially live, I couldn't unhear it. Works great on songs like "Yellow". But really grinds my gears nowadays when he opens his mouth, let alone starts singing.
