'I was completely off': Djokovic concerned bottle strike may have affected performance

Novak Djokovic says he will undergo extra medical tests after being struck by a water bottle during a defeat in the third round of the Italian Open.

The Serbian had been signing autographs on Friday after his second-round win over Corentin Moutet when a metal bottle fell out of a fan’s backpack and directly on his head. After the initial blood and nausea, Djokovic said he had felt fine on Saturday as he returned to training, even entering the practice court jokingly wearing a helmet. On Sunday, though, he said he felt like a 'different player' as he was defeated 6-2, 6-3 by Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo, the 29th seed.

I remember watching this matching thinking what on earth is wrong with Novak? Not knowing about a flask hitting his head. No wonder he was not with it, I knew someone who hit their head and lost memory , just cm away and maybe nothing, our skull is so vulnerable . I hope Novaks not got any lasting issues…

According to the reports it was said he was checked medically and was fine to play his next match. I would think you got hit in the head with a metal bottle, some sort of scan is necessary.He wasn't given proper medical advice. Not agreeing thats why he lost though.🤔

It was empty but still is it is metal and heavy. But i dont think it might effect anything but 3-5 minutes pain afterwards.

@@Sh4rpN i have seen other video and i had similiar one which was heavy. It is no suprise that it fell down because it it eqsy to fell down if it is heavy but if it is light as aliminium then it stays there if you put deep into backpack socket.

Sadly, I have not watched the match but I saw the highlights. Tabilo foreheand was pretty strong, backhand too. It looks like that was the reason for Djokovic to lose in straight sets. PS Novak, hit your head on the other side maybe “the old player” will return.

Some of these comments are maddening, Novak never had any break chances, this was one of the worst he's ever played so this is likely not just regular decline or lack of motivation, something was off, probably a concussion contributed to loss. Novak is no the type of player to lose this decidely unless there's something serious. Give the GOAT more respect!

No body is denying anything lol. His excuse for the loss is laughable. Instead of giving credit to his opponent for playing well he’s being a drama 🫅, prima donna. He was assessed for concussion and was fit to play, if he really didn’t feel like 100%, he could have withdrawn from the match. After losing the match he just throwing excuses. The hard part for most of us to digest is how someone who is a 🐐 at this level in men’s tennis is acting this way with no maturity or sense of real appreciation for his opponent!

I love Djoko, but he does love an excuse for losing. Admittedly he is not 100% fit mentally and physically which is going to effect his performance , but he will do literally everything he can to take away from his opponents performance.
