I was out delivering meds in a low-slung work car on that Thursday. Got 'beached' on snowdrifts twice. The wind just made the snow worse. Your video says it all. Hibernation would be a great idea! And we had 1/2 in. ice under it all! I was so happy to see Friday arrive!

Watching from France. I'm a fan of trains. I travelled to many European countries by this means of trans portation. I enjoyed each time seeing the country side, visiting towns and cities. In my teenage years in Nigeria, I sometimes go to north of Lagos, former capital of my country to see diesel locomotives bought by Nigeria Railways from Canada. Here in Europe, I still do train watching, especially the goods/logistics bulk carriers. North American : US / Canadian locomotives horns are wonderful synphony to hear. Watching vidéos when they're cruising through the canyons, tunnels, Valleys, thé wilde pin trees and snow. I appreciate, well done.

I remember scenes of driving in snow conditions like this from my younger days. Thank you for the memory. I always carried chains, even with 4-wheel drive. I don't go out in the snow at 82 years old. My Mustang is afraid of getting stuck, even with chains. I wait for a friend with a snowthrower or the rain to follow. Stay warm and dry.

As you were saying, without them, there would be even more empty shelves and it's clearly the truckers have more than they can handle. We need to build more rail's. So many have been removed or abandoned. It sure would give the truckers a needed break and keep our roads, as bad as some are, a break too.

Born and raised in the South. Our snow is different for two reasons. One, it is usually wet and slick. Two, we get snow infrequently and with transfers from further south with no snow experience they do not have a clue. FYI, many of the snow wrecks often have NY tags. Southern snow is just different.

It’s also really helpful to see trains running in these conditions and to understand what it’s like having to work on a job like that! Trains crew are required to be on the job regardless if the weather is harsh or not. I’ll tell you that in where I live in Tennessee, the weather can be all over the place especially during the fall season. East TN, to be exact has unpredictable Weather every year to the point where it hardly snows most years. I’m pretty much used to all weather conditions thanks to where I live. The Q008 you see is twice or three times the size, that we see as it leaves Rose Lake and runs across Illinois, some times only one engine and never has a DPU. So somewhere between Indy and Buffalo they must add cars. On the other hand Q007 is imes a good size train, always with two or three engines, if needed with the third unit on the rear, but never mid train..

Yeah, in many parts of the country, including where we live in MD, snowfall is always measured in inches. Buffalo usually measures their snowfall in feet! I've been out at trackside on cold and even snowy days on foot in my younger years before having a car, but nothing like what you're experiencing to catch some local train action. Makes me shiver just thinking what that conductor is feeling out there.

I grew up in Utica, now I live in Virginia, and you're so right about folks who don't know how to handle driving in snow. When it does snow here (nothing like up your way) I don' like to go out, not because I can't handle the roads, but the other people don't have any idea of how to handle it. Unfortunately I Do have to go out in it, as I'm doing my part in the supply chain as a trucker.
@purplealice

My best friend from college grew up in New York City, and now lives in Dallas. It drives him crazy to see how the Texans are total idiots about driving in bad weather. My dad was a trucker, and he grew up in Maine, and when he was old enough to drive he learned how to handle all kinds of weather and road hazards. And he taught me how to drive safely - and other skills I'd need as a driver (changing a tire, jump-starting a dead battery), because he wanted me to be safe whenever I traveled. Though he was a trucker for a living, he was also a rail fan, which is how I know a little bit about trains - it always bothers me when one of the trains you take videos of gets the horn signal for grade crossings wrong (I know it's short-short-long till he's past the crossing-short).
