I so needed this video right now . My husband and I are struggling because his pride and ego won’t let him accept our 9Yr olds diagnosis we got 5 YEARS AGO! I’ve adjusted my life to make it “ Ryan friendly “ as I say and I educated myself .

My sweet baby boy (2 years old) just got diagnosed with ASD 3 days ago. After the long hours of evaluation I just sat in the car and cried, I’ve never cried in such a way. My love and patience only grew more for him. It’s tough but you gain a new perspective.

Autism is not a disability. Right now you can see it as having blue eyes. Do you know how much persones are now diagnosed with 30 or 40 years old as having autism? More and more persones are diagnosed. It is good that your son was diagnosed in such an early age. It is a long way and hard.. But now you can help better and have a different perspective. Have strenght. And God be With you.

My best advice is... Have patience and accept him as he is. Show him, tell him. It will help him along the way. Specially when he is older and he is facing social situations. Belive me.

Thank you for sharing this, I love hearing a father's perspective. My husband has dealt with our autism journey a bit with me but primarily handles it on his own. I do hope he finds others that he can share and relate to because I think it's so important.

I am a first time mom to a now 3years 3months beautiful boy. I am going through exactly what you dealth with. Your videos are the only ones on the topic that I can relate to and resonate with me even the dads perspective is us now. But sharing where you are now sort of brings me to where you are now also for my family if that makes sense. Thank you so much. #socialmediaisn'tallbad

I really love this video! It is just how my husband and I have been. We're originally from Manchester now iving in NZ and haven't got the same support network as back home. Which has been tough when you're going through this worry. It's our youngest boy of 3, so I noticed things quite early and would Google every little thing. My boy is 15 months now and have a ped app in 2 weeks hopefully get hearing test but I'm my heart I know. When I would talk to my husband about it he would dismiss me, as do most of my friends. Thankfully my husband admits that he is just as concerned as me. Thanks for the video and your perspectives 💙

I am at the start of this journey with my now 13 month old son, its so hard but thankfully the paed agrees with me and has reffered him to early intervention. Im hoping that because he is so young, and we cant start helping him early that the outcome will be good. But like you I'm also a huge googler and I'm a big worrier too, thinking way to far into the future worrying and crying at the thought of him never being able to say mama or tell me that he loves me. It breaks my heart. You are both amazing parents, and I love your videos, keep them up d

Yasmin Bailey same here, my son is 13.5 month, already having speech and occupational therapies, but unfortunately, i dont see improvements. His receptive language is also bad, he doesnt understand us at all. We saw developmental ped.,and he said daniel is still young for diagnosis, so we will see him again at 18 months. He is non verbal, doesnt even babble

Hi ladies, keep teaching loving and supporting your boys, its gets harder and better in waves but I promise their progress especially since you guys have started intervention this early will help them to be the best they possibly can be and if its "nothing"then no harm here. Keep reassessing the interventions are appropriate and above all you are the absolute best for your kids. Have some fun too! Fun is always good and a great learning experience.

How did i not get this notification! Lol at not divorcing him just yet! I totally feel you! It was so lovely and well presented your husband's points and I love that he was honest, thanks Mark! When I realised my son's development was starting to look atypical its been a constant mental tug and war! But as you say it does get better and worse and better 😉 My husband and I have only always wanted for our son to be happy, healthy, to find and follow his passion whatever that means and for him to be a good person. Once I had a developmental paediatrician ask me what i wanted for him and after telling her she made me realize... thats exactly the same path we are on, we just may have to find different routes to ensure we guide his path. Its hard though accepting the difficulties and differences your child may face, but I find if we dont focus on those all the time and focus instead on the other beautiful and amazing things, that helps us to stay sane and happy and healthy and I too think what ceiling? Anything is possible.. aim for everything! 2 different parenting journeys is right! I realized recently that I have been unconsciously absent in that though my youngest is quite advanced, she needs me to cater and parent her with as much emphasis on her needs as I do my son. Sorry for the long msg but hoping this may help another parent as well and you too! though I think you got this covered! See you next week! #youtubedontmesswithmyNOTIFICATIONS!

And you're so right about juggling siblings' needs too. It's a constant balancing act! No wonder I'm ready for bed at 8pm haha x

@@NurturingNeurodiversity The developmental paediatrician shared with me a story she was told on her first day entering the DM2- Specializing in Dev. Paeds. She was told of a pregnant lady in her last trimester who had planned on going to France to have her baby. Everything was set and this was her first child. She had so many dreams of having her child in Paris..... months of plans and all that having the baby there would mean. While on board the Aircraft she learnt that they would have to go to Holland instead. Extremely Devastated she dreaded getting off the plane... they got to Holland. Disappointed and by now depressed she had her baby. But after some time she looked around and realized that there are soooooooooo many beautiful things about Holland. Depending on where you are in the mental phase of your journey, this story can mean everything. I pull back to it at times, and sometimes i even think well we can always visit Paris 😉

Thank you for this video. My husband and I have a beautiful little boy who’s 22 months old. I noticed he was developing a little differently at around 8 months. We’re awaiting a referral for his official ASD assessment. I’ve sent this video to my husband to watch, as it’s so helpful! We’re currently talking about trying for a second child, and our conversations seem to have been focusing mainly on how we would cope with a second child with ASD and not wanting to ruin the special time that is pregnancy and new born stage worrying about it! It sounds awful typing it out and reading it back, but it’s hard not to worry about that scenario. We both agreed that we wouldn’t change Rupert for the world and if we have another ASD child, we’d feel exactly the same as we do with Ru. Sorry for waffling! You’ve got two lovely little boys!! Thanks again for the video, Gem

So many things you said are spot on. My daughter is 2 and autistic. My husband is pretty much like yours. But over that I live in his country and do not speak the language nor I have friends or family. I have no support. I had abusive parents and I was locked almost at home. I was weird and people laughed at me. I worked so much on myself but still. Now I am worried my daughter will live my life. I feel my jinx is continuing with her and I just wish I die.

The biting... such a good question! Is this a typical action for a child with autism..??? Our daughter is autistic recently "diagnosed." I think I have known for some time. She will be 3 in three months and I knew before she was 1. However she is my 1st and I suppose I just was waiting it out as not to jump to something in case I was wrong. She is my world and I love her no matter what. I fear she may be smarter then I and will likely grow to be taller then me someday (haha) but I would not change her for any reason in the world. I apologize for the tangent.... So the biting...? How do others deal with this..? Our daughter really only ever bites me and she stopped for almost a year and has just recently started again.

@@jackelynyoung748 have you learned any more about this...whether this is something found with autism. My guess it's an expression of thier frustration not being able to communicate thier needs....I so hope you and your daughter are doing well💛

Another lovely video. So much that resonates for me (including having a very happy family life and so much fun and joy in our house!) Our son was only 10 days old when we were told our daughter was probably autistic and in a weird way I worried about him more (because I already knew our daughter and her strengths but this tiny baby could have very challenging problems or none and that made me so paranoid). The combination of not having autism well explained, our own lack of understanding and extreme sleep deprivation and hormone fall out of a newborn is pretty powerful stuff! My only regret I think is that it was such a distraction from his babyhood. I totally agree that I wouldn't change either of our children, just our own attitudes and ignorance. In fact our son is in many ways harder to parent than our daughter, being a crazy explorer and thrill seeker, despite probably being NT! All our kids, neurotypical or neurodiverse, are different and need different parenting, as you so wisely say. I wish I'd understood that better, but I am learning so much now!

my son is 3 and diagnosed with autism and the hardest part for me is the apparent non-listening (along with being non-verbal). You keep talking and he does not turn around. Don't get me wrong; there are moments when he does turn around but naturally he just keeps to himself and is just hyperfocused on what he is doing. It seems like he is deaf. I can break a glass cup behind him but if he is hyperfocused on something, he would not turn around. It is disheartening because how are you supposed to learn from others when you are so concentrated on something else. Does anyone have any insight if this gradually fades as your child matures or is it something that really doesnt change?

My son was the same at 2. What worked for me was sitting beside him and talking about the thing or toy he is focused on . Gradually he started listening and following directions. Don't get frustrated just try to enter in his world and gradually show him the way to our world.
