I recently found a unique helmet that turns my primalist's summoned wolves into squirrels and doubles the number you get. ARPG equivalent of a chatterfang deck, needless to say I'm loving this game

Found UNique gloves litteraly Called "Punch of the Falcon" for the Falconeer... Gets +3 to Falconery and Ardent strike +4% dmg Per lvl of Falconeer if you have no weapons in hands You and your Falcon deals Fire damage if you have no weapons in hands. I mean, its amazing!

Necromancers in arpgs are so looked down on, everyone saying its a "walking simulator" but its so insanely satisfying to see your horde of zombiew mow down the enemies.

It kinda is until you need to micro to live and your build gets better. I currently have a kamikaze army that infinitely respawns and dies as long as I play correctly. Definitely do more than walking now lol

tbh it has been a very long time since "walking sim" minion builds were really the norm. Like, a very long time. I can't actually think of any game in the past ten years where it is the norm. It's not in Diablo, it's not in LE, it's not in PoE, so what is it in that's popular?

Just on the topic of system use / placement within game design, I'd offer to restate your intuition, to say that systems should not be created for their own sake (yet often are). Systems are best used when they grant players agency in solving problems. Ideally they should fit thoughtfully into the overall aesthetic and philosophy of the game or parent system.

RE: the Transfer Materials button discussion. I think there's also something to be said of the way it improves the pace of the payoffs for your efforts. If they went straight to the forge, picking up shards and glyphs would begin and end as a "popcorn" sort of satisfaction, with small bursts distributed across the play session relatively evenly. With the addition of the Transfer Materials button, you get an additional large burst of satisfaction when you see stuff like "+60 other shards sent to the forge" later into the game. It allows them to double-dip on the enjoyment the player gets from one of the more common and useful types of loot.

47:07 I literally stopped hanging out in the Day9 gamedev discord because people would not stop backsesting my projects. I was just trying to learn, and they would just not stop aggressively suggesting all kinds of optimisations that I wasn't interested in. Just wanted to do it my way and learn from that. Couldn't be done apparently.

I played this game a few years ago and really enjoyed it, HOWEVER: it was NOT ready for any sort of remote/multiplayer mode at the time. there was ZERO security when it came to editing saves, i was able to completely exploit the item database and make custom items just by altering database values, nothing was secured or checked. I do hope they've improved on this in the past couple of years, but I'm very speculative on whether or not they will manage to keep their game from being heavily exploited in online play.

I liked the experimental boots you switched out for the Lessons unique; Lessons screams "BLADEDANCER!!!", but not as useful as teleporting 2 minions to you. Had a similar setup with Fury leap on my beastmaster, and having two wolves and a raptor jumping into your area after you do is just mean. Currently enjoying a swarmblade with mass elemental procs. And a scorpion. Highly recommended. The only annoying part is the leveling process, because it takes 20 points of primalist passives and another 25 in druid to unlock. Would write ten more paragraphs but I just finished dinner and am ready to push through early endgame, which has so far been fun.

Whoa a summon necromancer style class with a large and yet distinct army of minions that doesn't die in a hit and doesn't feel like ornamentation on an ability? Seems pretty good. Man it's too easy of a D4 shot but in all seriousness this feels like an actual army. EDIT: holy shit the way your dudes encircled you upon loading in...what a small detail that's fucking sweet.

Im not 100% sure but I think once you transfer Materials you cant trade with other people. Think that's why it gives you the option

This is the only reason I can think of for this function. It’s not a very good reason. Like, you’d have to be paying such close attention to the affix drops to detect 1 that you want to trade. They loot as a group, which makes that close to impossible. Ultimately, I think it should just loot straight to transfer. Unless there is some other reason we aren’t thinking about.

This is the way a necromancer is supposed to be played. As many minions as possible. I'm currently running a cold minion build with Frost Golem. It's cool. You should craft early though just to get some practice for late game. It really helps getting your gear up to current level even if it loses crafting potential. I just makes the leveling experience easier. When I first played the game a couple of years ago, I was too scared to craft and my character kept getting weaker and weaker. Just craft now and then replace the gear later and then craft on that gear. It's easier than I thought

what's exciting about this game is how good it is day 1. Diablo 2, starcraft and many other games I'm sure were not the way we know them today when they came out. Games like this take time to get a few patches and get into their stride. D2 didn't have cube, runes etc in the begining

one thing i found is that its so hard to tell what items are good, especially with minion as you cant tell how much dmg they do. I always have these inventory filled with item and i'm like fuck it sell all xD

you should utilize a lootfilter. most items are not supposed to even be picked up. ofc first you need to understand what stats are good for you though.

Depends on what you mean by "screw over." A publicly traded company making games would have a board of directors that weigh sustainable growth and profit heavily. Oftentimes, what is deemed safe and profitable and a fun experience for the player are antithetical. Decisions are sometimes made that alienate a small portion of the customers to appease a much larger base. But I think there are very few studios out there - certainly large ones - deliberately trying to screw their paying players. You need to elaborate on what you mean specifically to discuss it further.

That gollum game? Wow? Overwatch? Early access? How about all the execs and companies that came out against Larian, pushing down expectations for future games and even suggesting they got lucky. Because God forbid a triple A company makes an honest quality game. How bout the fact games cost 70 bucks these days? They charged us more just cuz they could. They've done it before. How about that exec talking about "gamers will have to get used to not owning games?"" A future where physical copies don't exist. You purchase a digital copy, and they can take it away whenever they want. A game you bought, you suddenly can't play. There is a name for diablo clone like games. Its Hack&Slash. HnS for short. Calling this type of game ARPG is some weird missunderstanding of how diablo was created. Diablo was created as CRPG game. So Role Play Game on Computer. But creators want less thinking about turns and other D&D mechanics and make it more... real time. So they chance C for A and make Action RPG. But later this term was acurate to other games. So term HnS was forged. I cannot understant why people stopped using that. Its almost like coming back from calling games FPS and again calling them Action shooter or Doom like.

I absolutely disagree with what you said about Blizzard and how they make games. Nobody in Blizzard (who has the decision-making power) plays Diablo 4. Blizzard's CEO has no idea about HnS because he never created them, nor was he a passionate HnS player. People who play D4 during interviews etc don't know the basic mechanics of this game. The management board needs months of feedback from players to make changes to things that beta testers immediately saw were problematic. Blizzard recently announced a new "fear" mechanic because it's cool, dark and edgy. And Diablo fans went crazy because no one likes such mechanics and it will only make the game even worse. And it's not just about Diablo 4. Diablo 3 was terrible when it came out, and now it's barely bearable. WoW has been dying for years. Overwatch 2 is one of the biggest failures in recent years. Warcraft 3 reformorged is one of the worst-reviewed games in history. Blizzard hasn't had any success for 6-7 years.

I got last epoch yesterday, but tbh I dont like it that much. Seems like an okay game to me. The graphics are strongly reminding me of diablo 3, maybe a tiny bit better. I like the skill system, which gives you a lot of options for how you wanne play - but I dont really get why you can only have 4 Spells in your bar... I also played the acolyth and went for necromancer mastery therfor spells like bone golem and summon skeleton seem like a waste of "bar space" to me. Also the game has a horrible story and even worse story telling - which gives me like no motivation to do anything. The story is only told in like very short dialogues, which are not very well voiced and take ages to get through due to low text and speech speed. While the levels look nice I am getting no immersion from this game. Am I the only one with that issue ? Also there seems to be no way of zooming out, or did I miss something?

All these D3 clones look the same in terms of action. Theres no thinking outside the box. With the ability of these gaming engines, all manner of effects could be achieved. Yet they do the same boring energy blasts. Same mechanics, same flash. Why not lean into the horror and focus on making dynamic blood graphics like in Doom? I'm not saying it has to be like that. Its just an example of how they could show power in a different way.

Story is bad. Last epoche is ALL about the gameplay and endgame. If you're in it for the story you WILL be disappointed. Moment to moment gameplay is def D3 inspired but i'd say it draws more ispiration from PoE overall.

Beautiful art style for another Dclone I've got no interest in. Why? Its another game over saturated with colorful super hero magic explosions.... Since D3, I cannot stand all the flashy color bombs thats being stuffed into these games to appease children. I played D1 was a kid. It was so dark, gritty, scary and difficult. While D2 had more of the visual effects, it was integrated well into the art style. It didn't stand out like a sore thumb as in these games. All these D clones look like they were made by someone who saw too many Star Wars and Marvel movies.
