I had some time this afternoon to take out the Kubota BX and do some work on our gravel driveway. The Piranha Tooth Bar and Countyline Box Blade are the two main tools we use to maintain our long gravel driveway.

I enjoyed your video, I have a new to me bx2670 and have been enjoying videos showing use cases for them. The common theme is always a recommendation on the Piranha tooth bar, appreciate your honest review there!

The box blade was one of the first things I wanted for my BX. Dealer couldn't get me the Land Pride, they found me an A&B Equipment Eagle Line 48" box blade. It works great. Used it to grade my driveway a couple weeks ago. Used it yesterday with the box blade tilted slightly forward and dropped the scarifiers down as far as they'll go, and corrugated the back part of my property for irrigation....it worked great for that as well. I picked up what they call a sub-soiler a while back, which comes with a 3 inch wide blade that will dig down about 2 feet....usually used prior to plowing to help break up hard compacted ground. I replaced the sub-soiler 3" blade with a 12" furrower blade and used it to dig an irrigation ditch, and clean out another ditch, worked great. These little BX tractor does far more than most people think they will. I don't have the Piranha Tooth Bar, I got the Ai2 reversible tooth bar. I haven't yet used the tooth bar side, so far I've just been using the straight edge side and it does great. I don't really do much in the way of digging with the bucket, but its nice to have 2 different cutting edges available. The straight edge tears up stuff bad enough. Still learning where flat/straight on the bucket is, so far I've torn up several patches of grass as a result HAHA!!! My BXPanded skid plate finally shipped today, hopefully I'll have it in a week or 2. The areas I'm in I really don't have problems with brush or tree branches getting up under the tractor, but for the cost of a skid plate, I'd rather have that protection than have to figure out how to get the tractor repaired from a destroyed Hydro Fan. Right now it looks as though I'll never receive the 60" mid mount mower that I paid for, or the pallet forks, so I'll definitely want that skid plate for protection because with my luck some tree branch that's fallen in my yard will somehow manage to work its way into the fan LOL. I think I'm going to contact Artillian and see what they're estimated times are for getting a set of pallet forks from them, I've got several projects that require pallet forks, and its getting to the time of year I'm going to need to get those projects done before the weather turns bad. My shop is a mess right now because I shoved everything over to one side to have a place to park my tractor. Now I have implements sitting that need to be put on pallets and stored on shelves, which require the pallet forks I don't have. Then I need to relocate my table saw which I need the pallet forks for to lift and move the saw. I need to relevel my workbench that I moved across the shop and the pallet forks would be great to be able to lift the front side to get some blocks under the front casters to get it leveled up...yeah it sure would be nice to have a shop with a nice concrete floor, but all I have is an old barn with a dirt floor LOL.

I love my box blade for snow clearing, but don't have much use for it on my paved driveway. Thank you for showing how well it works. I might use mine for clearing some paths. Thank you for making this video. 👍

Hey Jack - I have a BX2380 with loaded turf tires, I also added rear wheel weights that made the tractor more stable on hills and also gives it more traction, got them over at Chappell in Milford, NH - not that expensive either. I just changed my fuel filters - had to remove the mid-mount mower to get at the one underneath - better to do it now than in January ! The box blade is a good investment when you have a gravel driveway - looking good. Thanks for sharing

I too have both fluid filled rear tires and wheel weights. Really cannot over state the difference it makes in stability and traction. Smoother ride too.

I know this video is a year old, but if you learn to back drag with the back/bottom of the toothbar, rather than the teeth, it gives a very smooth surface after. I've learned to do the first pass with the teeth pointed down and that breaks up all the large clumps of material but leaves 8 or 10 impressions in the material from the teeth. Once you do that, if you tilt your bucket level and float it, the bottom edge of the toothbar will only be in contact with the ground and that 1" lip from the bar will smooth out the material like nobody's business.

I've definitely gotten better at backdragging with the toothbar. It's a machine when you figure out that lip.

The BX is an impressive little tractor 👍🏻. Have you considered using some Dexpan on your bigger rocks/boulders the ones you might get an excavator to dig them out. Have a great one 🙋🏼‍♂️👍🏻

I wonder if leaving those large heavy rocks in the bucket while back-dragging in float mode would have been good to lessen stress on the hydraulics and giving better steering authority...?

You need to add some weight on top of box blade. Tie a 2x6 board and tie in some cinder blocks. Thats what I had to do with my mf gc1710. They are just too light, by themselves, to grade gravel.

You may wanna remove your belly mower when doing that sort of work, would be a shame to damage it. Thanks for the video of the box blade in action

Thinking about getting a BX with a belly mower. Do you normally keep it on when you are not mowing? I’m a little hesitant on pulling the trigger because I don’t want to have to put the mower deck off once or twice a week to mow. My dealer strongly advised against running the machine with the belly mower on it when not mowing. What has been your experience with this so far? Also, nice crocs.

@TheMindfulHomestead

Yes and no. You can lock the mower in the highest position and use the box blade with the deck attached, but there is no way that I know of to lock the 3pt up while lowering the mower deck.
