The Dog part was worse than though, because the blood trail shows that Daisy was not killed outright, but through pain dragged herself to John, because he was her source of comfort, but he could not give her any because he was unconscious. John woke up seeing this and imagined her fear and pain and himself being helpless yet again when someone he loved was dying. And in this case he could not even be there for her.

also, I could not believe that Alex never caught on that the sniper was Johns friend and helping him out... He saw the girl entering the room and missed to alert John and then he literally killed the person trying to choke John out and left when John was safe.

34:25 this is a technique that's sometimes referred to as "sheathing the blade". John accepted and controlled where the blade would enter his body (where he had the previous wound), taking the advantage away from his opponent. This is considered a last line of defense type of thing, but is a completely legit tactic.

One thing no one noticed: most of the people in the John Wick universe are carrying modern day handguns, but Marcus’ (Wilem Dafoe’s) is actually a Browning Hi-Power, a handgun from World War II. This may signify how long Marcus has been part of this world.

Honestly, the first John Wick movie is my favorite movie that I've seen so far. That very very sad opening, then the mechanic slapping the ignorent son is the turning point that makes me think wait how dangerous is John actually. Then the phone call between Viggo and the mechanic with the simple "oh" when Viggo heared the reason why, I don't know why but that just gives me chills each and every time.

The thing with Francis outside the Red Circle was code. When John asked if Francis had lost weight, he was really asking how many operatives Viggo had placed in the club to protect Iosef. Because Francis told him without any further trouble, John let him walk. This is why Francis goes on to thank Wick, he was thanking him for sparing his life in that moment, the inevitable shit storm that was to come, or both.

Alex's initial perplexity to how supporting characters in this film react when John Wick's name is mentioned is exactly what the directors, Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, wanted out of the audience. It made John Wick into a standard in the art of cinematic world-building. This movie neither dumbs down everything (by having a narrator explain things) nor does it employ flashbacks that muddle the flow of the plot. The world is presented to the audience in the form of interactions between characters, and the attentive audience is taken on an exhilarating ride through this alive, yet invisible world of assassins.

19:25 - Actually, the "weight loss" line was Francis speaking in code (there is A LOT of code speak in the John Wick movies). The subtitles on the screen say "Over Sixty pounds" but he says Kilograms. When you convert 60 Pounds to Kilograms you get 27.21554 Kilograms. Francis is telling John there are at least 27 hostiles inside the Red Circle. This is why John lets Francis live (telling him to take the night off) since Francis gave John information on how many people he would have to deal with.

The "dinner reservation for twelve" is code for "I need you to come clean up a dozen dead bodies from my home", which, for obvious reasons, you can't just blatantly say over the phone. The coins are the currency that the assassin's guild uses internally. I hate that you missed that Marcus was actually protecting John when he shot his pillow as Perkins was sneaking into his room and when he shot the one guy while John had the bag over his head. Check out the videos of Keanu doing tactical training for these movies. Guns, knives, and martial arts. He learned how to do everything. No gun was shown firing more bullets before reloading than they would actually be able to fire in real life. And that wasn't a "bracelet" we kept seeing. It was the dog's collar.

John didn't let Francis live cause he was nice and really didn't care about how much "weight" he lost. It was code for how many guards were in the club, 60, it's why it was in bold letters. Yeah they're cheezy on the surface, but when you're watching in the original languages and reading the subtitles the acting performances are better than average. I'm not a big action movie buff, but sometimes I'll put one on just to mindlessly pass time. I did this with Wick, and ended up being surprised by how much the movie impressed me. Usually action scenes are just flashy, totally unrealistic sensory blasts, but I loved the fact that Wick always shoots everyone a minimum of Twice. He makes sure opponents are down and out of the fight. He doesn't kill someone and walk away leaving a perfectly good fully loaded weapon by the corpse when he himself is almost out of ammo. Little details like that make me actually pay attention to the action stuff instead of just letting it roll across my eyes.

They smeared bacon grease on Keanu's beard to get the puppy to lick his face. The gold coins are Krugerrands worth about 1.5K, and "dinner reservation for twelve" was code for "I need twelve bodies removed". John asking Francis if he'd lost weight was code for "how many are in the building". Keanu's threat to Viggo before they try to bag him (for another movie that scene always reminds me of, check out Lucky Number Slevin (2006)) is one of those movie moments that makes you feel exactly how much the other people should be scared of him. It's up there with Kurt Russell in Tombstone (1993). Here's this guy who barely speaks, and the one time he does speak at length, you can feel this rising fury.
