RG353p is a great device and has been my go to for travel and on the go gaming

Anbernic is such wasted potential. They were one of the first to the market (with modern portable emulators) and had a fanbase that they could have carried to new generations of handhelds. Instead, they put out all these mediocre products and most of their customers are moving on. In a few months, you should be able to get a much better option at around the same price. Another pass from me.

I know the 352 is great I play mine all the time. But it did take awhile for handheld systems to get to that level at an affordable price. I'm guessing in a year or two we will have much better options.

Agreed. Other channels in this space gloss over the negatives. A few of them just feel like content farms, regurgitating specs with B-roll and little more. Taki actually reviews the damn things! Thanks Taki.

@@Wheelman2004 other reviewers get stuff with better built qualit. They gat Lenovo ram and SSD while we get glowy ram and SSD. Russ from retro game corps and eta prime said that the joysticks were very uncomfortable. Russ nearly hammered down the point.

Why do you people keep suggesting people like Russ and ETA Prime refuse to point out negatives of these devices. They just haven't ran into these issues on their ends yet or may have not tested and noticed these particular issues yet.

It's arrogance man, they've basically turned into a shittier version of GPD. Besides, it sadly doesn't surprise me.

I find it happens a lot, they companies tend to get complacent. Or it could also be new managers etc too, we dont know what goes on behind the doors.

A modded and tuned up GPD WIN 2 is still an amazing device. Only issue is you have to reinforce the hinges and preemptively buy a replacement battery. Other than that. It is great. I really hope the GPD WIN 4 is a follow up to it. I hated the route they went with the GPD WIN 3. Even more infuriating was it not having proper analogue triggers and a 6" or bigger screen.

I’m wondering if inserting a metal shielding layer between pcb and lcd would fix the screen issue. Even EMI foil shielding tape, with a capston tape layer over the top for electrical and heat insulation….

General public doesnt care about 6 face buttons. Aside from the genesis mega drive and saturn don't really need this tbh. Modern fighting games will accommodate Xbox controller inputs.

I agree with you though, I want it anyway. playing n64 would be nice this way too actually.

Bottom firing speakers are only excusable if the device is on the bleeding edge to the point that the manufacturer cannot place it up front. For thick devices like this, it's just plain lazyness.

This and the RG552 definitely have tarnished their name. It seems like they haven't released a single GOOD device since the RG351 series.

The Loki Zero and Loki Mini will blow this thing out of the water.

Considering I can almost emulate heavier PS2 games at full speed with an ATARI VCS which is a quarter of the performance *at best* it'll crush PS2 emulation.

@@matthewblackwood9653 I had originally read good things on the Loki Mini Pro caught a good case of FOMO and purchased a pre-ordered. Then I saw that the Steam Deck can play KH3 I panicked checked the price and saw it was 130 more than I was already paying for with my Loki order. I then emailed AYN asked if they could refund me and they did no issues. So now I'm holding strong till the Steam Deck orders open.

@@SindyxLotus what is kh3? If it's kingdom hearts 3 then the loki can straight up emulate it as it is a ps3 game. I do think the loki base is more bang for buck then the deck as it has hull sensor sticks and the 6600u which has a better cpu and a equivalent GPU. It's more efficient than the deck in terms of cpu but the GPU needs higher wattage to get the same deck like performance. The loki mini Intel version are the worst ones to buy because intell has no performance at lower tdps and it's almost 400$ even with the mini pro. The amd mini might be equal to the deck but we have like no info about it except that it's very efficient. Like the deck it also has 4 zen 2 cores but we don't know about the GPU.

@@shlokshah5379 Kingdom Hearts 3 is a PS4 game. It's also currently, obnoxiously, available on PC as an Epic Games Store Exclusive. There are KZfaq videos that go into the process of getting it to run on the Steam Deck. I told the nice lady at AYN the Deck will better serve my needs, I still think I made the right call asking for a refund. I'm also super fortunate having dealt with a company that would be so understanding.

I can emulate most ps2 games through the 2021 base aya neo, some games aren't perfect but that's more down to the emulator. Steam deck should crush ps2 emulation with the extra power.

I assume that reviewers must have special access to obtain devices sooner than the general public, so as to enable them to have time to test the device, and write a review, to be published at the same time the device goes on general sale. Is that correct? Or do you just have to order one as soon as they go on sale, and write your review as quickly as possible? If there is no special access involved, how could they stop you from getting devices? Couldn't you just order in someone else's name, in the last resort? Agreed. Despite its size, the Wii U has been hands down the most comfortable handheld for me, very underrated imo.

The single RAM stick seems like such an easily avoidable own goal. Including the hardware to support a DIMM would've added cost, if they used soldered memory they could've included dual channel RAM (and probably with more capacity / higher speeds) without raising the price.

@@summersky77 Definite whiff of a debacle at launch, and still a bit flawed, but when taken on it's own terms the 552 is such a good little device and can play so much, so well. They needed to do better with their next big follow up though, but it sounds like they've botched it even further 😒

@@TK1s_Big_Love Should have had at minimum, the Unisoc T618 8-Core Processor with the active cooling and $100 less with none of the build quality issues (paint flaking after two days, broken switches, volume rocker button etc.) That was just the tip of the iceberg. It has a nice screen and paired with a decent controller can be a convenient streaming device when nothing else is available.

@@summersky77 The chipset is fine and is a decent upgrade on the 351 era, I don't think they necessarily have access to more powerful SOC's, their business model seems to be "design something around what we can get hold of" and whilst the price could have been a bit cheaper, it's still good value for money - it's just that the Steam Deck and Odin came from nowhere to turn everyone's heads with their phenomenal value and performance. Given that you still can't really get either of them though, and i've had the 552 since December, i'm not really holding it against Anbernic. £185 for a handheld with a truly nice and versatile screen that can competently play the consoles the RK3326 machines struggled with, plus tons of ports and loads of Android stuff too is exactly what i was looking for since getting the 350M. I've not had the issues you describe, but there's def been too many corners cut on the 552 (no bluetooth, lesser wi-fi, no stacked shoulders, power button in a weird place, battery isn't great, etc), plus underwhelming software at launch. Given their rep for quality hardware, they deserve criticism for some of these choices, even if Covid was probably a massive disruption. Tbh, i can forgive most of this stuff because the 552 was designed in a pre-Odin/Deck/Covid world and the updated firmware improves it no end...but i cannot understand what they're thinking pricing the Win600 as they have. Well out of impulse and mainstream purchase territory and the hardware isn't good enough to be premium. It seems they've learnt nothing from the 552 debacle (lol). And this Taki stuff suggests that they know they've botched it. It would be interesting to know how many units they plan on manufacturing, what their profit margins are and whether they can sustain this approach with their higher-end stuff for much longer .

Anbernic's peak was the 351 series, and even I love my RG351V. But everything they released after those are hot garbage. They've figuratively fallen off a cliff.

@@DomVito87 Same, currently testing Batocera via usb port but Im gonna buy a 1 or 2TB ssd and flash to that. Ill also test jelos first as you can adjust TDP per system or per game if you want, that option can save you battery life. With Batocera if you play Atari 2600 or PS2 it will consume same battery power.

Thats a valid point. I wish you could buy the win600 with a blank ssd so the buyer has an option to install the OS of their choice or even have an option to buy one with no ssd.

You are a little high on some things and a little low on others, but you are pretty close. Chinese price for this was 2400 RMB = $360 (paid this fee twice).

@@MrGoneja First mover's advantage does exist, and if they could keep it in stock at $250 plenty people owould buy it until something better comes out or when the better options are OOS. There are of course fundamental problems with this device that need to be solved, though. But I don't think significant engineering time or extra cost would be needed to do that.

with all the problems listed by taki on the video, i find it hard to believe they spent much on R&D at all. its stuff so basic that it makes me think they didnt even test the damn thing before shipping. not even 100 dollar no-brand chinese smartphones suffer from these problems...

Ain't ever gonna happen, they don't have the manufacturing resources to do so nor can they swallow the production costs like console companies or valve can as they will make that back in games sales. Steam Deck remains the unchallenged king, just reserve the 300$ or 600$ model be patient and in the mean time safe money.

I know it's not what you're looking for, but Dolphin is pretty informative in its settings about what changing stuff in the settings can get you. Hover over any setting you're not sure of, and Dolphin will explain briefly what it does and their recommendation. Make sure the graphics are set to 1x (native) res and that anisotropic filtering is set to 1x or none. Anything else is by a game-by-game basis and will require a little testing by you for the balance of features and performance you're willing to sacrifice for. :)

Fools still buying this potato. Like rg522$ sold out, win600$ will be gone. That's the problem, many people are so undemanding for the quality. Buying crap is not cool, not to mention the carbon footprint. Saving for the better, sturdy and reliable product is the key.
