I never would have thought I was in an area where this would happen, but in this day and age you never know. I was robbed at gun point in Los Angeles last week and I just wanted to share my story with you guys.
While I am physically okay, mentally, I keep playing the scenario in my head over and over again, asking myself if LA is a safe place to live for me... Trying to think of new ways to stay safe in LA as a woman... because crime is on the rise.
I hope my experience can help you in some way. Stay safe out there y'all. ❤️

Luckily I don't see any comments like this, but after situations like this, people online and otherwise tend to give unwarranted "you should've"s. Please know that everything you did in the moment was CORRECT in this particular situation for your survival. The proof is in how you're unharmed! Don't fall into the trap of looping the situation in your mind with "what if I had done this? or that?" YOU ARE OKAY which means you handled it the BEST way in that moment. That's a really awful situation! I was also attacked recently near the crossroad somewhere in Santa Monica. It was so unexpected for me, because I used to feel myself pretty confident and feel freedom to go whenever I want. But after that experience I started making a research about safety in different areas of LA. Thanks God we are all safe and sound after that.

La is turning into a literal crime zone. It sucks because i want to move there again but idk they are robbing people left and right no matter the location. Best area is maybe beverly hills but those areas are getting robbed in broad daylight too

I’m glad you’re okay! I’m considering moving back to L.A. next year and remember very sketchy situations. Especially since there were long period of times I needed to use public transportation. And you’re right, there are certain areas you really don’t expect things to happen. In my early twenties this was definitely not a thought while I traveled throughout the city. I pray you continue to stay safe and that overtime you can heal from this traumatic experience. These are definitely trying times and like you mentioned people are desperate. Has this experience made you reconsider staying in L.A?

I just moved to LA in January - I know a close friend who also went through the same thing, cops just ignored all calls (in Hollywood). I lived in DTLA for 29 days before I got the hell out of there, my car was broken into only 3 days after purchasing the vehicle. LA is a mess, Orange County is nice, but it's so boring.

Boring is safe. Exciting is dangerous. Those are your choices in LA and you pick what you can accept. I am born and raised in LA for 41 years. Seen all sorts of insanity and riots. I moved to a boring part of LA along time ago so it's safe for LA standards. DTLA is not for living. Never has been and never will. You get in for a Laker game or convention and then get out ASAP. Sorry you had to experience the BS. Maybe try San Diego North County.

@@EddieRodriguez01 I probably wouldn’t consider it safe since it has gang activity. Especially around the surrounding areas like East Hollywood, Echo Park, and East LA. It gets safer the closer you move Beverly Hills.

They built LA very weirdly, it's cool or whatever, but you have to keep your eyes open at all times, even driving to the hollywood sign, a lot of hidden areas, narrow roads where anybody could be, I went to echo park to ride the paddle boats and that area was sketchy to me at night

I’m sorry this happened to you. I wish people that move to L.A. consulted with either native Angelinos or people who’ve been here a long time. The LAPD put out a warning during the pandemic saying, “Don’t move to L.A., it’s like ‘The Purge’.” People are struggling here. Gentrification is pricing people out of their homes and jobs are scarce and getting scarcer. Echo Park aka “Echo Parque”, although rapidly gentrifying, is a notorious Latino gang area. There was a time when, if you were Black, it was best you avoid it, East L.A., and other gang-ridden neighborhoods. I’m a native Angelino and I was held up by a stranger at gunpoint in the 80s, but I wasn’t robbed or raped, thank GOD. I’m so glad you and your friends are all right. GOD is good. Be careful out there. ❤

Thanks for sharing! These criminals are getting bold. People always say travel in groups because things like this are less likely to happen, but guess that is not true . Also my own tip! I always make a habit to carry my car keys in my hand and as soon as I get into the car I start the car quickly and lock the doors at the same time. I don't wait for my car to "auto lock" as I start driving. We often take a min to get settled in the car, pick a song all with the door being unlocked. Its not safe.

The devil thought he had you but God. You’re still alive & for that *I* am grateful. Traumatic experiences like this become embedded in our memory & they often cause us to live in bondage (in this case fear, regret, sadness, etc.) but I pray that your testimony saves others & redirects you to be exactly where God needs you to be to bless you. Thank you for your transparency. May your peace of mind return & what you lost physically return quickly & 10fold at that. I know it might take time, but I believe God has something in store for you. Cause the devil doesn’t attack unless he sees something he wants to try & stop. Keep pushing. But also plz take the time you need to take care of yourself. ✨All✨ the time you need. Hi Sister I am so sorry to hear that you had a terrible experience. Even I got robbed in Chicago around 7:30pm. It was like two guys suddenly holding me tightly and closing my mouth from behind, they grabbed my bag, phone, etc, and disappeared into the near ally in minutes. I am a transwoman and was staying in a shelter at that time. After that incident, I have been thinking about relocating to a safe state /place. Like you said this video will help some people to be alert while being outside. Let the almighty protect you always.

I'm an LA native, ive lived in ktown all my life. even when the streets in my neighborhood had gang members of all kinds in the early 2000s what you had experienced wasn't a things until 5yrs ago in my experience. My sister had to defend herself with a taser last week! I carry everywhere. Don't be a victim if you live in Los Angeles. Chances are it will happen again.

Yeah I have been here too long to really leave now. I am past my prime but the city has gone to shit. Those of us who have been here our entire lives know a time when the city was better, had better leadership. closer knit communities, better quality of life. No homeless epidemic, etc. I could go on but no point. It's always possible i will leave for good. I just travel a lot now to get away from LA.

Theres 3 active gangs in Echo park. Echo park is 80% gentrified but the gangs are still around and theres still alot of poverty in pockets.

Echo Park is a total dump. I live here in LA, I wouldn't step foot out there. Never get out of your car if you can avoid it. Eat at home. Don't be a pedestrian. LA is an out of control, violent place now, thanks to zero bail and Gascon's pity on criminals. The people who robbed you were not desperate. They were greedy and lazy. 😡 Ma tried to persuade me otherwise, but I just can’t… Robbers/Thieves DESERVE a painful death, and if I’m ever put into a position to do so while they’re in the act, I’ll do it for them and feel a type of joy while doing so. Moving to echo park in a month, :( hope I don’t have to deal with this, if they weren’t afraid to rob your friends including a guy that was with you I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be afraid to rob a small person like me who’s all by themselves.

@@elijahheart9103 unfortunately its too late, but tbh it was the best decision of my life. Everything in LA is colorful, diverse, and people are SO laid back and chill. I live and work in the most “dangerous” parts of the city, besides cars exceeding speed limits and people smoking weed, there is not much to worry about. ITS SUPER LAID BACK!

@@suenoslucidos3899 everyday criminals are following people home, robbing people on the street, one of them took a womans car through her out in the street turned around and ran her over. And police are not doing anything to stop those criminals. And im sure there is some good things about LA but the bad out weights the good at this point. And just like this woman said on the video it can happen any time When you least expect it. 36 people has been unalived over the weekened there. Not to mention the homeless and tents everywhere its so depressing Because the mayor and governor have yet to fix the crisis. Whats worse is the mentally unstable drug users that chase people down the street with weapons unaliving people not at night but during the afternoon when everyone is outside. I was born and raised in san Francisco california and its a lot safer here. Also you dont need a car here we have about 50 different bus lines

Tyra, thank you for your video explaining this harsh experience, I was just curious if you by any chance know anything regarding saftety and crime issues around the place called "Francis Avenue Community Garden, 2909 Francis Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90005", which is located on the 8th avenue of vermont in koreatown. I am planning on living here for a while, and I do not have a car. Most of my transportation will be either biking or taking a bus to my workspace. I would really appreciate if you could provide any information about this time... and what you can do whenever this terrible situation where you get your phone or personal device stolen happen in LA. Thank you so much and hope to hear back from you.

Wow Before anything I am Glad you & your Friend are Alive May God continue to have his Host of Heavens Angles have charge over you in Jesus Mighty name #2 This is a Testimony !!! Everything Literally EVERYTHING has to pass through Gods hands so while “safety” is vital and there were ways to “circumvent” this situation (Although I’m with the other comments of please do not blame yourself there was nothing you did wrong at all, you were just being a normal person hanging with friends on y’all way to get some food) I genuinely believe God is using this circumstance to take you deeper into how he wants to equip you for the times ahead. It’s not uncommon for people to rob & steal but for them to rob y’all at gun point during sunset with people around is particularly bizarre and desperate. Depravity is increasing so our discernment by the leading of the Holy Spirit must as well. 6 other robberies in the same area ? That’s madness foreal. I’m not sure if you have anointing oil but if you do definitely take some time to anoint yourself (head/ears/heart) Declare psalm 91 and dwell and invite God into your space and talk with the Holy Spirit cause I really feel this was deeper than eye level. Every person I’ve know including myself who’ve gone through near death experiences say in the retrospect it was the genesis too a deeper relationship with God. Sorry for the long comment hopefully this all makes sense. Again May God Cover and Protect you in Jesus Mighty Name 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

sucks but being a LA native I would never go to Echo park and when I did was during the time of ultra gentrification, hipsters and such...I guess things are getting back to how they used to be. none of my black friends ever went to that area. i havent been there in 10 years

Yes, you never know. If someone would’ve asked me what I would’ve done before actually being in the situation, I probably would have said I’d run too. But you truly never know until it’s happening.
