Filming a multi-hour celebrity interview in Los Angeles, Griffin finally finds a reason to try a Manfrotto monopod. Specifically-the Manfrotto XPRO aluminum video monopod-which retails for $269, and cost $25/day to rent from Samy’s Camera in LA. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...

I just got an ifootage cobra 2 monopod and it can handle my GH cameras with various lenses pretty well. I really love it and I can even leave it and it'll stay up and not tip over amazing sturdy legs. I think you'll fall in love with it.

Dude that's Jeff Goldblum's place. He plays Jazz at that place. I think he's like part owner. Also, I just shot a thing for NBA Films using the GH's and lemme tell you constant power was a life saver. I just bought those from Panasonic instead of doing the whole Battery Tango.

Focusrite 2i2 and Steinberg ur22 for me. The 2i2 has a bigger volume knob. All knobs, no software, so runs in linux just great.

You should try the SIRUI monopods. They have much longer legs at the bottom. These longer legs provide a lot more stability than the Manfrotto monopods. You can leave them standing without holding the camera similar to a regular tripod even at full extension/height.

Came here to say the same, those blue monopods can be left alone with a prime on it no problem, just twist the bottom lock and you're golden.

Yes, but the P-424SR still has a bit of a wobble at the base even when everything is tightened. This is not only my copy, as there are also KZfaq videos about this issue. Though the iFootage Cobra 2 has smaller feet, I find this monopod more sturdy and confident in keeping a camera still. And it is a nice mini-tripod / semi high hat, if needed.

@@Edwin-- I have the Sirui P-424S and I wouldnt leave it standing on its own with a camera on top...nope...wobbly...but still good-those big feet can be useful. I have enjoyed the monopod for 3 years but I don't like the twisting mechanism at all..never did...so I want to try a Manfrotto Xpro or an iFootage cobra 2 180II...which one of these two would be better? Just in case you have tried them...I want smooth movements-I won't leave the monopod unattended! ever! Do you find the cobra 2 much better than the Sirui? Is the cobra 2 better than the Manfrotto Xpro? I have a separate fluid head so that's not a factor. Thanks
@Edwin--
@Edwin-- Жыл бұрын
@@TheFandangovideoguy I would consider the iFootage Cobra the best. The P-424S has the wobble in the base which ruined more shots than I care to mention (and I really wanted to like it because of it's wide base) and I have had the X-Pro in the past too (I am not sure whether that was the current version, was some years ago) but that one had latches that were quick to come lose and required re-adjusting. To me, the Cobra is the best monopod I've tried so far. And if you look at reviews from Jordan Drake of DPReview or Gerald Undone, you see I am in good company with that conclusion. What I also like is that you can turn it in into a very small tripod with only the base and head, which can give nice perspectives. Overall it is a very well made and versatile monopod. I have the 150 cm carbon version II, not the 180 cm (which is similar but longer) or the aluminum version. I also bought an extra quick release plate, and that allows me to use Loctite on the thread for my video head so it will not come lose anymore with tilting and if I want to use any other head I just change the quick release plate. Super convenient. I would recommend it.

One use of monopods that really is never mentioned and stumbled upon when trying to shoot a train car. I was at a train station and I spotted a rare train car so I thought I'd get a shot of it. The problem is that there was a wire fence with restrictive openings that didn't allow me to stick my lens through. The fence was also very high. I was right beside a short cement fence that was about 2 1/2 feet high which I could stand on. But even standing on it I had to kind of get up on my tip toes which meant an unstable camera held up high. I went back to my car to grab my monopod, good old Manfrotto's aluminum jobbie which is heavier than the new sexy carbon fibre ones, this extra weight was a good thing. I realized that even thought the tripod would never reach the ground, the weight of this long pod hanging down would provide a stabilizing force muting camera movement. This worked very well. Subsequently when I'm out and about without even extending the pod, I will connect it to my camera to hang down, even though it is groundless, so to speak. By the way for you video guys, I recall watching a video of a guy pulling a monopod up slowly with a rope while his video (on camera) rolled, it created a nice effect.

When using a monos you have to lower your expectations. You have to dance with it, don't aim for rock steady shots. This is not a tripod.

@Edwin--
@Edwin-- 2 жыл бұрын
@@GriffinHammond Or perhaps better, use external recording and internal recording sequentially as back-up (as you can then hot-swap the SD cards in most cameras). A Ninja V with a 1 TB SSD easily records 3 hours of footage at the highest 4K resolutions. And if you use the camera stationary, an Anton Bauer Titon Base and dummy battery is a very good power source for the camera and any other external recording gear. This set-up will easily give 3 hours of continuous record time without any worries.
