The story that Sally tells is true. Historic route 66 stretched from Chicago to LA. People drove on it and would stop off in little towns on the way. In Arizona when I 40 was built several of those small towns were bypassed. As time went on people had no idea there were places to stop because no exit ramps to lead into the small towns or signs. Many of these small towns had to close up and became just an empty place. Lots of livelihoods were lost.

If I remember correctly, didn’t this movie have some real world effects to make Route 66 more prevalent, or am I mistaken?
@Antonio88870
@Antonio88870 Жыл бұрын
@@K-11609 If I remember correctly, yes it did had some good impact on it. Route 66 wasn't completely forgotten before Cars but it wasn't that far from it. In fact, the Pixar animation team did a few trips through it, stopping at a few towns over there, meeting people and learning about their histories, with some of them serving as inspiration for the movie. Sally for example is based on a real life attorney who got into one of those towns at some point and never left, working to help the city with business and working as their lawyer, just like Sally in the movie. Beyond that, Xeriff is voiced by one of those real life characters, Michael Wallis, who's not an actor but a historian and author about Route 66, plus dozens and dozens of other little details from real life's Route 66 placed into the movie.

I only recently found out about a book that detailed Lightning's backstory. His real name is Montgomery, and he learned to race at an Racing Academy where the top student would receive a sponsorship. During his time there, McQueen befriended another car named Carl, and the two often spent their time racing each other in friendly competitions. Before the final race of the year, in which would determine who would graduate and earn the sponsorship, Carl told McQueen there was a problem with his car parts (I don't remember exactly what it was) and urged him to remove it to avoid any crashes. However, this was a lie as McQueen was in perfect condition, and this removal made McQueen slower and allowed Carl to overtake him and win the race, and Carl earned the sponsorship, and McQueen felt betrayed by the one who he thought was his friend, and after that, McQueen came to believe that he could only depend on himself and didn't need anyone to avoid suffering another betrayal, which explains his self-confidence and lack of teamwork skills at the beginning of the movie. After graduating and racing on the minor leagues, McQueen was fired from his sponsor, Smell Swell Deodorizer in favor of another young rookie racer named Sammy Smelter, whose poor racing fit the image of Smell Swell better, according to the representative who fired McQueen. Mack, who had overheard McQueen's termination, approached the young hotshot and offered to take him to Boston to meet for a job opportunity with Rust-eze, who had been looking, with little success, for a new spokescar. During their trip, McQueen and Mack became fast friends. Upon their arrival in Boston, Rusty and Dusty Rust-eze offered a sponsorship to McQueen. Though he was initially hesitant due to the sponsor's humiliating demeanor, McQueen ONLY agreed if Rust-eze allowed Mack to become his driver, which they allowed, and that's how McQueen and Mack came to work together.

I know of another McQueen backstory from Boom Kids Comics, called "The Rookie" (which I know isn't canon.) "Bulldozer" McQueen was the best racer at his local track, Thunderhill Raceway, until he crashed trying to become Regional Champion. He met Mack, a moving van at the time, who agreed to get him into the Piston Cup test sessions. After Rust-eze's current racer, an old-timer, retired after a crash, McQueen took over. The rest of the comic shows his first Piston Cup race, where the King gives him the "Lightning" nickname, as well as his first victory.

First of all, everything you said about Lightning is true. Now on the subject of Doc, the racing world caused him a lot of trauma, so he retired to that small town in order to forget. That is why as soon as he sees Lightning, who represents his past, his first decision is to get him out of town without corcern about the broken road. Doc just couldn't accept that someone like Lightning could change for the better. So when he sees him getting along with his people, Doc identifies him as a threat to his safe place and calls the media to get rid of him. When he sees to what extent his grudge has affected the people of Radiator Springs, he realizes that he has behaved like uncarring and grumpy old man.

@@fnafgachafan1644 not fired as much as lost his spot...the real Hudson Hudson Hornet was introduced in 1951. If you assume they hit the racing circuit the second production year, Doc started racing in 1952, this is supported by the Twin H Power emblems he wore in his racing paint job, that was the big thing in the 1952 model. He didn't win the Cup his first year because McQueen says he wants to be the first rookie to won it, so Doc's first win was probably 1953. He won three, so his big wreck was in 1957, his fifth season. 1957 was the year the Hudson brand was retired. Since the racing is modeled on NASCAR, the rules require race cars to be representative of vehicles in production as street legal cars at a certain minimum number of units. So if Doc came back in 1958, NASCAR would not let him compete since Hudson wasn't in business. He was effectively banned from racing. Why not fired? Human drivers are not employees of NASCAR, so it stands to reason the cars are the same, and it was NASCAR that kicked him to the curb. Human drivers are also not employees of their race team, they are contractors. Presumably the same holds in the cars world. So racers only get year by year contracts, though the best doubtless sign new contracts before their prior one expires, to keep the sponsorships. Since Doc was ruled ineligible to race, his contract would be null and void. So he wasn't fired...he lost his contract. Not that he's going to be less angry about it, but his team and sponsors didn't dump him...he was a casualty of brand consolidation .

"Is it about his dream or about money?" Why can't it be both? Having a dream that also mean you'll get a ton of money can't be mutually exclusive, heck, who didn't had a dream about doing something you love and get payed for it? "Who doesn't have a secret that is to painful or embarrassing to share" Sure, with strangers, with people you just met, not with your friends, your supposed true and real friends, that is the point. You can have secrets, but actually hiding who you really are to the people you are supposed to trust is another thing, specially when said secret is kept by spite. Also, Hudson says "best for Everybody" not for McQueen, which makes Sally's statement true, he called the press on McQueen just so he could get rid of him.

Mater was probably my favorite as well. The back story of Doc Hudson and how the town had faded with the interstate being put in are surprisingly emotional. Btw, not sure if someone mentioned but the highway they show the town on Rte 66, is real and WAS the main route from east to west coast USA until they put in more direct interstate freeways. So many towns did just like Radiator Springs and dried up if they were bypassed. Just like Sally said, back then, it was about the trip. Not getting there as fast as possible.

There's one bit in this I'm not sure carries through to younger generations: the two who run Rust-Eze are a pair of brothers named Tom and Ray Magliozzi; they had a popular radio show called "Car Talk" for many years where they would give advice to people on how to fix up their cars. It was fun to hear them in a Disney movie.

29:30 At one side, it would've been better for McQueen to stay there, since that was what he was looking for all along. A family; Real Friends At the other side, he had the biggest race of his life the next day, so it was also best for him to go and do this race. However, Doc called McQueen's team out of a selfish desire, not because he wanted the best for McQueen. It really has a great conflict between all of these characters. And yes, I guess he could've gone back, but that just ruined the moment you know. It was the first time McQueen actually got to experience quality time with friends, and it was taken away from him

A part of Americana. US Route 66 (the Mother Road0 was the big highway pre-WW II, 1920s until the 1960s. Would take you all the way from Chicago to LA. But when the interstate highways got built after WW II, it became obsolete. Little places that had been prosperous were left marooned if the interstate didn't pass thru them. These little islands of neglect and poverty are nostalgia for the Boomers and their parents/grandparents. That kitsch motel is like the places my parents and I stayed at, when I was a boy, and the older stuff like when they were newlyweds. My father had his own racer dreams, that he had to give up to be a responsible husband and father. It took multiple decades, but I got to retire to a region like my early childhood, to a loving place in the South West like that, not like LA or Chicago ;-)

The main reasons why Cars is my favorite movie of all time is: 1. The entirety of my childhood The series in general took over my childhood, bought all the merchandise and bought all 3 movies on CD (it was the early 2010s) 2. It's different from Disney but familiar to Pixar Pixar really tried with this movie as it was the final movie made before Disney bough them, so I can tell they wanted to please their fans with one final story that truly sets the golden age of animation films. And cars was just that. Now I'm not saying that all Pixar films after Cars were bad (in fact it's the opposite for almost all of them) but I'm saying that this is the last time they really tried 3. It's unique It was unique for the time. And it still kind of is in both the story and character designs. Nowadays, when you see any car films, rarely do you see them have the design and realness that the cars in this film have. And that's why I love it. 4. Memorable characters I know you touched on this in the video, and I agree with you, I think no one could ever beat Larry the Cable Guy when it comes to voicing mater. And it's not just for him. Please just take a moment to look at the list of the many talented actors who were brought in for this movie Thanks a lot for reviewing this movie, and the video itself was so damn good. Me watching this video and thinking about the movie gave me all the memories from the past 13 years back to me. And I thank you so much for that. When my year graduated from Gymnasium (high school) every student was allowed to play a song and this one almost made it. Yes! I'm a huge fangirl of this franchise and have an obsession with it! I was so happy when my recommendations dropped me this video! Cars will forever be my favorite franchise. I love the story, animations, soundtrack, characters, etc! The first and third one made me cry ugly af. Thank you for reacting to this! Another on of my face that's definitely worth checking out is Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. That movie makes Lion King look cheap lol!

Cars 3 gives more insight to why exactly he had to stop racing: SPOILER WARNING AHEAD It's not that they gave up on him. It's that by that point he was so old to where if he'd gotten into another wreck, he wouldn't have survived it. Retiring when he did gave him more years of his life he never would've had if he'd kept racing.

Actually your wring, he wanted to keep going he said he had more racing in him, however they believed his reputation was tarnished and was old news not worth the work to put him back in.

Someone said before that this and Thor 1 are the same: A pretentious prick gets stuck in the middle of a desertic small town where he learns the power of friendship and team work and falls in love with a very capable female. I think about it every week when I watch cars but I'm not that sure cause I only watched Thor once 🤷🏻‍♀️

Man, the inside of that big rig carrying Mcqueen, the with soft neon lights on the walls, reminds me of when I was in the 3rd grade and our school sent us on an end of the year field trip and they rented this really REALLY nice tour bus that had carpeted flooring, and cushioned seats, air conditioning vents next to the windows and little tv screens on the back of the chairs to watch a movie on. and anyway, the bus also had these soft neon lights on the walls of the bus that came on automatically at night, and that's the memory lol.

Fun fact, Mater had to be renamed to Martin in the French version of the film because the "Tuh Mater, but without the 'Tuh'" joke couldn't be translated to French. The joke in French is "Aston Martin, but without the 'Aston'".

The only Pixar franchise I can definitely say I’m obsessed with. Although, funny enough I wasn’t that interested in Cars when it came out. Instead, I was way more interested in the Cars video game. Of course nowadays I’m interested in both. People basically just criticize this franchise for not having that Pixar feel (most likely). But I think that’s a good thing, because they were trying to be different.

this movie is my fav Pixar one,I'm always been obsessed with cars(tbc,just aesthetically and on races,I know nothing about motors),I used to collect Hot Wheels and I never missed a Formula 1 race,so you can see by yourself how I'm bonded to this movie. I always loved how they gave life to the cars,I love the designs so much,and,honestly,I never hated McQueen,but I was a child in 2006,so I got used to seeing him as I did back then,that is a goddamn beautiful race car bright red,just like a Ferrari,and I think it's also because I've always had a soft spot for sassy characters,my love for Sylvanas Windrunner from WoW tells it all,in fact,while I love Mater as everyone else,McQueen remains my fav character. I never thought about that,but you're right,Guido and Luigi need and deserve a spin-off movie,and,talking about that,since you fell in love with Mater(as you should have),he is the protagonist of a short and a series,Cars Toons,the first season only tho,composed by 11 episodes,if you want more of him,that's the perfect place for you. The second movie is not that good of a sequel(it used to happen very often then),but it's still funny and enjoyable,and Mater as the main character is the greatest thing ever,so I'm sure you're gonna like it to say the least
