Fun fact: This movie had such a HUGE campaign at the Oscars to get a Best Picture nomination. When that campaign failed, the Academy decided that next year’s ceremony will have a new category: Best Animated Feature. So every Oscar win from “Shrek” to “The Boy and the Heron” is thanks to this chicken movie. ^-^

Which could be seen as a good thing but unfortunately actually put animation in a separate category as if they can't be counted as "real" movies with the judges if the Academy not hiding they don't even watch them
@benlhyenethehyena9947
@benlhyenethehyena9947 2 ай бұрын
@@FarflungClown sadly no since the judges themselves don't respect them and it was essentially their excuse to ignore them (many admitted they only see one or don't see an't at all and just randomly choose, one even said he had no time for this "crap for children") and only deal with "real" movies. So as long as they don't treat them like actual movies and segregate them in another category, it will never get the respect it gets as another art medium

The “liar revealed” trope is used so much, but it’s so well written here. I like how Rocky admits it by giving Ginger the rest of the poster and Fowler’s pin, and just deserts them. Made it a bit more sad and dramatic

It helps that we see him grappling with his guilt after they escape the pie machine, as he realises his new relationships with them were built on a lie. It seems to me he left those things behind instead of telling the truth outright because he was too ashamed to say it to their faces.

And when you think about it, he’s not that bad of a guy. Sure, he acts mean to the chickens (especially Ginger). But who would be when their escape attempts cause you to be abuse by your horrible spouse? In the end, he’s just a guy trying to keep his family’s egg farm going, and probably wouldn’t be as harsh with the livestock if it weren’t for Mrs. Tweedy, who may have been the one to turn the place into a prison.

The first-ever stop motion animated film from Aardman and just like what a lot of other people say it is great. I didn't think you could make a prison break-style movie with chickens to be this intense and engaging, but somehow the people at Aardman found a way.

I saw this as a kid in a near empty theater alongside my sleeping dad, and it was one of the most entertaining experiences I had. My Dad saw it as a kids' movie and a chance to get some sleep. I saw it as an inspired version of The Great Escape with British/American humor, incredible animation and great voice acting. This was a great memory that inspired my screenwriting.

To answer the "only rooster" problem, farmers often buy their chickens from chicken breeders. They don't usually want their egg-laying chickens to bone because then the customer will be cracking open fertilised eggs with baby chicks in them.

Chicken pen-itentiary is modeled after The Great Escape's POW camp, including the digging scenes (well, the whole movie, really). Great classic movie (you didn't appear to recognize that). Eggs are not children unless they are fertilized. (Women (& chickens) do know that. Guys? I'm not so sure...). (Response to your early comments). Can chickens fly? See the WKRP in Cincinnati turkey flying incident (seriously, it's hilarious). Loved the Star Trek pun.

This is such a classic. It's one of the movies that my family quotes a lot ("I don't want to be a pie, I don't like gravy") and was a favourite growing up. In high school, we actually watched it in class and compared it to one of its inspirations The Great Escape. Highly recommend that classic as well, you'll recognise a lot from Chicken Run and it's just a brilliant film that was actually inspired by a true event. Some of the real people involved were involved in the film, as well as some of the actors having been POWs themselves during the war. It's very much an 'inspired by' movie instead of an accurate retelling, as most films based on real events are, but it's still brilliant and the true story of Stalag Luft III is fascinating in itself.

This is the best World War II horror film aimed at kids ever made. The opening scene parodies Stalag 17 (look at the roof). It becomes "The Great Escape" (also a brilliant film) using chickens instead of POWs. To appeal to the kids, though, it has a hapoy ending unlike the great escape.

It tells the story of a band of chickens doomed to a life of egg-laying on a Yorkshire chicken farm. When a flamboyant American rooster arrives on the scene, the hens hope he can teach them to fly to freedom. However, when a chicken-pie-making machine is installed, their need becomes urgent and they must devise other means of escape.

It's amazing how much empathy and emotional depth we can feel towards fictional animals, clay or CGI. I just wish more people would extend it to the real ones. 4:50 - that's precisely what happens in real life, although still watered down (hint: male chickens don't lay eggs at all so they're worthless to the egg industry) 14:33 - isn't she? 20:11 - that's also straight from real life (not so much for the chickens people end up eating, but for the male chicks I mentioned earlier, usually on the same day they hatch)
@IceCenders
@IceCenders 18 күн бұрын
People are raised to not have empathy for animals unless they are pets or deemed cute or attractive like wolves or dolphins or elephants. And even then people don't seem to have issue with seeing rabbits as cute, occasionally keeping them as pets, but otherwise killing and eating them. In fact the propaganda is quite real: every cool or cute animal is deemed intelligent, every menial or eaten animal is deemed dumb, and somehow it translates into them not deserving to live.

When I was young, I was afraid of stop-motion (like Pingu or Shaun the Sheep), and I always felt uneasy when I watched it. Today I’m not scared anymore but I remain very mixed about the work of this window of movies like Wallace and Gromy. But Chicken Run is an exception because this film aims to be wild, which makes the stop-motion of the era in keeping, and I like it. The humor works very well, the characters are endearing thanks to their situation and the main duo is very successfull. Ginger is admirable and Rocky is fun, which makes it a cute couple. The action does well too, notably the death of the hen at the beginning which is tense and the escape at the end which is epic. Anyway, Chicken Run allowed me to reconcile myself with the old stop-motion, by being a fun and entertaining UK film☺️. With a sequel 23 years later, it's crazy🤯 (good sequel by the way)

4:54 technically that isn't true. A vast majority of chicken eggs that are laid are unfertilized eggs. If you didn't notice they only have one Rooster, so pretty much all the eggs here would be unfertilized. So they're not exactly stealing their kids away. Hens like women pass their eggs regardless of fertilize or not, just in the case of chickens they're laid and normally abandoned by the Hen or left in a nest until it well rots. This is actually one of the reasons birds were among some of the first animals that became domesticated. This process of eggs laying was very convenient and easily controlled by just keeping the male bird population to a minimum ie Dinner time, and keeping the female population high, so plenty of unfertilized eggs for consumption.

WW1, the sinking of the Lusitania leading to the deaths of 128 Americans and the Zimmerman telegram that threatened an alliance between Germany and Mexico against the US led to public opinion shifting to wanting to join as well as the higher ups of the government. And that was at the last 10 months of the war. We all know why we entered WW2. Thank the Japanese government at the time for that.
