I liked the movie. But I had a lot of issues with it. For starters, why was the president just chilling in the Whitehouse? They would have moved him at the first sign of anything like this happening. Second, who was paying the journalists? Why were they even there? Are they just risking their lives for the artistic element? Unlikely Third, why was there still power, water, and gas available? Who's driving the trucks and keeping the lights on? Are people still going to work while all this is happening? Unlikely.

1. Because the military had just suddenly up and surrendered the day before and were probably already advancing too quickly. The f22s that flew over were probably to signify "hey, the president isn't going anywhere in the sky" and it's obvious that a ground convoy is even worse 2. Is there something wrong with them wanting to get the truth out and a story? 3. A good portion of the country was out of the war, they probably just kept functioning like usual and didn't try to support either side and did their usual supply chain

Forgive me for being late to this party, but for your last question, unironically yea. Contrary to popular perception, in times of war, and even civil war, most of the population will stay put and keep doing what they are doing, unless they are in the line of fire or near the front line. The reason for this is a mix of security and sunk cost. If the war is not near your home, are you really gonna abandon your job, valuables, and opportunities on the off chance that maybe the war comes to your doorstep? Some people can yes. But what if you’re a farmer? Not as easy. And finally, most people don’t like change, and will be very hesitant to the idea of uprooting their entire life, to go somewhere else. Most will prefer to wait out the war. We saw this in near every civil war, including our own. Edit: almost forgot to mention, as for power and resources, that will vary state by state, county by county. It will be in the interest of the federal government, and even rebel ones, to keep power on for their side, while reducing access for the enemy.

@@SanLeMans Now you are just using the slippery slope argument. What's not to love about missiles, or rockets, or drones, or guns, or even cannons? As long as you are not a criminal, I don't see why the government should be bothered by a population that if proficient in firearms use. I see that as a benefit militarily. The US was based on a militia in the early days. Every able bodied male was part of the militia. This is important to supplement a standing army in war time. Nothing is worse than having to train a lot of people who know nothing and have no experience. If you are concerned about criminals getting guns, we should solve THAT problem. Just reduce crime. Everyone knows how that is done. Society is to lenient on violent criminals, and governments do little to tackle crime. Sometimes it even seems like they are tolerating and facilitating crime. The social policies and economic policies of the government also create poverty and wealth disparity. I think the real issue is that corruption goes to the very top of politics, and that is why nothing is done about crime. They are themselves criminals. Maybe that is why they don't want us armed?

I think the point of the vagueness is that you're meant to put your own meaning behind it. What would drive you to execute your fellow Americans like in this movie? Like, everyone says "Oh I'll fight a tyrannical government!" but nobody is asking, for what reason would you fight? Be realistic, your not taking up arms because the federal reserve is being idiotic, your not taking up arms because the president can barely speak, so what would you actually drive you to take up arms like in the movie?

Same at the Battle of Wilsons Creek in Missouri in August 1861. Some Confederate forces still had blue uniforms while others had grey and marched into battle towards the Union forces at a key moment in the battle. Union commander in that area saw the blue uniforms marching towards his position and was hoping beyond hope that they were expected re-inforcements but knew that Union forces should not have been coming from that direction. Once he realized his mistake, it was too late, and the Confederate forces overwhelmed his position, thus losing the battle.

My fav parts are when the troops are split up and one of the machine gunners goes deaf, and the other part is when the hot rounds from a helicopter land inside a troops shirt and you watch him fumble for it. Scenes of troops who look godlike all kitted out and rolling in convoys. And then seeing how simple mistakes get men killed and having to wipe sweat and blood from your eyes.

That part about being distinguishable from your enemy is something that quite a few people surprisingly don't seem to get. Uniforms don't exist just to blend in, but ironically, to stand out. Thats one of the reasons its a war-crime for a armed combatant to either wear their enemies uniforms in an attempt to blend in with them, or just not wear one at all in an attempt to blend in with the civilian population. Either one is a warcrime because uniforms help with determining who is on what side, and who isn't on any side at all. Also, theoretically the statue of liberty could be a PHENOMENAL recon position. Who the hell would want to attack the statue of liberty after all?
@moritamikamikara3879
@moritamikamikara3879 2 ай бұрын
War crime. The statue of liberty is a piece of tangible cultural property. Using it for military purposes in any capacity is a war crime, because people don't want to die, so if you're spotting for mortars from the statue of liberty, people are gonna notice and not wanting to die WILL attack the statue of liberty. Same reason you're not supposed to use churches and mosques. If the enemy realises you're using it they WILL attack it.

Civil war is a representation of what the layman, as you say views war. Thing like logistics and identification in theater aren’t even thoughts in the back of their head because they’ll just know a helicopter pilot flying insanely low and shooting rockets at or below minimum safe distance despite a tank being right there of course. Well every time I image the secret service they’re just like super cops in suits and thats it, so obviously in the last stand they’ll wear suits. I think the thing that urks me the most in this movie is how non combatants and the like act. Life doesn’t grind to a halt the second war starts, yes life will change for everyone but not stop. Nurses and doctors still have patients, hospitals still need to run cities will still operate even on the front lines and this movie acts as though the feds are going city to city slaughtering everyone

One thing to note about coups and keeping the leader alive: anyone with understanding of modern doctrine would understand that keeping that leader alive is so important. The leaders of a movement like this would never issue a kill order because having even a kangaroo court trial and forcing the leader to formally renounce leadership goes a long way to securing power after the conflict is over. If the leader dies, diehard supporters all around the country might be more emboldened to rally around the martyred leader.

You'd have a point if, at any point, the movie really showed any sort of political attunement of either side, but both groups (federalist and rebels) get so little real characterization that you can't say the rebels are democrats and federalist are Republicans, or vice versa. The movie tries to make it out to be government totalitarianism without regard to motivations, which kinda just falls flat as "government bad" on its own. So basically, you can't apply real world political unrest because it just straight up doesn't apply in the movie.

And could you imagine being a sniper trying to make any accurate shot with a full grown man laying on your back. Glad I didn't pay to see this movie in the theater(thank you for taking one for the team!) I watched it at home this past weekend and that was probably the dumbest movie I have ever seen. I read all the hype surrounding it when it came out and local stories of women getting up and leaving the theater in tears, some well before the midway point. I would like to know at what part did they leave the movie and why. I came here to hopefully figure out if I missed something or was the movie just that poorly written/produced. Guys I loved the movie because it wasn’t supposed to be a combat movie, I love those too but the whole point of this was to show the horrors of war from the perspective of someone like any average Joe, not a combat vet. The closest you could get to that is a journalist. In pretty much every major war 90 percent of the “participants” don’t have guns they’re just bystanders. I feel like if he showed them with guns it would grossly change the meaning of the movie and hella take away from the strength of the message.

Both sides use Multicam in the movie due to its availability and usefulness for terrain. Tapes would be good as well, but the movie did avoid defining fighting sides intentionally, in terms of looks and wepons as well, to show how simular the sides of the conflict and that it is indeed the same faction which is fighting itself. To get into references again, you can check Ukraine again (both sides are using Multicam extencivly) and Yugoslav wars, where old JNA equipment, gear and fatiques were used by all sides.
