Btw the stories about how the anime flopped in japan are totally false. It’s a story started by the guy who ran the dub company that did this. The anime actually did fairly well in japan, but anime wasn’t mainstream in the US so very few people cared about dub quality. This guy who wrote the dub script had a history of making changes without permission, and the Japanese companies didn’t notice or care because the english audience was basically nonexistent. He made up the story about Ghost Stories flopping and getting permission to change things as a cover story for throwing out the script and going all out with edits for the hell of it. I am Japanese and watched this animation in real time as a child. At first, this anime was very popular in Japan and many children watched it. In fact, the ratings were good. There are various theories as to why it was terminated, but it is 100% impossible to say that it was not popular. Besides, there's no way I'm going to send an anime overseas that isn't popular in Japan. I saw the English version for the first time. I laughed at the difference from the Japanese version. But when they are on the air in Japan, they are afraid to go to school or cram school. The number of children who can't sleep at night by turning off the lights has increased so much. The English version was made into a comic It may be an act not to scare children like in Japan.

Ghost Stories did OK in Japan. ADV got it for basically free with something they wanted and the studio told them they could do pretty much whatever they wanted with it.

Honestly, it's getting annoying seeing him pretending to be offended at every single scene and making the same 'They Are Embryos' joke every 10 seconds, especially when he himself mainly makes offensive jokes. I hope he sees this and realizes that while it was a bit funny at first, it is not entertaining to see someone pretend to be horrified when most want to watch the reactor enjoy the scenes. This might be the only reaction I have seen where the reactor is not laughing at the jokes but instead jumping up and down shouting 'WHAT DID THEY JUST SAY', especially when they are not known for family-friendly jokes either.

The Show originally did not do well back in Japan, so when the dubbing team was picked for this, they were given three rules, relatively speaking: The overall story must remain relatively intact (the methods for exercising the ghosts). The Names could not be changed. The lip synch must be done correctly. Outside of that, they were told 'to do whatever it took to make the show a success'. This was the result, back in 2005. After that, the script writers and voice actors were given free reign to decide just about every other aspect of the show, so long as they remained within the limitations given to them. In fact, this became such a routine that the first person to enter the office and man the mic booth was given free reign to say whatever they wanted, thus making the others improvise around the first recording. The show became such a huge success, that the show was relabeled as 'dark humor'. Even the japanese seemed to enjoy it, thus sparking the prospect of continuing the series with the dub paving the way forward. Dunno what happened to the topic, but I imagine that every studio must be at least aware of the legacy of the Ghost Stories English Dub.

Long story short: Ghost Stories did anime didn’t do that well in Japan so when the dubbing studio got the license for the dud, they were told they could do whatever they wanted as long as the episodes (sorta) followed the plot and the characters name stayed the same The Voice actors would have bets that whoever arrived first to the studio could improvise the most and everybody else would have to go off from the improv.

Just watch the actual show, it's better than these 'funny moments' youtube videos make it seem. If you want to do a reaction video to just a single episode, I recommend 9th episode. the whole story behind this dub is that no popular dubbing studio was willing to pick this show up for a english dub and the show wasn't that fire either so what they did was give it to a new studio and basically said " weapons free " do whatever you want to every dub artist tried to one up each other my how much diabolical shit they can spew out of their mouth in the time of one episode while vaguely explaining the story and it fucking worked😂
